We drove two hours in Friday primetime traffic just to do this sunset tour with Glass Bottom Boat and it was so worth it. Our group was 4 adults, 4 kids, and our dog and everyone had a blast. I had done one of those regular glass bottom boats before and it was honestly boring. This one is way different. The boat has two levels. You start on the top deck cruising King Harbor where you get to see sea lions, and then go downstairs into this cozy underwater room with huge windows on both sides. You can sit right next to the glass and watch fish swim by like you're in a tiny underwater aquarium Captain Erik was amazing. He was hilarious, super interactive, and thoughtful. He noticed when one of my friends didn't have a jacket and made sure she wasn't too cold, let the kids try on the captain's hat, and somehow made everyone on board, including a few strangers, feel included. The sunset was beautiful, the ride was smooth and easy for kids and dogs, and it was way better than we expected. If you're in the South Bay and think you know what a glass bottom tour is, this one will surprise you. I get TERRIBLE seasickness and I did not feel sick for a second! Came here tonight with some friends for a tour. Didn't know what to expect but it was a pretty cool tour with a great guide and sites to see like underwater fish and sea lions sunbathing. Not too big of a boat. Underneath it can be a tad tight with 8 people but still cool experience. Plenty of fish to see. No waves, no sea sickness or issues. There is no bathroom on board so make sure you go before boarding. If you go in the late afternoon you can get some really cool pictures on the boat. We took like 100 pics. Glass Bottom Boat Company is awesome. We had a fantastic experience with the pedal boats as a Cub Scout activity. Captain Jake helped the scouts work through one of our badges (pedal craft safety). He was kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. He kept the kids engaged while covering requirements, water safety, and life jacket basics. He also supported a cleanup where the scouts collected trash in the harbor, which made the outing both fun and educational. He was wonderfully accommodating and great with the kids. Highly recommend. My coworkers and I came to do a glass bottom boat tour as our team-building activity for the quarter...and we had a blast! Scout, the captain, was so nice and shared a ton of rich history about the Redondo Beach Pier. I agree with other reviews that the glass bottom isn't your typical glass bottom boat, however this one was so much better as we were really able to see the sealife underwater. Parking is in a nearby lot for about $2/hr, and there are plenty of cool restaurants nearby worth checking out. read more

The good: I went on this boat for my birthday with my 2 toddlers (youngest one just turned 2). It was great for them because it's only a 45 minute ride. Our boat driver/tour guide was Scout and he was laid back. We saw 3 types of fish, pelicans, tons of sea lions (there's a dock area they sunbathe at), and seagulls. The tour guide threw in a few jokes that were fun. Our boat had around 20 (?) people. You split into 2 groups to go to the bottom to view the fish. Kids have to wear life jackets. They asked for kid volunteers to steer the boat which I thought was cute. The bad: Parking isn't free but there's a big lot which made it easy to find parking. The interesting: The glass bottom aspect of the boat wasn't as I expected. I thought it would be a floor that looked like glass and we'd just see whatever we passed. Instead, there's a lower floor part of the boat with a window made of glass. They throw food into the boat and fish swarm by to eat the food so you can see the different fish (about 3 varieties we saw). read more

