We randomly decided on this place because our original choice had a long wait, while this restaurant was able to seat our large party inside immediately. While dining inside was great/preferred, it was difficult to flag down someone as everyone else was outdoors. Their quesadilla was delicious, but the shrimps were super spicy so we ended up getting regular cheese quesadilla for the kids instead. Additionally, we got Super Nacos, a few tacos, chicken tenders with chips, and churro fries. The food overall took quite awhile to come out. At one point, we had to cancel one of our dishes because it never came and the kids were getting impatient about being there for so long...unclear whether this is because we had a large group and placed multiple orders (vs. 1 "complete" order in one go), but we likely wouldn't come back as a large group next time. read more

A few great things about this place. We were lucky to get a table quick during lunch time on the weekend. They really serve their drinks and food with fresh ingredients. The fish tacos tasted delicious with the combination of salsa and toppings on it. However, the fish was overcooked and my friend's corn tortillas were not pan fried enough and she had food poisoning from the chicken tacos. Shrimp tacos were amazing and i love how they had a thick hot sauce which looked like the diablo sauce. My mango sin mocktail was delicious as well. The shrimp quesadillas were great. So, I spend a ton of time in Truckee and haven't really found that many eateries I can get behind. Lo & behold, we came across Como when looking for a patio to enjoy a drink. And, I actually liked this joint. They are mainly a gringo Mexican spot that also offers food from the partnering business, the Clean Plate Club (or some name like that) which offers up healthier burgers, salads and so on. Como, regardless of the neighboring business, offers up a few vegetarian options as well, highlighting their cauliflower pastor and mushroom options, which I'm not a vegetarian but I do like vegetables. Margs - strong and good! I was a fan. I went off menu with a skinny marg and it was delish. Queso - Nothing legendary, but queso is good. The freshly fried chips were great. Burrito - Again, is this the legendary burrito you've had in the Mission or hole-in-the-wall taco truck? No. But for Truckee, it was big, fresh and reasonably priced. Bowl - Any burrito can be made into a bowl for those carb conscious. Kids chicken tenders - eh? But chicken tenders at a Mexican restaurant for my picky kids, what do you expect. As mentioned, they have a large outdoor patio and service was solid and friendly. This is not an authentic taqueria. I'm obsessed with Como's queso. Like very obsessed! It's the only queso I've found that is vegetarian friendly without chorizo already in the queso, of course if you want to add it you can! The service is beyond belief. They have a sister restaurant next door called Clean Plate. All of the low tables at Como were filled up and Ashley asked if we would like to seated at their sister restaurant next door. We didn't even leave the building! She passed me to Ashley at Clean Plate and presented me with both menus. My partner had a hankering for Mexican so we ordered 2 of the large taco orders. Both the Carne Asada and Baja Fish Tacos were the best we have had in a long time. They are 5.25 for 1 taco and 15.25 for 3 tacos. Partner and I each swapped one so I got to taste both. Fish was magic dipped in a tempura batter (light - not heavy and crunchy!!). There was black bean and corn salsa and cabbage with it. The corn tortilla was house made - hand pressed. Great flavor and texture. The Carne Asada had beef cut small enough to prevent it getting stuck in my teeth (I was so happy). There was avocado salsa and Cotija cheese in it with it as well as a classic salsa ranchero. We also got the chips and sals. We weren't going to but I'm so glad we did. Again warm house made tortilla chips with two house made salsa - tomatillo and a roasted Roma tomato salsa that was cooked down into a divine thick salsa that hung on to the tortilla chip like it was in love with it. Our mouths were so in love with the chips and salsa. This is NOT cheap Mexican street food. This was clean, upscale, dare I say gourmet Mexican street food. Worth every penny. Do t let me forget our beverages. He had the Como Margarita - gold star approval from my margarita connoisseur partner. I had a mock tail that was AMAZING. I had the Mango sin Tango which had mango, lime, ginger, chamoy and soda in it. It is the bartender's favorite mocktail. Btw, he was very nice to look at. Check out Bob on Friday nights! You're welcome. Super nice people, super fast back of the house. You will get a meal and an experience that rivals the finest in San Francisco. Before you read my review, my credentials for reviewing this are... I'm a local. I've gone three times since may, and I can say it's exponentially gotten worse to the point where we will not go back now. First visit, the food was awesome. But our waitress