It had been six years since my last visit, but I recently returned this past Tuesday. While I was on an overseas vacation, I was in a rush and accidentally caught part of a Ziploc bag in my purse's zipper. The more I tried to fix it, the worse it became. Eventually, I managed to get the zipper almost all the way open, but it remained stuck and would not close for the rest of the trip. Thankfully, the purse had two major compartments with separate zippers, so I was still able to use it. When I got back, I brought the purse to Philip's Shoe Clinic, unsure if it could even be repaired. Oscar came out from the back of the shop to greet me. He was so considerate and did not want to handle my purse with his hands dirty from work, so he did not fully assess the damage at first. Still, he gave me a very reasonable estimate of $14 and said it would be ready in two days. To my delight, the purse was ready on time, and the zipper worked perfectly. Even better, Oscar only charged me $10 instead of $14. I truly appreciated his honesty. We chatted a bit, and I learned that Oscar has been the owner of the shop for the past nine years, although he has worked there since the 1990s. When the previous owner retired, she asked Oscar to take over, and he has been running it ever since. That explains why the high quality of work has never changed. This was not the first time Oscar showed such generosity. On two separate occasions, he did not charge me at all. Once was for punching extra holes in the strap of a crossbody bag so I could shorten it. Another time, about six years ago, a family member got some fabric caught in the zipper of a short jacket and had to take it off like a pullover. Oscar was able to fix it right away while I waited. Oscar is not only skilled but also kind and helpful. I feel so fortunate to have Philip's Shoe Clinic in our neighborhood. I highly recommend it.

Sketchers have been around for a long time but I think it's because they are such a trusted brand and they make great shoes! It's amazing to see how far they've come with their styles and that their quality is just as good. Welp, as soon as my bf and I stepped inside, we were immediately greeted and asked if we needed any help. The area was very clean and organized. There weren't many people inside the store which was nice because it wasn't super busy. My bf was looking for good work boots and he found some great pairs! They had an awesome sale going on so he got two pairs of boots for a really good price. To be honest, it's shocking to see others reviews talking about the poor customer service because I hadn't experienced that the last couple of times i was here. The one male employee that was here was eager to help and nice and friendly. We found what we needed at a decent price and we will for sure be back! I highly recommend this place for those looking for good quality shoes for an even better price! They have every style of shoe you'll ever need so it's worth checking this place out!

This should be a zero-star review…read more I had an incident where a pair of shoes was marked with one price at Sketchers in Vernon Hills and the box had a lower price (#1, first 2 photos). A friend had a similar pair where the shoes were marked higher and the box had both the higher and lower price ( #2). We literally didn't realize the lower price until we got to the cashier. The saleswoman said there had been a price change--an increase. I  asked for a lower price. She said she had seen the one pair on display and it looked defective (#1) so she would sell me that pair only for the lower price.  Shouldn't defective shoes go back to the manufacturer? She said she wouldn't honor the price on #2 (last photo). I asked to speak to a manager. She claimed to be the manager--I told her I was going to film her denying the price and she claimed to not want to be on film and went into the backroom. At this point, I will buy these shoes on Zappos for $90, with free shipping.

Since average sizes turn over more quickly than very large for very small shoes, they are often out of my size in the styles I like. I'm disappointed in the selection available in my size. It is located in a quiet historic basement of a building called "The Mall", on 474 Central. You can take the elevator or the stairs. The entry to the staircase is to the right of the Mizuki Grill. In the basement, you will find Tiffany style light shades overhead and stained glass pieces along the way. You will encounter a person walking towards you and then notice they are wearing the same outfit.. Oh, it's a mirror. A giant mirror. So just past the mirror is the friendly shoe and purse repair. The quality of his work is great and the turnaround time is very reasonable. It took only a couple of days to get the soles replaced on my husband's shoes. I appreciated that all the shoes for pick-up were conveniently placed in a paper bags so you don't have to carry them out in the open. A nice finishing touch. The downside: He takes cash only. The good thing is that he writes the price on the claim ticket and you pay when you pick your items up.
