La Mexican serves the Latino community, the residents of North Lakes Tahoe and visitors to this area. Folks this small thriving business is a store, butcher shop, bakery, and restaurant. It may very well have the best pan dulce and Mexican food in the area. It is also very affordable. If you are in the area stop by and visit La Mexicana. It is opened 7 days a week and they open at 9 AM. Best chorizo I have bought anywhere in the Reno/Sparks, Truckee, and North Lake Tahoe area. I also love their pan dulce. Nos vemos allí.

Lovely neighborhood taco spot in North Lake Tahoe! We went pretty late at night and there was no line on a Saturday. Quick ordering process for takeout. We perused the market that is attached to the restaurant while we waited for our order. A great way to past time and loved all the authentic Mexican spices and produce there. Usually restaurants in Tahoe during winter season are super packed on the weekends with long wait times. But La Mexicana delivered authentic food in a prompt manner. Food was good. I got the carnitas and al pastor tacos for the combo. We also got an additional fish taco. The food was more than enough for me. I was pretty full after the two, and I pushed myself to split the fish taco. Fish taco was pretty good and had some good spice to it. I recommend giving that one a try.

The most Authentic cuisine in North Lake Tahoe! Whenever I visit the area from the Peninsula this is a highlight with service that never disappoints! There is also a Store inside ~La tienda~ and with this, the business creates a Unique Ambiance! Through any season! Sunshine or Storm! My order consisted of: Steak Chimichanga, Side French Fries, & Horchata.

OH yeah! This is legit. Anytime there is mexican food being sold from a market you know it will be fantastic. Stop here to grab some delicious grub and then head to the beach, you won't regret it. I came by on a warm September afternoon on my way to the beach. I have been loving AL Pastor lately, these tacos were huge and full of meat. Topped with onions and cilantro, you can't go wrong with that. A couple of salsas on the side and you are ready for a treat.

    Horchata

Hole in the wall style Mexican food and mart. This is a must try spot in Northern Tahoe. Very authentic Mexican food. I got the La American Burrito and it was great. Tacos were also amazing. Horchata was some of the best I have had. Highly recommend.

4.5 stars! Cute authentic take-out Mexican restaurant on the side of a small market. This is a great place for quick, cheap eats. Seems very authentic as there are a ton of locals in the area even on a cold, dark night. FOOD [4.5/5] ========== + Enchilada (4.5/5) Really saucy and HUGE portion size. Could be more salty IMO but not bad at all. The sauce was delicious and the cheese on top is great. + Carne Asada (4.5/5) Again, GREAT portion size. The onions and cilantro are quite fresh! The beef was a bit dry was our only complaint. + Bakery Pastry Whatever the creamy cross-hatch pastry in the photo is, it was amazing!! Super sweet and fluffy.

We like to grab a breakfast burrito and head across the street to eat it while staring at the lake. When they have pastries, make sure you stuff a few of those in your bag too! This time I decided to try something different and had the shrimp burrito with sour cream and I was blown away by (1) how many shrimp were in it and (2) how perfectly seasoned they were. The burrito was so full it actually fell apart, so no pretty pictures here, just a great meal from a local place we love to support.

Got into Kings Beach early evening before Labor Day weekend. I was craving a burger, but the first spot I tried had already closed. After a quick search (and not wanting Subway!), I came across La Mexicana. Perfect... Mexican food to go sounded great, and to my surprise, they also had burgers on the menu. I ordered both to take back to my rental, and while waiting, I browsed the market. Ended up picking up some Mexican baked goods for dessert and the next morning's breakfast... yum! The staff at the food counter were friendly and the market folks were very helpful. Btw, the produce looked very fresh and well presented. It's a nice little market and food stand combo, very cute, and I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Kings Beach.

Yes and you can do that via our website (lamexicana.net) on our catering page. Thank you!!

Do you make your own tortillas?

Hi Candace. No we do not make our own tortillas.

Can we call ahead to reserve an order for marinated meats out of the case for July 4, 2021 weekend?

Hi Billy, How many pounds do you need? We usually have plenty of meat ready during the holidays so unless it’s a large order there shouldn’t be any problem.

    Taco Tuesday deals?

That is a great idea! We will definitely look into that. Currently we do not have any deals.

Do you use nut products? If so, what type of nuts?

We do not use nuts in our food but we do use nuts in our baked goods mostly pecans so we do have the potential for but cross contamination

We went on a crowded summer Thursday night at 6:15 - without resys, and were able to be seated on a two seat bar top table. Not recommending you do that - call early in the day to make a reservation. Not a lot of table room on the bar top, but you'll enjoy it as you play chess with your glasses and dishes - come on, have some fun with your food! And don't forget, this is pizza - enjoy the ambiance, the locals, the summer set, and the families. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and our waitress was very attentive and made the rounds at the perfect time for refills. In a busy place, that is a monetarily rewarded skill! We ordered Jones bottled root beer - real sugar, strong root beer flavor - very nice. Your choice of crust can include GF, or the "regular" light, thin, lovely dough or "D" it up for Detroit style. If you're a mushroom and white sauce fan, Craft Mushroom is a meld of a silky white sauce and Gruyère, roasted maitake mushrooms, caramelized onion, roasted garlic, and a beautiful balsamic reduction that does not bite - but you will! The Vodka Pie had a smooth vodka sauce which paired so well with the sweet Italian sausage and spicy sausage - it's really nice when the sauce does not hijack the pizza but supports the main ingredients. Immediately when we walked up the cashier, which was a young lady, at the front was not welcoming and didn't greet us, she was very dismissive, making us sound dumb for paying with cash because they didn't have enough change in their drawer. I had a party of 6 placing orders, and 4 of us were able to get our orders taken but the last 2 in our group, also under the age of 14, were denied service because they were closing for lunch, which seemed extremely unprofessional because the cashier upfront also knew that we came in as a group because there were no other people taking orders, but us. We were confused and frustrated because they have a sliding door so there was no signage that they were closing at 3 until they slid the door to close the shop. If we knew, we wouldn't have placed orders. They close at 3 and reopen at 4 for their lunch, but I just wish the cashier would've at least gave us a notice because we didn't have the time to wait another hour to just place an order for the rest of our party. I went in asking for a refund so we can get food elsewhere that will cater to our whole party of 6 because it felt wrong to just eat in front of the other 2 people in our group. I was denied a refund by the cashier because they already "started making our order" is what she said. I still requested to have a refund made and she rolled her eyes and went to the back to grab her manager, and to compensate the manager said they would add an extra $1 sauce, or a $3 drink.. Our order itself was $48 and the others, $54 so that just didn't seem to fix the problem that we had. Since we were denied a refund, we just agreed on them adding a bit more things into our order. They added an extra side of mozzarella sticks which we didn't order, which kind of compensated... We ended up just sharing each other's order with the other two that didn't get an order placed.. we were still hungry after that and had to get food still elsewhere. The manager also tried to clear up the problem by just laughing it off and said something along the lines of "we good amigo?" (we had a spanish speaking person in our group) once they walked to the back room for lunch. It also rubbed us the wrong way because it was very dismissive and made it seem like our problem wasn't a big deal. So overall, the food was good.. the service was just horrible. I understand the need to take a lunch break because they deserve one, but it was just the bad service, bad compensation, and the cashier at the front not giving us a notice, and overall being rude.
