I had the opportunity of trying Red Rooster Tacos because my friends and I were hanging out at Tank18. There's no food served at the winery, so we ran outside to grab tacos from this truck that was conveniently located right in front. There must be a steady stream of business for whoever is lucky enough to be stationed outside on busy Tank 18 days! My boyfriend and I ordered carne asada tacos, which were inexpensive and plain. Not somewhere that I'd run to if I saw this truck at a food stop of other trucks. I kind of laughed at my friend who later went to the truck to order tacos, brought them back, then realized they forgot to put salsa. I mean, I laughed at the situation but would have been very unhappy if that happened to me. But regardless of how displeased I was at the quality of tacos, I was grateful that they even existed, especially while I was drinking a large quantity of wine next door. read more

Starving as I experienced a long day of exams and chemistry lab with no food since 8am, Red Rooster had lights shining on it like fricken ANGELS leading me to it or something. It happened to be on my campus today and I ran up to the truck wanting to BEAR HUG it. The owner was extremely enthusiastic and friendly and recommended the Al Pastor (marinated pork) to me. Hail to the pig that died for me because I swallowed it in 9 minutes. I ordered the burrito for $7 flat, NO TAX! The burrito came with a bunch of stuff which I didnt really care for because I was so hungry. But I THINK it had cilantro, beans, rice, marinated pork, guacamole, sour cream... and that's all I remembered. It was DELICIOUS! I would've never thought of putting roasted chicken into a burrito. Burritos in my eyes were always associated with meat - carne asada, al pastor, etc. I thought their chicken burrito would taste like Chipotle's makeshift Mexican food, but I was wrong! The chicken was extremely flavorful and the marinade added another dimension of juiciness. Wow! This was the most delicious taco that I've ever gorged my face in.. only great things to say about this place: the service was amaaazing, the guy behind the counter was incredibly friendly and I told him I wanted to just try something small, he suggested a taco. I asked for an avocado on it and he said sure: $2. I picked grilled chicken (tryin' to be healthy here!) for the taco and within minutes, BAM. He gives me the taco and says "I make it especially for you." I don't know whether he was trying to give me something special because I left a $1 tip (just for his sheer friendliness) or whether he was trying to make me feel special as a customer, but this freaking taco blew my mind...like no other taco in this world has. So much so, it deserves its own special paragraph: it had a great home made spicy sauce (or marinade?) to it, the chicken tasted orgasmic with the combination of sauce, avocado and the high quality white meat that I was served. They catered last nights Halloween neighborhood party and they were BAD. Perhaps it was an off night, perhaps they were overwhelmed but... I was on my lunch break and noticed that Red Rooster was stationed on campus (SFSU) so I went to go check it out. I wanted something small so I got two tacos. One carne asada with mild salsa and one al pastor with hot salsa. Each taco was $2. They gave me pickled jalapeños and carrots too. Service was pretty speedy. I seriously got my tacos within five minutes. I think this is because they weren't particularly busy when I ordered. Both tacos were good. I liked the carne asada one the best but I'm wondering if it's because I liked the salsa better. Both salsas were good but the mild had more focus on flavor and the hot had you noticing the heat more. Otherwise, both tacos were juicy delicious. The pickled veggies were great. They offer these to you as they give you your food so when you get your food...I recommend you get 'em. Tasty meal. read more

My husband and I hired Red Rooster Tacos to cater our wedding party. We were BLOWN away. Their tacos, burritos and quesadillas incredible, everyone was raving about the spicy sauce. Not only was the food great, but they also provided amazing service. Our party was in Half Moon Bay, so they were driving the truck from San Francisco. Unfortunately, they had a tire blowout on the way. None of their trucks were close enough to switch out, so Hugo borrowed his brother's truck in order to still make it. He kept us updated with what was going on and got to the party with only a slight delay. His commitment to customer service and getting to our party was worth its weight in gold!!! I came here on a random Saturday afternoon around 2:30 and it felt like this guy was parked a million miles away from civilization on 19th and Harrison. The good part about this? Parking! There were two oddities that I'd hope the owner would rethink: 1. No garbage. There was no garbage can available. Maybe he just had forgotten to put it out. 2. Pay after? He didn't take my money until after he had given me my food. There are potentially so many problems with this I just don't have the time to get into it. The good side: Exceptionally friendly. I tried the Chicken Quesadilla and it was very good and I will be back next time I see this truck. Even better though, and I highly suggest you give it a try, is the excellent green salsa. Red Rooster's utilitarian, all-lengua foodlog contained no rice, no beans, partially-unmelted cheese, a lightly grilled tortilla, and still pretty much ruled. Why? It was the melt-in-your-mouth tender tounge, so good that it made me ignore the fact that I was pretty much making out with a cow (lengua, the meal that could at one point have licked back). Flavored with a faint hint of cinnamon and citrus, it was perhaps the tastiest lengua I've ever laid eyes (or pallate) upon. While a little bit of over-the-top sauciness made some slurping required, the damn thing held together beautifully A loving handful of Jalapeños and Pickled vegetables provided a nice spicy back-up and needed crunch, and melded their spice exceptionally with piquant salsa and extraordinarily chunky guacamole. While the entire thing could have used a stint on the grill post-construction to fully-melt the cheese and bring temperatures up to appropriately scalding levels, it was still one of the best burritos I've had in recent memory. read more

We hired Red Rooster to cater a company event for about 75 that we held in our office. Initially we wanted to have the truck park outside the office and we would get the food from the truck. Logistically this ended up being a mess with our office building so we asked if they could bring the food upstairs and we would just have the entire event in our office. No Problem! The team was on time, friendly, and efficient. Set up was a breeze - they brought a flat top up to heat tortillas, had all the meat choices, rice beans, salsa, chips and guac and it was all DELISH! The entire company raved about how good the food was- everyone got more than enough and quickly too. Them being able to change gears and serve in the office saved the day. The FABULOUS Red Rooster taco truck provided amazing food for our neighborhood party. Organization was super easy - just an email to Hugo. The crew showed up early enough to set up and get cooking. They were ready for orders right at the designated time. The food was great and everyone was SO stoked! When we looked in to hiring a truck versus buying and preparing all the food ourselves, it turned out to be just as economical to have the truck come. PLUS it was fun and there was NO clean up! My only recommendations: 1) Take the pricing off of the menu for fully catered events. Some people thought they needed to pay. 2) There was a tip jar on the counter, but it had these little tickets in it. It was confusing to our guests - whether or not they should tip. I was planning on giving a tip at the end of the evening and maybe I should have communicated that, but at the same time I wish there wasn't a tip jar or that I was asked about it. I still tipped because the experience was amazing! If you are planning a taco truck party here are some thoughts: 1) Make sure people know that the food is free (if you are planning on paying.) 2) Get a kid or someone to go up and start ordering right away. My only nit was the service was slooooow - Yes, about 30 guests bum rushed the truck when it pull up but there were only two people working. The other issue was the soft drinks were room temp. Food is good. Service a bit challenging as one poor guy is slaving away cooking while the order taker was very rude. Seemed like he was doing us a big favor by taking our money. Perhaps he was having a bad day but he sure had the wrong attitude for dealing with the public. He just gave out a very negative vibe. Sodas were room temperature and no menu was posted and then he would get upset with people for asking what the choices were as the line was very long. It took a good amount of time to get served but thankfully the food was good. I wouldn't patronize this food truck again as the rudeness ruined the whole experience.
