Stopped here after the beach to grab some food. We waited about 15 to 20 mins but figured the food would be fresh. Fries were oily, soggy and luke warm. Worse is that the patties on our friends double cheese burger were semi frozen and pink in the middle. As we were already heading out of town we didnt turn back. Needless to say it was a waste of money for our friend who didnt feel safe eating his burger. I will say they do give a good portion of fries which are 4 to 5 bucks. Burgers are 11 to 15 dollars i think. We may have just had bad luck on our visit bc their patio was pretty busy and the food smelled good but didn't hit the mark. Perhaps we'd try it again if in the area as many people do have good things to say. Also beware that the parking situation is difficult on a busy day like when we went. The store was very unorganized, and honestly it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. I placed an online order because the whole point is to have your food ready so you can pick it up and leave. Instead, when I got there, they told me to wait in the 20 minute line with everyone else. If I still have to wait in line after placing an online order, what's the point? I ended up leaving and told them I wasn't going to wait another 20 minutes just to pay for food that's been sitting there getting cold. Their burgers are already wrapped up, so after 20-30 minutes the steam makes the buns soggy. I've had it happen before, and it's honestly disgusting. $14 mushroom burger with extra mushrooms on it and it's still only tasted like a bunch of bread. That was the thinnest piece of meat I've ever seen. I've seen thicker burgers at McDonald's. It was dry had no flavor. I don't even think these guys use any salt pepper. Not good at all. I wanted to give them a two star but the staff and the cooks were really nice so I bumped it up to a three because they were really super friendly. read more

We come up to Lake Tahoe every year or so, and one the 'must eats' is Char-Pit. I usually go for the Char Burger or The Cheeseburger (really good burgers, generous portion sizes). Their fries are really good, the seasoning they use is tasty, also they're great dipping them in a side of their ranch. read more

This place is a little hole in the wall and the burgers were good. You can definitely taste the char, but they are on the expensive side. The bun was a tad too big for the amount of meat. I would recommend getting a double to have a good bun to meat ratio. Definitely has a small town feel, and the staff were all very kind. read more