was a bit weird. She told us "no" when we tried to order drinks and food at the same time. That we had to order it one at a time. Second time service was better, but we noticed the food changed. And wasn't as good. Third time... was horrible. Took them ten minutes to seat us, and it wasn't busy. Took 15 minutes for someone to come get our drink order. The waitress spilled water all over my brother, and hardly apologized and just said "it'll cool you off" didn't even ask if he wanted a towel to wipe himself off. So he sat in the chair outside freezing and wet. When we ordered, the food was horrific. Tacos were cold. My husband ordered a chicken quesadilla, they gave him a quesadilla from the kids menu. We dropped by COMO for a late lunch on a Monday. The place has a large, covered patio with lots of tables the inside of the restaurant is open, comfortable, has an attractive design and welcome vibe. Everyone on staff worked as a team to make sure we were attended to. The street tacos were delicious - especially the salsa negra (?) was especially savory, the pollo guacamole and Baja fish also so tasty. Portions were generous and three street tacos were plenty. We came on a Summer Saturday at lunch hour, and they were too busy to even tell us they were too busy, so we left, but the lingering memories of the food we saw on the patio and lackluster neighboring choices (a diner with a $14 grilled cheese sandwich) caused us to go back and check the bar for which there was plentiful seating. I do not want to overwhelm the bar staff by suggesting people go there, but the service there was outstanding. Steve and Tati never stopped working for a moment, yet had time to be friendly and attentive. So, for bar service, ambiance (modern and dark inside, dog friendly patio for people watching out front), and the pina colada drink, they get five stars. The pre-mixed piña colada drink ($12) was tasty and strong, as strong as an airplane double but without all the turbulence. The food was more four stars. The guacamole was a fair deal ($3.50 more than chips and salsa) with good texture and creative touches like pepita seeds, but it needed a splash of their homemade habanero sauce to give it some heat. I both loved the carnitas burrito, which was full of big pieces of tender and delcious pork meat, and the cheese covering (when ordered wet) made it very filling; however their sauces are overly tart: the red tastes like a spaghetti-sauce mole and the green is like sweet and sour sauce. A little is okay, but too much is too much. Like I will listen to a Bjork song, but not a whole album. Their sauce is a Bjork concert. Get the sauces on the side. read more

Came here for the first time yesterday. Everyone was eating outside but my family and I enjoyed the AC inside! The service was great and friendly and the staff are happy to give recommendations! We started our meal off with the queso and chips. The cheese was really creamy and warm! We all really enjoyed it and the homemade chips were a little salty but I love them like that! We also started with the Como salad and that was really good and the dressing was tangy! For our main courses my kid got the kids quesadilla but we added their chicken and rice and my kid really enjoyed it and it was filling! We ordered sodas, lemonades and Shirley temples and all glasses were 80% filled with ice. Refills were included (thank goodness!) but slow to arrive. We sat outside and enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. It was comfortable at the picnic table and shaded enough so that no one was in direct sun. I was especially intrigued by the cauliflower pastor taco - it was an unexpected menu item and a fun vegetarian twist. The pork taco however was tastier. Our group spotted some hot sauces nearby and added those to our entrees - giving them some much needed heat. Overall, not a bad choice for a quick lunch - but not my first pick either. I cannot rave highly enough about my meal at COMO! I'm from LA where the variety and quality of Mexican food is incredible, so my standard for Mexican food is extremely high. Every single bite at COMO was a pleasure to my senses! The house made tortilla chips paired with the salsa roja and tomatillo were out of this world. I also had the guacamole add-on which was bursting with flavor. I had the fish taco and the chicken taco which they make with hand pressed tortillas and they were both outstanding with so many flavors and textured layered in. I feel like all the ingredients were so fresh and high quality at COMO which is why the food is top notch. You can taste the care and quality they put into their food. I sat outside on the patio and there was plenty of shade which made my stay pleasant. The staff of servers were exceptionally nice and took great care of me. Our server told us it was quite large, but when asked, they would not do a half portion. So instead, I ordered a single Pollo Verde street taco ($5.00) -chicken, tomatillo chili salsa, pickled onion, avocado, queso fresco. Really yummy and substantial.
