Best omelets!! I get the veggie omelette, but I swap the egg whites for whole eggs. To me it's tastier. They have all kinds of homemade meals. Servers are great! I am the person who overtips, doesn't send back food that is still edible but perhaps not to my order specifications, and I am always polite to waitstaff. What follows is why I will NEVER STEP FOOT IN ANTOHER FREEWAY CAFE AGAIN. A few weeks ago, I went in and sat at a table. I watched two other tables of people (one couple another two tables) come in after me. Both got served water and I menus as still waited. I waited still as the waitress came and took an order at one of the tables....still no water, still no menu. I decided I may be invisible, so I got up and walked out. I didn't storm out, just walked out. As I did, the waitresses, literally loitering behind the counter (it was not a busy day) said, "oh, she's leaving". Fast forward to today, we decided to order a late breakfast in. I thought I would give them another chance, maybe it was an off day. Not the case. I went in to get my food from the counter. I waited while the waitress helped someone ahead of me. She asked my name and I told her and she said they were working on it. She went and got two food cartons and put them down in front of me and told me the total. We had ordered an extra side which was not there and I let her know (in an even tone). She barked back at me that she wasn't done. The man next to me looked bewildered. I began to tell the man about my last experience and the waitress interrupted our conversation and basically told me to shut-up. I was stunned. Additionally, the food has gone downhill. I will never set foot in any Freeway Cafe again. I was trying to support local; but there are plenty of better local eateries. Where to begin? I came here for breakfast after finding them online. First, I ordered a hot tea. It came with a side of hot water. Tea bags are single use. A side of hot water is a waste of hot water unless it comes with another tea bag. And they didn't give me cream (or ask if I would like any). Even if the wait staff don't drink tea, they should know how to serve it. I ordered the smokehouse combo breakfast, which is two eggs, hash browns, pancakes and two smoked sausages. I'll attach a photo of what I got. Everything but the smoked sausage. It was a spicy hotdog, and it was one, not two. Slicing it down the center and spreading it out does not make it two. It was still only one. Very disappointing breakfast. I was torn between rating this as two stars or one but I finally settled on one. It's really not a good restaurant. They don't give you what they claim and from the receipt, they don't charge properly either. I never ordered an iced tea, but that's what they charged me for. A simple mistake or dishonest? Great food in a no fuss setting. If you're looking for fancy, this isn't the place, but it's a reliable experience dinner experience. Our waitress was awesome! My coffee was never left unfilled and my husband's hashbrowns came out extra crispy like he had asked. The sausage "link" was a jalapeño cheese sausage and amazing, The pancake was huge and homemade for sure. Everything is reasonably priced as well. $29 for two meals and coffee. We had just hit the flea market and a vendor has raved to us about this place and the quantity of food they served so we went to check it out. Driving up, other than the new sign, first impression is a former Mexican cantina style restaurant based on the arched window treatments, clean and freshly painted, definitely cared for....but then step inside.....and you are greeted by cases of model cars, a kitchen bar area lined with polished metal reminiscent of a 50s diner, and other automobile memorabilia. It may have been a Mexican cafe at one time, but no more!! Momma ordered the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and corn and a salad, I ordered liver and onions, mashed potatoes and okra and a salad (yes, I am part of that exclusive but often shunned group who actually love liver and onions!) Our food came out fresh, hot, and met all expectations of what a good cafe would serve, plus a large soft dinner roll with whipped butter. Portions were definitely generous! If you left hungry, it's your own fault! Momma's chicken fry was huge and she had to take half home...oh no! (There is nothing worse than having to enjoy food a second time!!!) This is not fancy gourmet food with exotic flavors...this is good, fresh cafe "comfort" food cooked to order in ample portions, and at very good value! Most entrees were under $10 (chicken fry was $10.99) a bottomless drink was $2.25 and they offer a drink to go when you leave. BONUS: They serve breakfast all day!! it's always a plus when you serve breakfast all day. i got the new york cheesecake