Geoff and Emily are the perfect sailing captains, guides, boat companions etc. They are so knowledgeable, fantastic conversationalists and just the loveliest people. The Alchemy is a gorgeous 36ft Sailboat, it was very comfortable for our party of 4 (plus Geoff & Emily), but can definitely comfortably accommodate additional numbers. Our group sailed for 4 hours from Redondo to Palos Verdes (swim/lunch break in PV) back up towards Manhattan Beach before we returned to the lovely King Harbor Marina (parking is very convenient!). I highly recommend going with Alchemy Sailing over the larger companies that operate out of Marina del Rey. The setting is much more picturesque sailing around the South Bay, and you're not stuck for an extended period navigating out of the labyrinth that is Marina del Rey. My husband and I had a large wedding planned out in San Francisco until COVID hit and cancelled everyone's wedding plans for 2020. We opted to change plans and host a micro wedding/elopement on Alchemy from the Redondo Beach Harbor, and we are so happy we did. Outstanding Surprise Engagement Sail! I recommend Alchemy Sailing Adventures to anyone considering getting engaged at sea! -- I really can't say enough about how great our experience with Geoff was at Alchemy Sailing Adventures. He was a fantastic host, a fun sailing partner, and tons of help when it came to planning our adventure (as well as a great ninja-accomplice during my surprise engagement). I met my girl friend on a boat trip in the SF Bay, so I'd known for awhile that I wanted to ask her to marry me in the same place. Unfortunately for our planning purposes, we're currently living in Iowa while she finishes medical school. This meant just searching advertisements on Google, trying to find someone who would be a good fit for my plans-- a process that really wasn't working out. Everyone I talked to was inflexible about times and locations, or unhelpful about answering my questions, or bad about offering suggestions for planning (I can be a difficult customer. Sometimes I know exactly what I want and obsess over the details, sometimes I have no idea what I want and I'm looking for a little guidance). This all changed when a mutual friend recommended I call Geoff. He did a really great job at helping me figure out a plan that would fit our timeline (my fiance only had a few days off), our needs (not every boat is the right size or can handle an engagement), and our budget (did I mention I'm engaged to a student?). The Captain was really in tune with what we wanted on the trip. He was friendly, but not too invasive; let us help with the sailing when we wanted, or just relax; and picked out lots of beautiful places to sail to. He also arranged a little bit of food and champagne for us. Most amazingly, he was on hand to snap lots of photos, while still piloting the boat (many without my fiance even realizing)-- truly beautiful photos I know we'll treasure for years. All in all, we couldn't have asked for anything more. My friends and I just went sailing with Geoff and the Alchemy for Memorial Day week-end, and let me just say this: I can't think of any way the experience could have been better!! Here are some reasons why: - The boat is incredibly beautiful, lots of wood work, the pictures are actually accurate, she is a beauty - The boat is really large and feels totally safe, can comfortably fit 7 people including Geoff - Equipement (wind jackets or safety jackets) is in great condition But Mainly: - Geoff is an amazing person, super laid back and knowledgable - He loves teaching and is very patient - He was very flexible in organizing our trip the way we wanted, I was actually organizing this for a friend's birthday and he let us plan the way we wanted, picked us up at the ferry building, etc ... - He knows the Bay area like no one - He is a great photographer and can send you the pictures - He is just really really good at what he does, which is sailing He really feels like one of those people who is passionate about what they do and want to ensure every body is having a wonderful time. He can do anything from night sailing, to romantic sunsets, to sporty fast sailing (which is more what we did), to intro to sailing, to advanced lessons, to week-end trips, etc ... He is the Best. Captain Geoff is not only an expert sailor who can safely handle the beautiful sailboat Alchemy in any situation, he is a very personable host who can accommodate all types of people and sailing needs. I have seen many charter boats in my couple years of being a sailing addict in the Bay, and I think Alchemy Sailing is by far the company with the most beautiful boat and the most likable captain. Captain Geoff is just who you want to take you out on the San Francisco Bay. He is highly experienced and is a true captain (spends many overnights at anchor, is a fisherman, cook etc.). His boat is just lovely and has the characteristics of what you would expect out of a novel. He is fun, safe, very friendly and is just a general all around really nice person. I am s/v Alchemy's previous owner! We sold her 4 years ago, most reluctantly, pending the arrival of our third child... (bit of a priority shift there!) It's simply thrilling to see the boat here, in excellent repair and being treated to such wonderful adventures. I can attest that Alchemy's full cutout keel and stout construction are perfectly suited to sailing in San Francisco Bay conditions. Strong tides and strong / variable winds; no problem -- yet she's somehow light on her feet too, a fun boat to sail. Her lines are classic; her teak interior is rich and warm; and I've never slept better, anywhere ever, than on that boat! Happy trails, Alchemy and Captain Geoff... and our family will definitely be booking a ride with Alchemy Sailing Adventures next time we make it back to the Bay Area! read more
