We were met at the dock exactly on time; parking was easy; description of how to get to dock was perfect and our skipper, Dillon was exceptionally skilled and an experienced sailor. We felt comfortable the moment we got on the boat. We were fortunate to have a gorgeous day but I'm sure we would've enjoyed ourselves just as much had it been overcast. If you love being out on the water, you will enjoy a sail with South Bay Sailing

What a wonderful experience! Dylan was super nice and very accommodating with rescheduling due to the weather. It was our first time and we had such a fun time. We will never forget it!! Definitely need to go back

A certified instruction school for the American Sailing Association. I enrolled in the 8 lesson course to become certified and eventually get my Skippers license. The teachers were amazing and made the experience fun and fairly simple. By the end of the course you'll know the basics of sailing on a J80 vessel and have enough skill to rent or take your own boat out by yourself. The classes are held in fairly small groups or 1 on 1 on the open water. Education, adventure and entertainment in one. I can't really think of a better way to spend a weekend in the LA area.

The Alchemy is a gorgeous 36ft Sailboat, it was very comfortable for our party of 4 (plus Geoff & Emily), but can definitely comfortably accommodate additional numbers. Our group sailed for 4 hours from Redondo to Palos Verdes (swim/lunch break in PV) back up towards Manhattan Beach before we returned to the lovely King Harbor Marina (parking is very convenient!). I highly recommend going with Alchemy Sailing over the larger companies that operate out of Marina del Rey. The setting is much more picturesque sailing around the South Bay, and you're not stuck for an extended period navigating out of the labyrinth that is Marina del Rey. Plus you don't want to miss out on sailing with Geoff & Emily, they really made the experience very special and I can't wait to go again!

We got to enjoy a beautiful mid day sail towards PV and already planning my next one out to Catalina. He gave me a great heads up on wind conditions and the optimal time to go out. Super knowledgeable and great instructor if you're looking to learn things while "out at sea" (can I say that now?? I mean basically feel like a sailor now ).

I've spent a bunch of time on and under the water, years in fact, but always under motor power so this was an entirely new thing for me and I am shocked that I waited decades to learn the basics. We had a blast! Natasha, our captain and HSIC, (Head sailor in charge) was great with a simple step but step process combined with great attention attention to detail and focus that I so appreciate as a military instructor because its the little things that when learned well, make all the difference. I am pretty sure that we took off two years of her with our lack of mad skilz but she didn't say anything lol. If you're anything like me then you know how to sail, IN ONE DIRECTION LOL. Its getting turned back around and heading home that is a real challenge and even on this first time out we had a great understanding of how much there is to know but how basic the basics are given the time that we will now put into learning and practicing them. We are on our way back for our next lesson this next week and if I am not stranded on an island for seven seasons like Gilligan was then ill write another review. If you've thought about sailing then I highly suggest this company and Redondo location because of the way the harbor and inlet is built. Lots of space to sail around in before or after you get on the open ocean. Funny ive been a sailor for over 20 years in the Navy but never learned how to sail until last week. Bon Voyage!