pancakes. the menu states that there are 4 pancakes, i beg to differ. i promise you that either they gave me 5 or 6, or the pancakes were THAT huge. for some reason i thought the cheesecake pieces would be toppings, not at all, they were definitely mixed-in. very rich, the taste wasn't overbearing. i made sure to order some hash browns to balance out the sweet & savory. i was nowhere near finished as i got full, so if you're stomach is touching your back, this place is for you. the service was good/consistent. the host checked on the party often & the server was just as consistent. the place had the diner look & feel. i caught them right before they closed, be sure to come at least around 8 if you want to sit down (it was around 8:30 when i was there not knowing they closed at 9). the food didn't take long to come out as well, all-around good experience. outside of the breakfast, they soups, burgers, sandwiches & things of that nature. the breakfast selections seem endless. read more

Haven't been here in a while so we Went here today for breakfast and lunch. I used to really enjoy it but the food quality has diminished. I got steak an eggs and they steak was salty and rubbery. My eggs were cold and when I Told the waitress she appeared irritated and then brings me back the same plate and the Eggs were dry. It was obvious they put it in the microwave. Also toast came with my meal and it was not brought to me until I mentioned it was missing. It's my first time coming here and I'm definitely going to be back! The menu had so many options and everything sounded so good! For &10.99, I got the chicken fried steak, which also comes with your choose of soup or salad, and 2 other sides with a roll with butter. I chose chili, mashed potatoes, and corn for my sides. The chicken fried steak was huge! It was so crispy as delicious with the gravy. It was so worth the price for everything that it came with! Quaint diner, with the "cliche" diner feel. The decor is nice, and with the amount of seniors, we knew the place must be a bargain. We received our drinks from a very young waitress, who didn't fully understand what we wanted, so she got it wrong. Because of her very pleasant demeanor (and the fact another waitress went to get what was missing immediately), it didn't bother us. I ordered the Smokehouse Combo (smoked sausage, 2 eggs, hash browns, and 2 buttermilk pancakes), but had a special request to change my pancakes to the NY Cheesecake Pancakes. The waitress smiled, and said "I think we might be able to accommodate you dear", then took my wifes order. She ordered the Belgian Waffles with ham and eggs, as well as a side of the biscuits and gravy. Some of our food arrived after about 10 minutes, the waitress giving us an update that our 'special order' was on the way. About a minute later, she brought our stuff. The food was wonderful, though it could have been a little warmer. The pancakes were tasty, not at all overbearing. The waffle was fluffy, yet crispy...cooked just right. As we were waiting for our food, two other folks came in, and the gentleman wanted grits with shrimp(?). While the waitress was taken aback, she was VERY accommodating and willing to hook him up. She brought his grits, shimp sauteed how he wanted it, and brought extra dishes for him to mix his concoction how he wanted. I'm giving this location specifically a 1 star. The ambiance is that of an average diner. One afternoon my family and I attempted to patron this location. Make note that the place was not busy, you could count how many people were in there. It took the waiter over 10 min to bring the drinks. The food was very bland and unsatisfying to eat. I ordered a chicken sandwich which I almost always like. It barely had any dressings applied and the chicken was dry. One of the kids ordered spaghetti which looked like it had been sitting. The only good and fresh thing was the breakfast food. My man ordered a Philly cheese steak that was extremely dry. He told the waiter he didn't want it as it wasn't to his expectations. Trust me if you eat Philly cheesesteaks this one would be bottom of the barrel. A man who looked to be Middle Eastern claimed to be the owner came to the table with frustration and a horrible attitude because we were not pleased with our food. He would not allow us to order something that we would like. In fact he disrespectfully told us to pay for the Philly cheesesteak that was ordered or we had to leave. It turned into an argument and he told us he would call the police after his misconduct and mistreatment to us. A part of me would like to say it was a bit racist, but I'll never know for sure. I will never patron this location again and if I find out they all have the same owners I will spread the word to my family and friends to never patron them again. read more

