I've used redi-box twice now. The first time was great with no issues, the second time was not. There were a lot of small things that really added up to a mediocre (borderline bad) experience. I added on packing paper to the order 3 days after placing it. 1) When the order arrived I found a bug in the bubble wrap. 2) I was asked to delay my pickup date, which I did even though tiny apartments in Chicago don't leave much room for storing large plastic tubs and it really messed with my ability to properly move in and decorate. 3) On pickup day the driver didn't want to take the elevator upstairs to pickup the boxes so I had to bring them down to the ground floor myself. On their website picking up boxes is included in the price. There were no stairs for him to navigate at all so there really wasn't an excuse for this. 4) A month after placing (and being charged for) my order I received a receipt for an additional charge. I called multiple times to figure out what the charge was for but no one ever answered the phone. I even responded to the text they sent but received no response. I did some math to figure out it was for the packing paper that I guess they forgot to charge for. This last issue is what really made me write this review. To go around charging people's card and not telling them what for is crazy. Not a horrible experience but I'll probably try another company next time. read more

My husband & I decided to move from West Loop out to Wheaton....these guys are amazing! We hired our movers and after seeing the packing fee of about $400, we decided "yeah...we can pack our one bedroom by ourselves." The Saturday before our move Bobby met us in the loading dock and gave us the boxes in just a few short minutes. Moving made easier!!!!! I have a couple of friends who have used Redi Box so I decided to give it a try. Starting with when I ordered them online their customer service has been remarkable. The week of the delivery they sent me an email confirmation but I also got a text reminder the day before. On the delivery date I was flying home from a work trip and had a change of plans. I emailed Redi Box to try and change the delivery time. They promptly emailed me back that they would try to accommodate these changes. I really appreciate them going over and above the call of duty to accommodate last minute delivery changes! Called Green boxes and they don't drop off boxes in the suburbs (Lake Bluff) but Redi-Box was more than willing too (for $29 extra fee). The delivery man dropped it on time and helped my bring it up the stairs. Each box to rent is roughly $5. Redi boxes dimensions are 27 × 17 × 12 and the equivalent size paper box at Home Depot is 18 × 18 × 16. They both have a volume of roughly 5250 cubic inches. The home depot box costs $1.21 each. So yeah, it's cheaper to buy Home Depot boxes, but Redi-Boxes are great for fragile items and it's stack-ability. We had 30 redi-boxes and combination 10-15 paper boxes. We put mostly clothes in paper boxes and everything else in redi-boxes. From a moving perspective, a flat dolly can hold 4-5 paper boxes (too many and the bottom boxes will collapse) while 8 redi-boxes on same dolly. So moving time is cut in half = save money from paying movers. I also needed to return the boxes a couple days sooner and Redi-Box had no problems picking them up. Best moving decision I made. So redi-box costs more than scrounging cardboard boxes, that's true. BUT IT IS 100% WORTH IT. 1. Order boxes. They have a handy guide on the website where you can estimate the package you need based on the size of yr place. I did the 1-br/30 box plan which was almost enough for my 1-br. I have a lot of crap tho. 2. You arrange a window for box drop off and pickup. Both times the redi-box guy came within the time window I scheduled, called about 15 minutes before he showed up, then called again when he arrived. 3. They bring the boxes to you and if you live on the 3rd floor, as I did, they bring them all the way into your apartment. The boxes were clean when they arrived, no debris from the last mover. 4. The boxes are sturdy and uniform so you can stack everything; pretty big too so almost all normal stuff will fit in there. My huge stock pot that I use for canning fit easily stacked along with several other of my larger pans, for example. 5. They have holes so you can cable tie the boxes shut and redi-box provides labels that peel off really easily when you're done. 6. Having uniform boxes, while they were a bit heavy because they were so big, was awesome for my movers. Everything fit really nicely in the truck and was super easy to move in. 7. You rent the boxes for 2 weeks, which is just enough time to force you to be efficient about packing & unpacking without making you feel crazy. 8. They pick them up again! No trips to the dumpster, no trying to give away your crappy torn and tape-covered cardboard boxes. A++ will definitely use this again. This service allows you to avoid getting nickel and dimed by moving companies charging you for boxes and tape, and since they are reusable it's environmentally friendly too. Recommendation to future customers: order more than you think you will need - the boxes fill up fast with random things you don't think about like comforters and pillows. Recommendation for Redi-Box: different sized containers could be very useful, but would likely require multiple trips from the delivery truck to the unit and vice versa. Boxes that could replace the cardboard equivalent of a dish pack and a wardrobe box would make an already excellent service perfect! I found Redi-Box via Google when searching for moving boxes on the fly. I had to move quickly (about a month before originally planned because my new apartment was ready faster than predicted). Instead of spending $60-80 on a variety of traditional cardboard moving boxes, I opted for the red, reusable plastic totes from Redi-Box (pre-tax cost was a very reasonable $99 for 20 Redi-Boxes). Although I placed my order on Friday, Redi-Box was still able to deliver it the next morning (delivery and pick-up two weeks later are included in the up-front cost). The driver was a little late dropping off the totes, but I didn't mind because a) I was home packing and b) he let me know well in advance that he might be late and also kept in contact with me until delivery. I needed more than the two weeks included in the cost of the package I purchased, so I took advantage of the social media promo to get an extra week for free. Everyone I dealt with at Redi-Box was beyond delightful! Moving is stressful and everyone at Redi-Box is well aware of this and they make sure to curate their customer service with this key fact in mind. The totes themselves were FAR more useful than cardboard boxes - they held more (beware of the almost-unliftable Redi-Box lol!), are more durable and, with the Redi-Wheels (DO NOT FORGET TO ORDER THIS! You - and your back and your floors - will thank me later!!) made the entire move so much faster and easier! My only regret is that I didn't order more than the standard 20 boxes. We are halfway through our first move using Redi-box. I am beyond pleased. My only negative is that I chose too small a package. I have cardboard boxes to make up the difference but opted to make a couple trips to unload and unpack a few Redi-boxes so I could reload them. The delivery guy was incredibly nice and despite having to walk up and down 3 flights of stairs on a 90 degree day, he didn't complain or show any signs of negativity at all. All of the boxes stack so nicely. My only request was that they make the handles a little less sharp- when carrying them, they dug into our hands. Also- you can't over pack the boxes- otherwise they don't stack. When it came time to return the boxes, it helped to have a date for a goal to unpack. Great motivation! I accidentally found Redi-Box while trying to find a good Chicago-based moving company with no shady reviews (not an easy task, btw). Anyway it grabbed my attention so I went ahead and ordered these for our move. For an overstuffed 1 br. apartment, I went with 30 bins. Well it worked out perfectly. We packed so much into these bins - far more than you'd think when looking at pictures of them. You can stack them as high as you want without worrying about them falling apart. When the movers came, all they had to take was furniture and bins. The delivery & pickup guy was efficient and friendly, calling ahead of time and hitting the exact window the site provided for delivery and pickup.
