Everyone is split into two groups, and each group takes turns going down to the glass-bottom area to look at the fish for about 10-15 minutes. The ride was about 45 minutes. A couple of tips: use the restroom before the tour since there isn't one on the boat, and don't forget to bring a hat or cap, water, and plenty of sunscreen. Overall, it was a fun boat ride! Our captain was friendly, and we got to learn some local history while seeing Redondo Beach from the water. It was a scenic, relaxing, and memorable way to spend time out on the ocean.

He was a fantastic host, a fun sailing partner, and tons of help when it came to planning our adventure (as well as a great ninja-accomplice during my surprise engagement). I met my girl friend on a boat trip in the SF Bay, so I'd known for awhile that I wanted to ask her to marry me in the same place. Unfortunately for our planning purposes, we're currently living in Iowa while she finishes medical school. This meant just searching advertisements on Google, trying to find someone who would be a good fit for my plans-- a process that really wasn't working out. Everyone I talked to was inflexible about times and locations, or unhelpful about answering my questions, or bad about offering suggestions for planning (I can be a difficult customer. Sometimes I know exactly what I want and obsess over the details, sometimes I have no idea what I want and I'm looking for a little guidance). This all changed when a mutual friend recommended I call Geoff. He did a really great job at helping me figure out a plan that would fit our timeline (my fiance only had a few days off), our needs (not every boat is the right size or can handle an engagement), and our budget (did I mention I'm engaged to a student?). The Captain was really in tune with what we wanted on the trip. He was friendly, but not too invasive; let us help with the sailing when we wanted, or just relax; and picked out lots of beautiful places to sail to. He also arranged a little bit of food and champagne for us. Most amazingly, he was on hand to snap lots of photos, while still piloting the boat (many without my fiance even realizing)-- truly beautiful photos I know we'll treasure for years. All in all, we couldn't have asked for anything more. If you have any inkling that you might want to propose on a boat-- or even just have a nice time with someone special, you'd be in good hands with Alchemy Sailing Adventures.

The Alchemy is a gorgeous 36ft Sailboat, it was very comfortable for our party of 4 (plus Geoff & Emily), but can definitely comfortably accommodate additional numbers. Our group sailed for 4 hours from Redondo to Palos Verdes (swim/lunch break in PV) back up towards Manhattan Beach before we returned to the lovely King Harbor Marina (parking is very convenient!). I highly recommend going with Alchemy Sailing over the larger companies that operate out of Marina del Rey. The setting is much more picturesque sailing around the South Bay, and you're not stuck for an extended period navigating out of the labyrinth that is Marina del Rey. Plus you don't want to miss out on sailing with Geoff & Emily, they really made the experience very special and I can't wait to go again!

I have to…read moresay it's difficult for me to write this review as my family and I were very much looking forward to spending a beautiful day on the bait to celebrate my dads birthday. And all though we still made the best of it it really did not live up to what was promised and the amount of money we paid. So let's start with m: 1. The address did not match what was listed on their Yelp page and created a lot of confusion and frustration especially since we had kids with us. I had to text the owner, Mario, and he gave us another location to charter form which was not at all what was listed on their page. 2. Not sure if the captain of the day,Noah, was having a bad day or what but he was definitely not in the mood to greet us properly. He was very short, not so friendly and barely spoke to us during our ride. 3. The boat was not like the photos they presented or posted on Yelp. I even texted the owner and asked him to send me a few photos of what the boat will look like. It was definitely dirty, the coaches were so damaged and dirty they had black clothes over them. One of inside couches was wet, my uncle sat on it unknowingly making his pants wet and him uncomfortable for the rest of the ride. 4. The table surfaces were all damaged & chipped. We had to be careful for the kids not to get splinters when they would approach the table to grab something to eat. 5. Worst of it all was that we only watched cargo shipments for 2 hours!! On our phone call with Mario mentioned we can go through the canals and even get a far glimpse of the Queen Mary but we didn't. We even asked Noah to take us the other way around into the open water and he said no he needs to this way first (meaning by the cargo shipments). It was very disappointing since it was my dads actual birthday and the experience was completely robbed from us. It's very sad that we wasted over a thousand dollars and didn't receive what we had paid for. And I even texted Mario afterwards telling him our concerns but didn't get a reply back. Poor customer service.
