Very cool and charactered resturant with a old car and Elvis decor…read more Went there to try the semi famous onion rings. Whew was amazing. Service was super friendly and quick. I tried the Chicken fried Chicken. I had no idea the size of the servings. The side dishes were very good. I couldnt finish all of what I ordered. The ranch dressing for the onion rings was very good

What follows is why I will NEVER STEP FOOT IN ANTOHER FREEWAY CAFE AGAIN. A few weeks ago, I went in and sat at a table. I watched two other tables of people (one couple another two tables) come in after me. Both got served water and I menus as still waited. I waited still as the waitress came and took an order at one of the tables....still no water, still no menu. I decided I may be invisible, so I got up and walked out. I didn't storm out, just walked out. As I did, the waitresses, literally loitering behind the counter (it was not a busy day) said, "oh, she's leaving". Fast forward to today, we decided to order a late breakfast in. I thought I would give them another chance, maybe it was an off day. Not the case. I went in to get my food from the counter. I waited while the waitress helped someone ahead of me. She asked my name and I told her and she said they were working on it. She went and got two food cartons and put them down in front of me and told me the total. We had ordered an extra side which was not there and I let her know (in an even tone). She barked back at me that she wasn't done. The man next to me looked bewildered. I began to tell the man about my last experience and the waitress interrupted our conversation and basically told me to shut-up. I was stunned. Additionally, the food has gone downhill. I will never set foot in any Freeway Cafe again. I was trying to support local; but there are plenty of better local eateries. I don't know why the atmosphere at this place has changed, but the tension is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Good riddance, Freeway Cafe.

Apple Barrel Cafe

Apple Barrel Cafe

The Apple Barrel Cafe is proving itself as a better restaurant than most comparable restaurants…read more A lot of the food is "homemade" (made in house) including some sauces like the ranch dressing and tartar sauce. They are definitely not just phoning it in. The result is better food than most. I definitely recommend Apple Barrel Cafe for some good diner style food with excellent food. The catfish I had this visit was delicious and flaky. The hush puppies were sweet tender. Even the green beans were excellent. They were tender but not the least bit mushy with good flavor. I couldn't ask for a better green bean. The onion rings were excellent. Weakest offering was the French fries but they were fine. I would rate the fries as average. This is only notable because the rest of the meal was above average. The ambience was clean and comfortable with a local radio station playing seasonal music as a background muse. It will no doubt be a regular part of our eating out. My wife (an Italian heritage woman) loved her spaghetti sauce and said her meatballs were delicious. I tasted them and agreed. I definitely recommend the Apple Barrel Cafe.

Did I just get served powered eggs and powdered gravy? Sorry, but I was not impressed. There was…read morevirtually no flavor in any of the breakfast that I had. The portions were big. The service was very nice. Pleasant and efficient. They charge a 99 cent convenience fee, whatever that means. I won't need to return.
