What a lovely experience! First, the owner Richard and his son provided impeccable communication with me. They called several times to confirm my appointment and to ensure I had the right directions. They are extremely friendly and inviting. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the father and son duo who informed us on what to expect on our boat ride. The gondola itself was beautifully decorated with flowers, soft cushions and lights which created a cozy and intimate atmosphere perfect for our romantic evening. They went above and beyond to make our gondola ride extra romantic. From the soft music playing in the background to the complimentary chocolates provided onboard, every detail was thoughtful and created a memorable experience for us as a couple. We rode around as the sun set. We even passed sea lions swimming around. Although we were warned ahead of time, one suggestion that I have for anyone thinking of booking, is to watch the weather and dress accordingly. As beautiful as it was, it got fairly cold. If you are looking for a friendly and reliable Gondola ride look no further! I booked Gondola Amore for my partner's birthday and loved every minute of it. We were both first timers and didn't know what to expect. Our gondolier Jake was lively, entertaining and sweet. We got the charcuterie package which could've been better, it was similar to an individual Italian ready pac salad. However it was inexpensive and just enough to snack on if you don't feel like packing your own treats. We took a bottle of wine (no corkage fee) which was nice. Parking was easy we parked where recommended by Gondola Amore right by their docking area (for free). All staff we encountered were friendly and professional. And our ride started on time. Don't listen to the low rating reviews! I was planning a proposal for my girlfriend. I wanted it to go smoothly and perfectly! I called Richard a couple of times before he picked up. Call a few times and maybe at different times until you can get in contact with him. I was gently guided through the process and all the options and I was very happy with the end result. He provided: roses, cider, perfect music, and chocolates. There are two packages: one basic without the extras and the one with the extras. Richard even checked in with me beforehand on the phone to see if I needed anything before arriving. Our gondola driver was excellent, polite, enthusiastic, helpful and a champion of a rower (1 hour ride). Quite the workout! The boat ride itself was so calm, pleasant, romantic, and unique. It was magical. We even had sea lions swimming alongside us while the sun was setting. It felt like a movie. The gondola man is farther back on the boat behind you while above a privacy canopy so you could freely chat and spend time with your partner without any concerns. My girlfriend was completely surprised and her dream Italian proposal came true. It was truly magical experience and one of the best days of my life. It was beautiful and unexpectedly worthwhile. My favorite thing about this place is that it's more of a mom and pop feel, not some huge company that doesn't care about your experience. Richard helped my boyfriend plan the romantic Christmas Eve boat ride and I couldn't be happier! There was champagne and strawberries, nice Italian music playing, candles lit around the boat, and beautiful roses and Christmas decor everywhere! Had a wonderful experience! Husband booked it for our 2nd anniversary! It does feel a little silly but once you're away from the dock & the sun is setting it is very romantic! We had the cheese and crackers with my fave - martinelli's - not a big fan of champagne. And a bouquet of red roses too! The music was nice background & Jake the gondolier was very nice and silent. So I call an older man answers the phone.. I asked if they have a Christmas lights gondola ride. I'm then told that they have gondola rides from from sunrise to sunset so I ask him if he has a Christmas ride. He tells me if the weather is clear then he will go out.. I ask him how much he costs he tells me oh it's very expensive but then proceed to tell me it cost a 100 it's a 100 it's about a $190. Absolutely perfect!!! Gentlemen, the awesome people in this company will work hard for you to impress the lady you want to impress. Take it from one who have had the Venetian canals gondola rides, this is as good without the stank of the Venetian one. My boyfriend worked together with them to give me he best proposal a girl could ever want. He surprised me halfway through our ride, I'm not giving away how since I would hate to spoil it for future couples. But let's just say after the proposal I like totally cry for a good 5 minutes -not the sweet girly sobs, but like hyperventilating sobs of happiness. I went here in 2011 for Valentines weekend. I have been wanting to do something like this and since my boyfriend and I were visiting LA we thought it would be a great idea. It is not the gondola ride you take in Italy, but it sure topped off our memorable moments. The boat was absolutely beautiful, and looked handcrafted just for them. We took the sunset gondola ride with the champagne package, which included chocolate treats, crackers, and grapes. They also suggested when going on your ride to take a camera with you (as your personal gondolier will take a few photos before leaving the dock), and to take a comfy blanket (it did) get a little nippy during that afternoon. By the time we took off, the gondolier also sang Italian and told us about the history. It was longer than most gondola rides, and as we rode along we got a few thumbs up from a few locals. A sure thing to do for valentines day or even for a proposal. Highly recommended for those hopeless romantics! read more

