    Duck confit hash
    Jessica W.

Sunday brunch! Their 2nd weekend in and it was delicious. Our server Amanda was there for recommendations and looked after us so well during our meal. We started with the deviled eggs which were all equally tasty. We did the spicy crab Benedict and the duck confit hash. The Benedict had the perfect amount of spice, and was served with a warm potato salad. That potato "salad" ended up being a favorite part. Roasted potatoes, tomatoes, and capers. Wow! Duck hash was yummy. There's something to be said for food that is prepared so lovingly and is so balanced you don't want for anything. We sat inside but the patio had someone spinning records which will be fun for next time. Reservations recommended, and I can see why when this gets more popular! My only request would be an online option to do this.

    Egg nog cheesecake

I have been wanting to try this place for quite awhile! The Red Tavern is located in Chico..in an unpretentious location (esplanade avenue). They open at 430 pm daily. We went here today..december 20th..see receipt. Although smaller then expected it had a very cozy atmosphere. Alot of artwork on the walls. For dinner i shared the 10 ounce steak and the 11 dollar happy hour sauteed shrimp. The steak was too rare for me but the shrimp sautéed in butter and garlic was delicious! We enjoyed their house cab...only 7 dollars during happy hour( which lasts till 6 pm). The cab tasted like a 20 dollar glass of wine! We also had the egg nog cheesecake which was so good! They have indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating has large patio heaters. They have a smaller area to sit at the bar. They offer a full bar and a TON of signature cocktails. This place is a bit more upscale then super casual attire (fyi). The staff is friendly and super accommodating! Shae was our waitress and she was delightful and on top of everything! The female owner (chris i think) checked on us and was genuinely intetested in feedback from other patrons! Plenty of parking in the front and back of restaurant.. next time i am in the area i will try the halibut! Ps. MAKE RESERVATIONS! They get very busy!

So over priced. Food and drinks not great. Like a horribly B rate version of 5th st steak house. Go there instead.

Not only is their wine and champagne fantastic (organic-sulphate free!), it's also ideal for the kind of quaint and intimate gathering I was desiring. Everywhere I turned, there was a sweet face to converse and catch-up with. We brought in a great musician to play his saxophone while we all danced around. And my charcuterie spread was of the chain, fantastic. It covered a whole dining table. My favorite was enjoying my apricot and cream filled cake from nearby Upper Crust Bakery. Their server was on point. She kept everyone's champagne glasses full, which was crucial on this hot summer's evening. I wish I could party like this every weekend. It felt like a real Napa-Chico experience. I'd recommend to anyone to have their special event here. Thank you LaRocca, I'll be back! -Prairie

Highly acidic flat wine that had a few varieties in bottle. We choked our way thru the first tasting and apologized to the staff member " it just wasn't our flavor". I paid the full fare and he denied it. I apologized again and left it in his tip jar for two tasting and a glass. This winery has been around since the 80's. The tasting room was a bit cluttered and a nice tasting bar but staff not the wine held our attention. Maybe there's reason why wine has improved since the Dawn of time.

The weather was perfect and the service was excellent. Our waiter suggested drinks for us and breakfast and oil was brought out to us. Loved the cute touch with the restaurants bake in the oil. We started off with Brussels sprouts and the shrimp arrbbiata. The appetizer set the standard for the meal and these did not disappoint! The Brussels sprouts were crispy and crunchy yet sweet and salty! The shrimp was placed on a thick sourdough bread that was so soft by the lemon garlic butter that the fork easily cut into it! This dish lemon scampi sauce was so delicious I need the recipe asap!! For entree we ordered lobster ravioli that has a form cream lobster reduction that was so creamy and buttery! The ravioli was perfectly cooked and soft! Probably the best lobster ravioli I've had! The second entree was the shortrib ragu and the rib meat were tender and the pasta soft! The burrata cheese on top pulled all the flavors together! This is such a cute place with great views and great service!

You step inside and head upstairs, and suddenly the outside world is forgotten. It's its own little realm holding court in the heart of Chico. It is warm, inviting, and has plenty of seating, with a full cast of attentive staff, and decor that doesn't shout "Italian!" from the rooftops, but is very hipster whispering with confidence. We opened with the lamb appetizer, and I'll admit this with measured humility... it rivaled my own. Tender, well-seasoned, and not a trace of that gamey nonsense. The Brussels sprouts followed suit, crisped just right, delivering that perfect bite between char and flavor. The bread and dipping combo? Let's just say restraint was not my strong suit. A few pizzas passed by like temptation itself, and every one of us took notice. Plans were made... our future visit in the works. For the mains, the birthday girl claimed the ribeye, and it arrived exactly as it should... cooked to perfection, with potatoes that could quietly steal the show if you weren't paying attention. Her boyfriend and I, in a moment of questionable maturity, settled our fate with Rochambeau. He emerged victorious and took the crispy chicken breast with gnocchi, a dish generous enough to test even a committed appetite. I went with the short rib ragu, rich and comforting, the kind of plate that doesn't need explaining. The drink selection holds its own, and the dessert menu read like a final act worth staying for... but we were defeated in the best possible way and bowed out early. Service never missed a beat. Present, attentive, and smooth from start to finish. Parking, as with most things in downtown Chico, requires a bit of patience and perhaps a small offering to the parking gods. But once inside, it's quickly forgotten. All told, a night well spent. Good food, good company, and a place that knows exactly what it's doing without needing to announce it. We'll be back... if only to answer the question those passing pizzas left behind.
