I had Hall Electrical install several new smoke detectors and do numerous other small electrical…read moreimprovements, including installing a light fixture, outdoor outlet and switches. Eddie Hall was responsive by phone and provided an estimate that was less than competitors, who seemed far less interested in looking after a small job such as mine. The electrician arrived as scheduled and completed the work in the time estimated. All the work was well done and he cleaned everything up well, unlike many other contractors. I would not hesitate to use them again and I recommend them.

So their installation service may be very good, if you can get them to show up. I haven't been…read moreable to get them to show up. To get them to show up, you have to be way more flexible than a normal working person can be. I contacted them and Sam told me they could come on a Friday at 7:30 a.m., which doesn't work because I have a family to get out of the house, eating breakfast under the fixture I need replaced (we're normal Vancouver people, we don't have tons of space and a room/table I could relocate breakfast to). Then he said they could come later on Friday morning, but couldn't commit to a time. I countered with Thursday afternoon, which he said would work better, and he agreed to a time. I arranged my work schedule to be there. On Wednesday morning, I got a call at work from their installer, asking if I could be home that day to do the install (uh, no, not on short notice). As agreed, I stayed home on Thursday for the Thursday afternoon appointment, moved everything around to be ready for them, and then the installer called me an hour in advance to tell me he couldn't make it and wanted to reschedule for the next week. If you have a stay-at-home partner / roommate or you work from home or have a contractor or someone handling your house, Hall Electrical might be great. But if you can't be at home on a weekday at the drop of a hat, don't bother with them.

5 years ago, I bought a Navien combi heater unit from them and in those 5 years, I've had them come…read morein 4 times to service the unit. On 3 of those times, they were extremely inefficient and wasted a great deal of time by doing the following: - calling their manager to get instructions on how the unit worked - bringing an instruction manual and spending several hours reading it ( later we found out that this person was a trainee and was learning on the spot ) - during the lengthy maintenance service, we'd peak in on them and noticed they were just sitting there staring blankly at the unit for over 15 minutes!! Like he was praying to the Navien gods or something!! Basically, we got the impression that they would take an inordinate amount of time servicing the unit in order to charge us an excessive amount for an anual maintanence. Each time they visited us, the service cost was around $500. On one occasion they had to do a special descaling process on the unit and that costed $650. We were really suspicious of why a 5 year old unit would require such costly maintenance ( our prior unit was 30 years old and only required servicing 3 times in that time span ), so we called around to other companies in the area and got a quote from them and none of them were quoting us anywhere near the amount the Good Gooys were. Just be very careful when they send over a "specialist" to take a look at your unit. They may be sending you an intern and even when they do send an experienced repairman, they seem to have a minimum service time that they'll spend looking at your unit regardless of the condition the unit is in. Don't be surprised if they charge you $500 to wipe some oil stains off your unit and quote you for 6 hours of work. EDIT: I just added proof that I did in fact purchase a system from The Good Guys as well as an invoice for one of their visits.

On install day, they told us we couldn't install in one of the rooms because the window was too high to the ceiling and there wouldn't be enough clearance. I referred a friend and they told my friend I would get a referral bonus but never ended up getting anything so that was disappointing. But I would use these guys again because they sell Mitsubishi air conditioners and do a good job.

I was not looking forward to finding a plumbing service as past encounters have often left me feeling disrespected for time and even gouged for labour and 'delivery' of parts. Once here, Rob efficiently completed the job and pointed out some welcome information about the plumbing. I am very happy with the results! And was pleased to pay a FAIR price for the service. Our garburator needed repairing, and after explaining what was wrong, we were advised that we may have to install a new one. We did not need a new garburator, and he helped us fix ours. He also showed us how to check/troubleshoot the garburator ourselves in the future. We would highly recommend Universal Plumbing and Heating, and will definitely use them again!
