South Bay Sailing is a good spot in Los Angeles for boat sailing. It was fun with our own play Captain of the boat. Very stable and nice looking boats. Cost for 13 people is amazing. We had lots of fun just sailing over the Pacific. Nice view of the beach and city. We will do this again in the Summer coming up. read more

Unfortunately, our reason for hiring South Bay Sailing was not a pleasant one; My father had passed and we needed to scatter his ashes. We were initially going to hire a charter, but it was difficult to find a small one that serviced Redondo Beach and there were just two of us sending him on his way. After a bunch of calls, I reached out to J.C and everything changed. She told me we could do this on a sail boat and go out for 60-90 minutes. Even more than the price, we would be able to scatter his ashes exactly where he wanted. The weather was exceptional, our Captain was kind, and my father received a send off he would have been proud of; Laid to rest in the same area as my mother, a good pour of his favorite scotch, and an unplanned iPhone. (He was very into technology so I guess it was nice?) I am so thankful that South Bay Sailing was available, so kind, and made the experience more meaningful than I could have imagined. Drove for an hour to my ASA101 group class only to find out that the class was cancelled. To find this out I had to call South Bay Sailing when no one else was there to meet me at the time of the class. I was told that because I was the only one who booked, they cancelled the class. Supposedly they left me a voicemail earlier in the morning. I received no voicemails, phone calls or emails about the cancellation. The person I spoke with read out an incorrect phone number for me, citing that as the issue why they couldn't get a hold of me. I checked my emails with them, and the number I gave them was the correct one. Several issues beyond the obvious: 1) No communication stated that class could be cancelled if it is not full. If that was communicated upfront, I would have either made other choices or called in the day before to confirm the booking. 2)Even if it is true that they tried to leave me a voicemails a couple of hours before the class start, they would have known that the class was not full the day before and could have tried to reach me then, not the day of. By the way, the day before the class, I actually received an email reminder from them to show up to class. 3)Make sure to actually speak to the person you are cancelling on the day of, rather than make a feeble attempt without making sure your voicemail was received. 3) Had they actually reached out to me, I would have opted to pay extra to have a private class. I value my time, they should have valued mine. Overall, I don't know that I would want to be in deep waters with disorganized people, so I am grateful that my learning journey ended with them before starting. The one star is for being polite while wasting my time and promptly refunding me. read more

It was a very fun experience and they were both very warm and personable. It's been years since I've been sailing and it was so freeing... and I just had "adventure" and possibilities in my head. I give 5 stars to the actual sailing experience with Captain Dave. Dave was great, showing us a few skills and explaining the process. He also was just fun hanging out with and sharing his knowledge of the Redondo area. Highly recommend SB Sailing if you are looking for a boat outing in Redondo. I had to rate the reservation process 3 stars because I had to go to the harbor and ask onsite if my web reservation was in fact reserved. I did not get a phone call or email reply to my questions until I showed up in person, which I think should not have been necessary. read more

The teachers were amazing and made the experience fun and fairly simple. Had a special evening out on their J-80 with an expert skipper (David?). He effortlessly sailed us through the waves and kept the ride smooth. The reason I picked this company is location: They can take you the direction of Palos Verde peninsula which looks exceptionally beautiful from the water. We saw some dolphins & tons of pelicans. He was patient with me in trying to arrange the best situation for my family (of four) and even waited with me on the line as I tried to navigate the website to ensure I did it correctly. Great prices! Hard to reach during the day since they are out on the ocean, but leave a message and they will back in the afternoon or evening. We were able to schedule a one hour slot just two days ahead of time. Easy to find on the Redondo pier. Our captain Allie was super nice and even let our son direct us back. This option was way cheaper and more convenient than others that we looked into, and we already thinking about another trip.
