Following a decent late Dec date night nibbles at Washoe Public House, we sauntered over to RedRock Bar for an after-dinner drink. This place was DECKED OUT in it's holiday finest! This is a solid date night cocktail experience! The bartender was awesome, friendly and funny! AND...BONUS points for a regular patron's goodest boi bar dog!!! 10/10 would pet again. Bartender fashioned a one-of-a-kind festive cocktail out of thin air like Harry Potter! Actually, he ran next door to Old Granite St and got a wee bit of ice cream and whipped up a pumpkin pie martini that was to die for!!! This is the kinda place that you *wish* could be your regular bar. It's that cool, but relaxed. Great music, tasty drinks, and so much atmosphere. RedRock is a little hole in the wall bar with amazing expresso martinis. They actually have an expresso machine which makes such a difference. Our bartender was really sweet and attentive. Definitely recommend coming here after work for a couple of drinks especially since it wasn't too busy! read more

Came in here on a week night and it was the perfect place to hang out! Fully stocked bar, and the bartender was great. Downstairs there's a jukebox, darts, and two pool tables. This place has to be one of my absolute favorite places to have a couple cocktails with friends! It has a neat speakeasy style vibe with a handful of bar games to entertain you! It's a fairly quiet bar most of the week. But like anywhere else it picks up a bit of a crowd Friday and Saturday albeit still less crowded than some of the more well known bars. The liquor selection is pretty wide for it being a little bar tucked away next to the courthouse. They have Magners Irish cider on tap which is also a huge plus in my book! I believe there is only 3 or 4 bars I've even seen that carry it. The drink prices are very reasonable and usually come a bit more stuff than the average bar so watch out if you're a bit of a light weight! The owner is an awesome guy, he's from New Zealand and has the build of a rugby player and the class of Sinatra himself! He's always dapper and reciting hilarious movie quotes while slinging drinks and throwing in a few Rodney Dangerfield impressions to keep your sides hurting from laughing all night. As far as entertainment goes upstairs they just installed a shuffleboard table and the bartender is usually up for playing some dice if it's slow. Downstairs they have two pool tables, a jukebox and a steel topped dartboard. I love coming here to have a couple Irish mules and play some darts and shuffleboard! This is a nice dive bar located outside of the main stomping grounds in downtown Reno, so parking is usually easy. They have well kept pool tables, a juke box, and darts downstairs; and, they allow smoking down there as well if that's your thing. There isn't much of a beer selection, but there's plenty of spirits and cocktail choices to keep you busy. The friendliness of the staff is sometimes hit or miss, but when it's a good night, it's a lot of fun. The art and decor upstairs is very inviting and is a nice contrast to the more seedy underbelly. They have a small (maybe tiny) stage above the stairs, and I've been told that DJs will sometimes spin here, but I haven't had the opportunity to catch a show yet. This bar is also right next to Granite Street Eatery, so it's a great place to grab a drink after having dinner first. read more

Dive bar with a basement that has 2 pool tables. Was brought here with locals to grab some coffee and drinks in the late evening. Apparently best coffee in reno. They have an old school espresso machine and particular employee is the expert. Got a couple regular coffees and a couple Irish to help get over the post dinner slow down. Drinks were good and cheap. Nice little venue. A little south of the busiest parts of downtown. Really nice, gentle, lighting, but still wonderfully colorful. Some surrealist wall decorations add some character. The bartender was a little inattentive. It wasn't all that busy, but it took some time for him to see me and ask if I wanted something. On Wednesday when I was there I saw a great jazz band. They really went off and did some interesting things, quite a variety in tone, pace and style. The wall art is pretty impressive right now. There's this giant painting of a moundy Red Rock behind the bar. It has all of these diagrams that are like Da Vinci blueprints or architectural diagrams to make some strange, hypothetical, artificial mountain. Just for fun, to get to the bathroom, you have to sneak past the band, trying carefully not to bump them or knock anything over. The lighting was also very pleasant, a bit dim, but it highlights the wall art well along with the bright, tasteful colors of the bar itself. The drink selection was interesting. Some unusual flavored vodkas that I haven't ever seen along with some other eccentric top shelf type things to go along with old favorites and a typical range of beers, Pabst to Guiness and Sierra. The space is small, kind of one narrow, but deep room with a long bar on the left side, but if feels about right. When there's no music performance they have pool as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the bartender/presumed owner, but the place had so many other charms and good ambience that I still really enjoyed the place. read more

There's a basement with two pool tables and a jukebox with the bar upstairs. The group I was with was playing pool downstairs and the owner Reese came down to play some pool and chat with the patrons. Drinks are poured strong and are standard prices. Great little place located just south of busy downtown on Sierra St. While some people may complain that the bar is a little small, it's the small "homely" feel that gives it just the right atmosphere. Red Rock is not the typical jam-packed college "meat market" with guys in shiny shirts or popped collars. The bar itself is quaint, relaxed, and chill. Upstairs may be too dark for some, but this is what gives Red Rock it's great feel and vibe. The owner keeps an interesting collection of artwork on display throughout the year with an ever-changing line up of local artists and painters. Definitely worth dropping in to see the art! The downstairs area also features 2 pool tables, a dart board, and Internet Jukebox; a great place to hang with friends or make new ones. It can be a bit crowded when a live band is playing, but the downstairs does offer some respite from the cramped upstairs area. The bartenders are attentive, friendly, and make great drinks. Never over-priced and never watered down. I would argue that Red Rock has some of the most reasonably priced drinks in town, especially compared to the casinos. They also have some great beers on tap that you can't find in the big places. BOTTOM LINE: Stop in, have a drink, and see the art and support the local artists. read more

This is a fantastic little joint in downtown Reno. Reese (sp), a now local Kiwi bartender is totally awesomesauce. They have dj's in a little booth overlooking the top floor bar and pool tables and jukebox downstairs. Have a 'Bees Knees' when you go. You won't be disappointed. Also, Reese got a hold of some of the last kegs of a New Zealand beer called Steinlager left i the country. Get one (or 5) of those also. Great spot to kick it. read more

I've only seen the top, and it was tiny. Not in a bad way. They had live music the night I went in and I think about 15-20 people were in there (again in the top part) and most everyone could see the musicians (who were crammed up between some stairs and the ceiling). The ambiance was cool and I expect I will be suggesting future trips to this bar. At the very least I need to go downstairs and check out the pool tables. read more

Megan the bartender is a doll! The owner and staff seem to have a pulse and brain cells which is more then I can say for other bars. They use their pulse and brain cells too! Crazy,I know. The art on the walls is beautiful and ever changing. Clean bathroom up a set of stairs. After using the restroom you can do your catwalk back to the bar. Check it out you'll see what I mean. There is a downstairs with a pool table. Definitely a hidden hot spot! And every last Saturday of the month bump sound crew comes in and shakes the joint up. One of Reno's best gems! read more
