My wife and I went in before a Blazer game a few weeks ago. Cool spot but pizza was just okay (should've been better for the price). What really got me was the rude customers service. Not only was the wait long and the cashier acted like we inconvenienced her; but we had no choice on the mandatory 20% tip (rewarding bad customer service). Good pizza in a nice part of Portland. The crust is chewy and sauce is very tasty. They have vegan cheese options so that's a big plus. Service was good and everything is casual in a funky atmosphere that's fun to be in. They do automatically charge a 20 percent tip for service. I didn't catch that going in but they do have a sign on the outside. My only complaint is that they barely put any sausage as a topping and they didn't use fresh garlic as a topping. It was powder. Really good pizza, great flavors, lovely red sauce. I was very disappointed that they don't do slices and only do half and half on the large pizzas with the same sauce base. I would have loved to try their mushroom pizza, but I'm glad I tried the one with the red sauce since it's in the name. A couple things that did bother me are the fact that even with a light char, about 1/2 of the crust was burnt, and they charge 20% gratuity for pickup orders (and it's not that cheap of a pizza in the first place). I don't mind waiting at the counter, but in my experience the employees chat amongst themselves and don't acknowledge you at all for 2-3 minutes before just saying "hey". The last time I went to pick up an order, I arrived early and tried ordering a drink while I waited at the bar, but I sat there for at least 10 minutes waiting for someone before I decided to interrupt someone and try to order a drink. Long overdue review for my portland favorite pizza. This place is the perfect portland pizza. Amazing pizza, but having amazing "portland pizza" requires the souls of the neighborhood. At their prior location, I remember coming in during an ice storm around 2017. I offered to shovel their sidewalk, throw some salt for a free pie and it was an immediate "YES". They wanted to keep busy in the kitchen and keeping us safe. That story has nothing to do with how great their food is, perfectly made dough, cheese to die for toppings cut by hand. Unfortunately, what we experienced at Red Sauce was a mediocre pizza, and getting yelled at for raising our hand to let the server know we would like some service. I've tried this place a few times and it pains me to give it a mediocre score. Their wait time are always long. This time, we ordered online and when my husband went to pick it up at appointee time, they said they're backed up and it would extra 25 mins. So their online system is not good at giving accurate pickup times. When we got the pizza home, the crust portion was so floppy and thin you have to use two hands to eat your slice or it will just bend onto your plate. We just moved to Grant Park and oh boy, are we lucky to have this as our local pizza spot. I know Portland is a pizza town and Red Sauce is up to the task. We've ordered delivery from here twice already in the three weeks since we moved in. We tried the Caesar salad, the Georjean (house vodka sauce, ricotta, basil and EVOO), the Ruthless (ricotta mushroom and truffle), The Rosie (calabrese salami, pickled peppers and Shardell's spicy honey) and a classic pepperoni. Everything was delicious, 'would order again' good, but our favorite was the Georjean. Crust is crispy with char. The Caesar dressing was no joke, quite possibly the best we've ever had. The good: The hostess was lovely and the kitchen sent out a tasty pizza. The rest: My party and I had a subpar dining experience on April 19th in the evening, which defeated the purpose of dining in. Our server was inattentive. It took 90+ minutes to receive our sit-down order as we watched freshly-placed takeout orders get prioritized time and time again. Maybe they were just overwhelmed, as it's pizza week, but you have to operate like it's each diner's first time. Because unfortunately, that was the case for my party. Not a good first impression. Communication goes a long way and it was lacking at Red Sauce Pizza. I can understand the kitchen being backed up at dinnertime but you tell your patrons that and give an ETA. Don't leave them to sit and wonder or have to inquire. Service 101. The worst part is that their soft serve was one of the draws. While our server was literally sitting down laughing with another table of patrons as we tried to get her attention, a big group came in and got the last of the soft serve before the machine broke. I know this because I got up and went to ask the hostess for boxes and soft serve after being tired of sitting in that place and she cringed as she told me. When our actual server finally came back over to see if we needed anything (after we no longer did), she also joked about how she was finally done ignoring us. She also insisted I was wrong when I explained the latest development to her about the soft serve. Can't make this stuff up. FYI - 20% gratuity is automatically included for parties of all sizes. I normally don't like pizza, especially pizzas with red sauce due to my disdain for tomatoes. That being said, it was my unprovoked idea to go to Red Sauce Pizza for dinner the other night and I regret nothing! To be fair, we got the two pizzas that don't have tomato sauce and they were amazing. The crust was thin, perfectly chewy, and really made me reconsider this whole "I don't like pizza" reputation I gave myself because I can see myself coming back time and time again. Extra points for the outdoor seating area - lots of space available for you and all of your friends! Ruthless pizza (4/5) - This one had ricotta, truffle oil, mushrooms, and no red sauce. Definitely can taste the truffle, and the ricotta melted really well into the pizza. Hot Nancy pizza (5/5) - my favorite pizza I've ever had by far! This also did not have red sauce, but was topped with ricotta, red onion, and drizzled with spicy honey. It was the perfect balance of sweet and salty, which is my favorite combination of flavors! Cesar salad (1/5) - ingredients were definitely fresh, but this dressing was just... not it for me. I was expecting a more familiar cesar dressing flavor, but it ended up just tasting like lemon juice and parmesan cheese. Not a fan, don't recommend. Cheesy bread (5/5) - I want to say this was basically a thicker crusted cheese pizza without the sauce, and I am absolutely not mad about it at all. We waited an hour and 15 minutes from when we ordered until when our pizza arrived. Many people around us had clearly been waiting longer. It was insulting watching folks come in the door, make a to go order and receive their pizza before us. The business clearly prioritizes their to-go order over customers dining in. When the pizza finally arrived it was very mediocre. Very burnt. The dough was not good and just did not taste like a $30 pizza. For all the good pizza that exists in Portland how does this place stay in business? When the bill arrived we noticed an automatic 20% gratuity had been added. I will always tip 20% if I receive decent service but it felt odd to me that after receiving bad service I had no choice but to pay a 20% tip. There are so many great pizza places in Portland and we only tried this place because it was in our neighborhood. Now I know why no one has ever recommended this place to me. You had me at delicious soft serve. Not many places in Portland offer soft serve ice cream, especially not any dope pizza spots. I highly recommend spoiling your dinner with one of these cones while you wait for your pizza. The pizza here is really good, a nice crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside crust with the tiniest little black char spots on it is what I like to call, a little slice of happiness. Highly recommend the Hot Nancy. The honey they put on this pizza on the top is so unique and really makes this a fine pie. This business supports all kinds of social justice issues with fundraisers(100 percent of the proceeds type of fundraisers!!!) so you really feel good about spending your money here. Oh, and to-go only to protect employees during a global pandemic? Hell yeah!