Had this place on my bookmarked list, so when we were looking for a place to grab a bite before a show, we decided to give it a try. We've known about this place for a long time, but for whatever reason just hadn't been in. Arrived around 5pm on a Sunday night to a medium sized crowd. We were seated immediately by a friendly, if somewhat linguistically challenged hostess. After taking a few minutes to review the menu, it seemed we both opted for safe choices, as the wife had the roast beef, and I went with the chicken fried steak. Based on photos posted by others on Yelp! we also selected the onion rings for a pre-dining appetizer. While it was all good, those onion rings were the standout. I could sit down to a plate of those and be quite happy. One of my sides was a small salad, which arrived almost immediately after ordering. It was a good, if routine side salad. A hot minute later the onion rings arrived, and they were awesome. These should be the standard by which all other onion rings are measured. As I mentioned earlier, I could easily sit down to a plate of these and a glass of tea and be a happy camper. So we noshed for a few minutes on these while waiting for our entrees, which arrived in an appreciably short time. Wife's roast beef was very tasty and well seasoned. Tender, and as juicy as you can expect a well cooked roast beef to be. There seemed to be a little contention over the mashed potatos, as I maintained they were the real deal, and the wife was pretty set on their being instant. Either way, they were good. We both had the green beans as a side, and they were also good, with a nice trace of bacon in the flavor and a very real 'feel' of having had some bacon cooked with them. They were maybe a tad firmer than I would like for slow cooked green beans, but they were definitely tasty and good. On to my chicken fry. Again, if you've read my reviews, you know I'm a CFS kinda guy, and I use that as a litmus test for almost any diner. If you can't do a CFS right, there's probably not a lot that you can get right. Mine was overly generous in size, without being too much for a meal. At first glance I feared it was another of the 'pounded so thin it only had one side' variety, but that wasn't the case. One end of the steak was pretty thin, to the point that there was actually no meat, only breading for an inch or so. Not a deal breaker, but something that were I the cook, I'd work on, as it goes to consistency of the product. Once past that edge, the meat was substantially thicker, probably in the 1/4" thick range, which is a good starting point. Really, any thicker and its hard to keep it tender. Overall, the CFS had a good flavor, was well breaded without being overly so, and was a good sized portion. The cream gravy was the right consistency, and served generously. No dessert, as we were on a schedule and needed to depart for our show, but I'm sure they would have been as good as the entree. Service was fast and attentive, and very friendly. Our server kept the tea glass topped off, and kept checking on us without being intrusive. Overall, I give Freeway a 3.5, even though Yelp! only lets me rate on whole stars. Onion Rings aside, the meal was solid and tasty, but nothing pushed it over the top into the '4 star' territory for me. Again, let me emphasize this is not a bad review. I'll eat there again in a heartbeat. And for me, solid, dependable and repeatable are the hallmarks of a good diner. I'm looking forward to an opportunity to drop back in for breakfast to round out my overall opinion. Great diner with good, solid food. It's a neighborhood diner with home cooking, good service and lots of regulars. When you walk in you seat yourself. You definitely notice the classic car decor. Be sure to check out the specials on the white board as they change daily. Sometimes they serve rack of lamb which I will try someday. The full menu is served all day. I recommend the turkey and dressing dinner. It's like Thanksgiving every time I order it. In fact, it's better than what I had on Thanksgiving. I usually order it when I don't know what I want to eat. The turkey is moist and tender, the dressing is flavorful and the mashed potatoes and gravy complete this plate. It also comes with a roll, a side and soup or salad. The onion rings are sliced thin, battered light, hot, greasy and good. If you want fried chicken pieces, order the broiled chicken. It takes 15 minutes to cook your chicken but it comes out moist and tender. If you order fried chicken on the menu, you will get chicken strips so be sure to ask to avoid confusion. One more note, the sweet tea is really good there. What you should know is this: the food is consistent, the service is good and the prices are reasonable. read more