Ehh, I order the mexi burger which came with a single patty, single cheese and a green chile (I added bacon). I also ordered a side of onion rings. I honestly thought the burger had potential but the one thing that disappointed me was how dry the hamburger patty was and it lacked flavor. We went to the Char Pit for a chocolate dipped cone, as we have had and loved before. When we got there, we noticed a sign that advertised soft serve ice cream, but when we went to the counter we were informed that they only have milk shakes and sundaes with regular ice cream, not soft serve. This was a little upsetting, but we still ordered milkshakes and sundaes. We waited for nearly an hour for 6 milkshakes and 1 sundae. When we received our milkshakes, they were very runny throughout, with all mix-ins in a clump at the bottom. One banana milkshake had two entirely intact bananas at the bottom of the cup. Another oreo milkshake had banana from the previous milk shake mixed in, which was quite alarming. Overall, the milkshakes were very small and over $8. We were extremely disappointed in our experience, as we have loved coming here over the years. We really hope the Char Pit brings back their soft serve, and their usual quality! Horrible Service. I had to return their grill cheese sandwiches because the bread had mold. They remade them but I again saw a spec of it and returned them all and didn't feel comfortable eating it. I asked them to switch it to burgers and the manager looked annoyed. When I went to pick up the burgers he acted like I was lying and I wanted more then I ordered. (Nothing they haven't done before as I've been coming here for the past 15 years) then refused to cook for me, refused to clean a small section of the grill or make any effort to accommodate my health needs, in which I wanted a refund. My boyfriend and I had eaten here 3 years ago and I loved it. I was the best fish sandwich I've ever had and my boyfriend loved his hamburger. We couldn't remember the name until this year and went back with family. The quality of their food is just as good as it was last time. Everyone did good service and prompt with getting the food out. We have eaten here several times over the past year and I was looking forward to a great burger, but left feeling disappointed. Not sure when it happened, but they seem to have replaced the patties with a Sysco-based option as it was small, and tasteless, even with a mound of mushrooms and cheese on top. You used to be able to see the pit and the hamburgers as they were getting charbroiled. The burger was a good burger. But it was not the char broiled burger from the past. The price however was exorbitant. $20 for a double burger and fries. That would've been fine if it had the char grill, smoky flavored that I was looking for. Also, the fries were different. They were hard and dehydrated. Not sure if overcooked or just sitting in the heat lamp far too long. I probably only ate five of the fries. It was Friday night at 6 PM. First time here. There were 7 of us. I got a grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings. My food was great. The two $7 baskets of fries were not hot and just ok. The burgers seemed to please the rest. They have a nice patio with a handful of picnic tables. Inside seating is minimal. Pretty reasonable prices as well! Giving it 4 stars because on the double cheese burger one of the patties was well done, compared to the other having lots of pink. Still edible though! Walked around found this place was open and had outdoor seating so we ate with the dogs despite the chill in the air. While waiting we saw two bears walking across the street ! Wanted to the family rib meal but guy said not available so ordered a full rack of ribs that came with Cole slaw and lots of fries for $34. There were no bones. The fatty parts were juicer and more tender and covered in sweet bbq sauce that had a little bit of heat. We ate it all because afraid to walk back with leftovers since bears might still be around. We got fries which were shoe string style, very crispy and perfect salt ratio. We had onion rings and I love my onion rings, they were airy crispy so tasty I really enjoyed the onion rings. Service was great, very small place about 3 tables inside 2 seaters and 1 table with 4 seats there are additional tables outside which is best for the views anyway. And lovely little birds dancing on the fence, singing their hearts out for crumbs. It was a lovely sight. We ride our e-bike and had a table outside, we were sitting inside but boy oh boy it got hot real fast . Do not sit inside get a table they have two little tables on the right side of the entrance. Was visiting the weekend of April 19th. While down the street playing at the park and beach we worked up an appetite. When we are away from home and in a new place we like to try places that have been around awhile and look it. I think it means they've stood the test of time and are worth a visit. So onward to Char-pit we go. Parking is small. there are tables outside and some inside. The inside of the place is pretty cramped but totally gave a vintage feel. Person who took my order was nice. Wasn't rushing me as I decided what I wanted. We were hungry so we needed these meals to do what they needed to. My husband, daughters boyfriend and granddaughter had burgers and fries. I on the other hand wanted some fish and chips. I also ordered some onion rings for the table. Burgers were grilled to well. Vegetables were vibrant in color and looked fresh. French fries were nice and fresh out the fryer. My fish and chips were "eh". I mean I didn't expect a fresh catch either. Onion rings were well battered and fried crispy. When we ordered, there was only 1 order ahead of us. Took 15 minutes for the order to come out then another 15 for ours. We drove the 5 minutes home and immediately started eating. Really unfortunate that everything was cold as if the burgers had sat there for 20 minutes before they were handed to us. menu looks very promising, but unfortunately, they use a garden burger that has egg in it and so that excludes all the vegans who are fairly strict about their self imposed dietary restriction. The original garden burger was actually vegan so that would be an easy fix. Plus there's stuff like impossible burger, and beyond burger that are freakishly, realistic, analogs of meat. They taste way better than any of the garden burger and cost right around the same if you buy them at Costco or Grocery Outlet in incline village. I sure would be excited for the day when they use that protein instead of stuff with egg in it. On a personal note: i've been vegan since 1999 and vegetarian my entire adult life, but I'm now thinking of becoming what I would term an opportunistic vegan. This would mean I'll eat vegan when available, but if I'm traveling to countries or even townships where that would be a challenge, I can just abandon my lofty virtues temporarily. In other words if there's trace amounts of egg, milk or whey in a product that is otherwise vegan such as the garden burger I probably would still eat it. This would represent a pretty significant change for a 25 year plus vegan like me. Anyway I think I'm still gonna take a cheat day so i can try that Char-pit vegetarian Shawarma! read more

Usually this place is jam packed in the summer especially on a holiday weekend. I stopped in right when they opened so I avoided the worst of the crowds. Get here early! Burger fries and drinks were all we got, just a normal burger lunch before headed for our long drive back home. The prices are Tahoe prices so no surprise here. The burgers tasted good and juicy and the fries were just fries. Service was fine as they weren't in a big jammed rush mode that early. We walked in at around 6:45 on a Thursday night, 5 of us, and all the employees just looked at us like we had three heads. My wife made a comment that we hadn't been here before and no one said a word...literally just looked at us. It was so weird. We had two kids with us and three adults. We tip well for decent service but in this case, we had to walk out because the energy there sucked. Embarrassing for the owner really.
