For something different in Truckee, Red Truck is a great option, but at this point, everyone knows it. We went on a Saturday at prime lunch time of Labor Day Weekend and it was packed, but the food came out quickly. While the sandwiches are solid, you really should be going for their Indian inspired eats. Their naan is delicious and buttery. I went with the bowl which was this dal and quinoa medley with protein of your choice. I went with the chicken tikka and while mild, it was delicious; make sure to add on those delicious hot sauces. Portions are filling and everything is reasonably priced. The kid's naan dog was huge! The chocolate chip cookie was so perfectly gooey. They have a bunch of tables outside, and quite a few tables inside the airport. If you are new to Red Truck, they have a playground easily accesible while you eat, a big field perfect for bootin' a ball around and watching the planes come and go. I absolutely love Red Truck! Everything I've gotten here has been delicious but I am particularly fond of the tacos. Recently I tried a cookie for the first time and was blown away at how well they do desserts, too. The outdoor seating area is such a great place to hang out and watch the planes go by, with a small play area for children. If you're bringing your dog just be mindful there are usually at least a few others roaming around. The servers are friendly and food comes out quick, but best of all it's one of the few affordable spots in Truckee. I just wish it was open a bit later, or that they would one day open a full restaurant service in town! read more

Even at 2 PM, this place is still pretty busy for lunch. As I've mentioned before, it is a café at the airport and you would expect it to be quite expensive. But it's actually well priced for the quality of food you get $13.25 for a gyro. The prices have gone up so I put a couple of new menus pictures. I called my order in and they said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes and it' still was not ready. After waiting about 10 more minutes, I went to the counter and told him that it was lunch and it has already been 35 minutes. The girl went back to check and it was sitting on the top rack, prepared, just no one ever brought it out front... they were busy, but not busy enough to wear. The counterperson was just standing around and talking to people. The food itself is fresh taste really good. Like most companies, the price has gone up and the amount of meat in the gyro has reduced. They did put extra cucumbers and salad on the euro to fill it up a bit, but it's always disappointing to get less than what you had previously, but still have to pay more money... One final thing. I thought that they had forgotten to put their delicious hummus on the sandwich. As I got down to the last 20% of the sandwich, there was a big spoonful of hummus. Normally it's spread out nicely, so if you try the euro, make sure all the sauce is not in one spot. Easy fix to spread it around with a spoon or something. For Truckee, this is still one of the best places to eat in town if you're on a budget. I will try this again, to see if the just put less meat on the sandwich. read more

Purely for the bad employee, am I writing this review. I'm really disappointed by my last visit to Red Truck Truckee, even though I've always liked their food. My husband is a veteran with PTSD, and he has a service dog who goes everywhere with him. When we ordered, the blonde, frizzy-haired woman at the register was rude and impatient (and this isn't the first time we've seen her act this way). If you're going to be the first person customers deal with, here are a few tips: try smiling, speak in a kind tone, and maybe treat every customer with the same respect instead of picking and choosing who gets your friendliness. Basic customer service 101, lady. She told us that since we had a dog, we should sit outside. We explained clearly that it was a service dog, (pretty clear, since he was wearing his very well labeled vest with the words: SERVICE DOG, and DO NOT PET) but she insisted again that we eat outside. In case you weren't aware, that is not how the law works. Service dogs are allowed inside, and veterans relying on them deserve respect. It was 83 degrees that day -- far too hot for us to sit outside comfortably -- so we sat inside anyway. But the whole interaction left a sour taste, especially because she kept staring at us afterward. Meanwhile, she had plenty of time to be overly flirty and chatty with the airport employees coming in for lunch. Yikes. The contrast in treatment was obvious and honestly uncomfortable to watch. On top of that, it's not a good look to be perched on coffee tables while customers are walking in, making them wait until you're done with your personal conversation. That's just unprofessional. I enjoy Red Truck's food, but this kind of experience was really disappointing. Staff should be trained on ADA rules (and general customer service) and how to respectfully interact with customers who rely on service animals. The food was amazing. TBH I was not excited about going to an Indian-Mediterranean fusion restaurant (officially "modern eclectic"). I love Indian and Middle Eastern food, but have never been a fan of fusion. But boy was I pleasantly surprised! I had the bowl with falafel, and by gosh, by golly, Red Truck has the best falafel balls I've had in the US. Super clean tasting (no oil flavor contamination), full of umami flavor, and a pretty green color inside from fresh cilantro and parsley. The only better falafels I've had were at Mi Va Mi in Paris, but they've since closed. The sauces were on point and the overall bowl experience was amazing with hot sauce! Also the service was awesome: friendly and helpful. It took a while to get our food, but they were slammed. I'd rather wait for great food than get fast, mediocre food! My wife got the samosas, which were delicious, and my son got the falafel burrito through an order mix-up, but they caught the error and brought his vegan tacos a bit later. Everything was delicious. What a gem! Red Truck is definitely worth a drive out of your way if you like good food and great falafels. We'll definitely be back next time we're at Heavenly or Northstar! read more

Wow! Today we ate lunch at the Red Truck at the Truckee/Tahoe Airport. Located conveniently, of I 80, We had a delicious lunch. The menu is very eclectic, mixing Middle Eastern and Indian flavors. I had the naan sandwich...you have choices of meat or falafel. It was filled with a wonderful mixture of toppings. My husband indulged in the Naan Dog made from brisket also topped with a variety of sauces and greens. Both of our dishes were served with amazing house made naan. Red Truck also serves breakfast. Finally made it all the way to Truckee Airport to try the infamous red truck cafe. If you know anything about me you know I love airplanes and food. And my Gyro was amazing, so this place is a win-win. I honestly wish I had brought an extra one home for leftovers. The service was fast and friendly. Problem was they'd only come visit every so often, and I was never able to catch them! Which is why I'm so excited they have a permanent restaurant at the Truckee Airport! I finally had a chance to enjoy their food on a recent visit and it lived up to the hype. I generally find myself eating here once a week or so. I mean I'm writing this review for last week and I just ate here again today.... I'm pretty simple and always get the gyro, a bag of chips and a drink. I'm somewhat of a gyro aficionado and eat there wherever I can. I do enjoy Red Trucks version of it, the Tzatziki sauce and instead use their tahini and hilbeh sauce. The meat is always cooked well and they make their own naan, which is great. My only issues is with the portion size and how random it can be. If I go around lunch time I get somewhat of a skimpy portion. If I can hold out and go around 2ish I get a gyro of epic proportions, so unless it's a lunch meeting you'll find me there around 2. It's also a much better time crowd-wise as this place is hopping during the lunch hour. read more