Redondo Glass Bottom Boat is just the best for kids and families. You will have the best time, in beautiful Redondo Beach and the kind staff that runs Glass Bottom Boat. You can find them simply by going to their website. I do not suggest you use some discount website like Groupon, because the website has the same prices and it is so easy to book, where on some other sites, it is just a pain. You end up at their website anyway because you have to register. It is so easy to do. I also called, but that is because I am always confused. They were so nice to me and I was registered in minutes. I think they go a few times a day but we went in the afternoon and it was just so wonderful. It is not so easy to find, so follow the directions. Once there is it is easy to park and the Redondo Beach Pier is very close. Once parked just walk up to the nice people right at the boat (it is a kiosk) and they will get you on and they leave on time, there is not a lot of waiting at all. The boat itself is super cute and not too big. They don't over crowd it so everyone has a chance to see well. The boat is an adorable red. The bottom is not really where the glass is. It is to the side, each side of the boat. This way you don't have to stand and try to get around other people's feet. There is enough seating for everyone and they are very ADA friendly. The service is just great. At the kiosk they are very friendly and the staff on board are great. We just loved our Captain. He was kind to the kids and informed us of a lot of cool things to see. There is not only fish to see through the glass they also take you to where the California Sea Lions hang out. They have a space made for them in the ocean and there are hundreds of them. The sound is so calming, at least for me. They are so cute, I so want to pet them, but of course you don't get right on top of them and bite you would get. They are just so darn cute. Seagulls are nearby and other beautiful birds that love Redondo Beach. Getting off the boat is easy and then you can walk to the pier for more fun. It is the best time and a must for tourists. This is such a hidden gem in Redondo! It's a beautiful way to see the harbor, learn about the Redondo history, check out the sea lions and of course, see so many underwater creatures! I discovered Glass Bottom Boat on Groupon and thought it was a unique and potentially romantic experience. My boyfriend is a good sport about getting dragged to random places I want to check out. The business will send you an email on parking, or you can refer to my review of the Redondo Beach Pier. Once on the pier, they are located on the boardwalk side near King Harbor Brewing Co. I thought it was relatively easy to find. Reservation recommended, but they also allow walk-ins. Check in 10 min prior to your departure time. You should probably use the restroom prior. General Pricing: $24/adult (18-64) $18/teens (13-17), seniors (65+) and active military $12/children (0-12) Captain Jake was really welcoming and tries to ensure a positive user experience, however there are things beyond his control. Our fairly full boat had a family of 4 with 2 well behaved kids, a family of 3 with a MONSTER CHILD, and 2 couples. That monster child was just crying, screaming, climbing, bumping into people, ABSOLUTELY MONSTER. I appreciate that Captain Jake was making attempts to sooth the child, and separated the families and the couples for the glass bottom portion, but that child really killed my personal experience. I would pay a buttload more money for a children free tour. I'm not letting that affect my review since it's not the business's fault but THE HORROR! Captain Jake did a great job telling us fun facts about the Redondo Beach pier and the features from the boat. He made PUNNY JOKES throughout the tour. Also he was super great and interactive with the kids. All of the kids had the opportunity to be the Captain an steer the boat around safely with Captain Jake managing the engine control portion. The well behaved children were super cute and enjoyed the experience. The monster child's parents opted out. My only criticism of the experience is that the Glass Bottom portion that I expected from the experience was extremely brief. We were broken into 2 groups and each group had about 5 minutes on the bottom. I could use less over the above the ship random tour and more time on the bottom. My favorite parts of the 45 minute experience was the 10 minutes where the groups were separated. The families went down to the bottom first. Some minor climbing needed so wear sensible shoes. The quiet and peaceful waves was so enjoyable. From above Captain Jake was sprinkling down bait to attract the fishy for the folks at the bottom of the boat, but from atop you can also see the fish gather. Then when it was our turn to go down it was such a cool experience. Wildlife is so much more vibrant and stunning than anything you see at the aquariums. There was a guide of what you'll probably see above the glass and we definitely saw plenty of top smelt, barred sand bass, calico bass, the beautiful opealeye perch and a few garibaldi fishes. Then it was back to shore. Definitely a unique experience I don't see at any of the other beaches/piers in the area. If I were to come back I think I want to rent the whole boat for a time slow (19 people max) to ensure a more quality experience. Maybe a family outing or a group of friends outing where I have enough folks to reserve a whole time slot to avoid children. read more

We now live in Redondo Beach and so glad that we were able to check out the glass bottom boat adventure! We got the $13/person groupon deal (normally $24) for the 45 min tour. It was much more than I expected, from the history of the Harbor and area to seeing all the underwater species. The highlight was seeing all the sea lions up close along with the vast smelt and bass fishies! The captain does a wonderful job narrating, while getting epic views of all the sea life. He was humorous and wonderful with the kiddos. Did not get seasick, as the waters are very calm in the harbor. The space down to the looking glass area is steep, make sure you face the ladder as you descend down. Def recommend this fun adventure while out on the Pier. Don't forget to tip your captain for the ride! read more

Captain Jake is informative about local wildlife and occasionally cracks silly jokes during the mini-adventure. The boat was also very clean and looked well-kept. We went to the latest ride and the sun was really blinding at some point so don't be like me and remember to bring your sunglasses!!! My favorite part of the boat ride was the sea lions and one of my friends liked the pelican-decorated rocks(if ya know what I mean). The fish viewing at the bottom of the boat was really fun too though, there were many kinds of fish and we didn't expect to see stingrays! I also thought it was so sweet of the captain to let all the kids and young teens steer the boat for a bit with a captain's hat, what a cute memory and photo opportunity for them! Whether or not you find a deal online(actually might be cheaper on-site than online depending on the deal) or the regular price for this boat, I think the price is very fair and worth it. My husband and I had a great time on Glass Bottom Boat Tour. All the staff was very helpful, and caring. The captain informed us of many different things such as the early days of the Redondo Beach Harber, when it was made, and rebuilt due to many strong storms that have ripped the harbor apart. We saw Sea Lions and one that had been tattooed due to being aggressive, and the California Sea Lion Center had to mark it, to watch it to make sure it would not hurt people again. We saw lots and lots, and lots of fish. It made us hungry. LOL! We were able to get close enough to see some Sting Rays, also. So much to see and learn about. We had a great time, and recommend the trip to families, friends, and anyone that wants to have a fun day out to see a bit of nature under the sea. We came to the beach 2 hours early to take our time finding parking, walked around to see where this place was, and boarded 10min early after 5min of checking in since there was some internet connectivity issue going on due to the crowds of festival going on at the same time. This was for the last ride of the day at 6:30pm for Sunset and at first, there was only 6 of us, but they lagged departure by 10min to take 4 more stragglers coming in. My bf and I were the first to sit next to where we were supposed to go down to the glass bottom section. However, the captain had us go around him to see the seals (he didn't need to drive so close to them to disturb them that they all got scared and went to the opposite side of us). Also, his offer made us go last instead to go to the glass bottom section in the second group with the 2 other couples that joined us last minute. I was annoyed that they were able to get the best view to sit by the window when my bf and I waited a while to experience it and ended up having to sit behind them to see all the fishes gather by their window (since it was where the captain was sitting and able to feed those fishes). However, overall, it was still a cool experience seeing all the creatures at the bottom of the sea and all around the ocean. I felt like I also learned a lot of good history and fun facts about all the things around us. read more