Although I'm sure this would've been nice, I didn't get the opportunity to book my ride. Richard, although I overlooked his inability to communicate effectively in the beginning, is also extremely rude & lacks customer service. I contacted him to book a ride on Friday 6/2. He confirmed me for Sunday 6/4. I leave him a message on his voicemail (because you can never get him on the phone) to confirm our ride for 6/4 and he tells me I have no reservation. What!!!? He gets loud and disrespectful with me advising me he needs a credit card & all this other information before I'm officially booked. How am I supposed to know what he needs to do his job? Last February we were in town for V-Day and so went searching for some fun to have while in the area. I found this by perusing Yelp and thought, "Well, this could be some cheesy fun." Reservations: I had to call a couple of times, but when I spoke on the phone with Richard it seemed all set up. Later on, I would receive a piece of mail confirming the reservation and then a phone call the week of. So, I felt better that we were set since I am so used to going through a website to reserve things. Finding it: Richard made this part a little more difficult than it had to be. Just use your maps app and you'll find it. It really is right across from the restaurant he gives you (I forget the name). Plus, once you realize the water is just a bit away from the parking lot, it isn't hard to find. Do give yourself extra time to drive, park, and walk. The gondola: The ride was both romantic and incredibly cheesy. The whole time people were calling out to us which, both made us feel: ridiculous, famous, and silly. The crackers, cheese, chocolates, champagne are not what you'd called particularly nice (they are all the cheap versions), so I would just bring my own if I were you booking now. It was a young guy who rowed for us; he seemed nice enough and strong. You boat your way through both of the little marinas area there and back, so it isn't a crazy interesting ride, but nice overall. Is it worth the price? Once to be super romantic. What is the best time? Sunset. Do you really need to bundle up? Bring layers, but they have blankets. Most importantly - have fun! *My husband said that the little boombox was actually played Spanish music instead of Italian. It should have been Italian music for the ambiance! read more

He was super helpful and upfront about how they accepted payment and gave great directions on how to find them in the harbor. I usually don't write reviews, but I thought I'd save someone from a similar experience. I called Richard and set up a time for a gondola ride, he seemed helpful, gave directions and told me items to bring. I specifically told him this was for a proposal event. He took my CC information and told me not to forget the ring. Fast forward to the day of the gondola ride and proposal...Richard calls me about 1.5 hours before the ride and cancels on me stating it's too windy. I went to Redondo beach anyway with my girlfriend to eat lunch... and there was no wind or breeze. Totally unacceptable especially because he knew this was for an proposal event. So if you're planning on proposing on this gondola, don't risk being cancelled on, otherwise have a backup plan. read more

I went on this with my girlfriend for her birthday. The phone service is OK, a little bit rude but other than that very helpful. The cost of the Gondola Amore boat ride by its self is $85 + gratuity. We got their unsure of where to go, they said in front of Delzanos restaurant (patio) but little did we know it was in the water. The ride, the setting was really nice and relaxing, we came in a day where their was no wind and not cold. I think the thing I liked the least was the appetizers provided by them, if I would of know it was ganna be so little and poorly displayed I would of taken my tray and my fruit and cheese. I received a gift certificate for this lovely gondola ride and was lucky enough to be able to make reservations within a few days of my call, so that I could get a fairly accurate weather prediction. It was a perfect, sunny, not-too-hot & not-too-chilly, wind-less afternoon which made for a relaxing, smooth experience. Our "champagne cruise" certificate included 2 small bottles of champagne, plastic cups (I was advised by phone that they'd be plastic and that I could bring my own glasses if I chose), shrimp & cocktail sauce, crackers, cheese, grapes, and dark chocolate Hershey's kisses. As Joan S. commented, heads do turn at the sight of the flower-bedecked gondola, so be prepared to attract attention from people strolling the boardwalk & docks as well as other passing boaters. The cd player added a nice touch, with appropriately romantic music. They lose a star for not including gratuity in the price of the gift certificate. Having never been on a gondola ride, nor knowing the cost of the experience, or of the *expected* gratuity, being followed down the dock and being advised of our "lack of gratuity" tarnished the experience. Seriously, consider changing your policy to avoid similar situations in the future. read more

Besides the fact that it was simply and beautifully God's Will that the day was going great, Gondola Amore made November 11th forever memorable and cherished for my girlfriend and me. She had no clue what I had planned for the evening, and her reaction alone as we walked down the harbor to this beautifully and eloquently lavished and decorated gondola was enough to make even the poorest man feel rich. I alone was so impressed with how great the boat looked; dimly lit lights around the edge and borders of the boat that reflected off the still water of the night and the many flowers decorating the boat. They definitely have the most comfortable, private, and romantic boat of the different services offered. bottom line...for 85$, you get a very memorable, romantic time with your Love. I suggest you bring a blanket for the two of you to snuggle up next to eachother in, a bottle of champagne (or martinelli for those young lovers under 21), and some high quality chocolates.
