Moose drool - local brew w / 5% alcohol
Marty S.

Good: 1. Salad bar was fresh and unlimited. Plenty of dressings provided to garnish. 2. Mashed potatoes were creamy and tasty. 3. Our waiter was outstanding and fully attentive to our needs. Bad: 1 No amber flavored local brewski to select. 2. Meat quality just average. I expected better because it did bare the establishments name in its title. 3. Soup was lumpy and much to salty.

Not exactly a place for fine dining, but the food was OK. We came in a little after the lunch crowd rush, but were seated quickly in a comfortable booth. Service was a bit slow, but I believe there were too few servers as well as a back up in the kitchen. The salad bar was completely picked over, so we opted for some sandwiches with fries. They were good and hit the spot, but not great. They have a full service bar as well. With limited options in Wall, this may be one of the better options.

Tiny salad

We ordered carry out for our anniversary. It was absolutely the worst meal I believe I've ever had. The salad had about 5 pieces of lettuce, 1 tomato, and 3 coutons. The baked potato was so old that it was partially black. The New York Strip was so tough we couldn't cut it with a good steak knife! I'm having a protein shake instead.

We stopped here at for lunch during a recent road trip the food was excellent. The staff was friendly, efficient and polite. The food was freshly prepared to order and delicious. The drinks were deliciously prepared, they made an incredible mud slide.

Our server was so sweet and extremely attentive! The place itself is nothing special. Do be aware there seems to be 2 sides to the establishment: a bar side and restaurant side. I will say the cowboy beans were excellent! My broadted chicken was a little overdone for me ( I like my chicken a caramel color vs dark brown). If you didn't know oles is a tater tot and man, were they plentiful! Salad bar was included and the ingredients seemed fresh. The place was picking up as we were leaving seems the licals like it too.

Steak tips w/baked potato

First of all, we had a great waitress named Kyli. She was super sweet and took great care of us. We sat outside on the patio because we had our fur baby with us. Being outside didn't stop Kyli from being prompt and attentive. The outdoor seating was great with plenty of seating and a covered area. My husband a burger and tots and ate every bit of it. I had the steak tips served over grilled onions and a baked potato. The sauce the steak tips were cooked in was very good, sweet and tangy and the meat was cooked just the way I asked. This was a great experience during our stay here in Wall, S. Dakota.

Local beer choice after first two picks weren't available

Not to many places in Wall so this might be ok in comparison to other spots nearby but no way I'd put it up against other places I've eaten at. The location has inside and outside seating. We were seated right away but a wait started right after us at around 5:45 on a weekday. Ordered a local beer out if spearfish and they were out even though it was only cans. Asked for an alternate and they were out of that too. Heard them telling other tables that they were out of certain other canned drinks as well so or I'll drink choices seemed pretty limited. Onto food. We ordered onion petals ( 2.5/5), pulled pork nachos (5/5), sliders (3/5), burger (4/5) and bbq combo (1/5). Ok, I might be a bbq snob but this wasn't it. Brisket and ribs appeared reheated and were greasy. Saw another plate get delivered bd it looked even worse then mine. Please, please, please don't subject yourself to this bbq. All of the other food was kind of hit or miss with some getting rave reviews from people that ordered them to others being a mix of two bland or over/under done. I will say that the service was pretty good. The wait staff was trying their best but you could tell that diners were getting agitated with the speed as the kitchen seem to get really backed up. I heard them tell a party that had been seated to expect to wait 30 to 40 minutes for their food. They do have a salad bar that we didn't take advantage of but I can see how people would add that on if the wait for your entrées is going to be that long. Overall I don't recommend based on the food inconsistency but realize, with so few options, this might be your only choice.

This a cute little stop in Wall! It gives me ol' school restaurant vibes-has a little salad bar and I assume maybe a bar attached to the other end. Our server was very sweet and nice! Our food was good! My only issue was my food was a bit more crispy than i anticipated. Overall it was good home cooked kind of food and we would go back!

Burger and platter with meat

We stopped in Wall, after leaving the Badlands. We had three hungry kids and they wanted brisket. A quick search found this place. The brisket was good. Could have used more seasoning. The 1/3 burger was really good. You could make it how you wanted. Shoestring fries are good if you like skinny fries. The Mac and cheese was really good.

The best place we could find in Wall for vegetarians since it has a decent salad bar.

French dip: Thinly shaved steak, provolone cheese, the bread and OH! - the au jus! All were perfection. Just. Perfect. I had the fries but in hindsight, I should have ordered the mashed taters. Legends Beef: An open faced sammy of beef piled on glorious mounds of mashed taters sitting on pillowy slices of white bread smothered in brown gravy. Y'all, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I'd recommend either sandwich but would INSIST that you try the mashed taters. My ONLY ding is this is a Pepsi house. While I haven't tried it years cuz I am a Gold Peak Snob, the Brisk Sweet tea from the fountain was surprisingly good.

If I could, I would give Powder House 6 out of 5 stars. My wife and I had an amazing time there tonight. Our server was Emily and she was an absolute gem. She suggested all the right meals and we were both blown away by the quality and taste of everything. I went in planning to get a steak, but at Emily's suggestion, I ordered the bacon-wrapped buffalo filet mignon. It was cooked to absolute perfection--every bite was tender and juicy. It ranks among the best steaks I've ever had, so you can take that for what that's worth. My wife had the chicken alfredo and said it was one of the best she's ever had, too. I would highly recommend getting reservations if you plan on coming. This was a meal and experience we will talk about for many years to come. If we ever make it back to the Black Hills, we will most definitely be stopping by.

The ham tasted like cooked in brown sugar and honey which complemented the more savory slightly salty bacon bits. The bacon had a drier texture and more like crumbles vs chopped bacon pieces but worked well with the other ingredients. Mushroom was grilled and added an earthy flavor which balanced the heavier meat ingredients. The side of potatoes was really good, too. It was cut in cubes, lightly coated with some kind of starch and fried. The coating has the flavor of seasoned curly fries. Lightly crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I chose rye from the bread options. The french toast was also yummy; cinnamonny and eggy flavor but without being overly soaked in custard nor soggy. This was a side order for additional cost. The pancakes tasted like it had sweet cream and had a nutty hint of flavor. More dense than fluffy but was good. Reasonable prices for the quality and amount of the food. Staff were nice and friendly. Great ambiance, too. The restaurant has a very cozy homey feel with the country style decor. Windows wrapped around most of the dining area. Plenty of parking. Highly recommend if you're around Keystone South Dakota or nearby area.

They constantly check in on you, and provide a very positive environment, 10/10 service. The interior is fun, they have plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, there are random climbing decor, trinkets, paintings, and it's just a fun atmosphere. We ordered the fish and chips, fried green beans, pub sandwich with smashed potatoes and bread pudding. The fish was perfectly battered, it was crispy, light and the sauce they served with it was perfect. We absolutely loved the fried green beans, they were crispy and tasted amazing with their housemade garlic parmesan and spicy ukranian sauce. The spicy ukranian is a slightly tangy and creamy sauce. The pub sandwich had a good crunch from the citrus slaw, good tang from the pepperoncini and the bread was so soft. They also have 1990 rootbeer and it is amazing. The real star of the show was the bread pudding. I have never really been a fan of bread pudding but this one is a must. It is warm, soft, and just the perfect texture. The top is sugary with a little crunch and topped with whipped cream. They don't put nuts or raisins. I absolutely loved it. Definitely will be back for the amazing service, rootbeer, fried green beans and of course the bread pudding!

We were visiting from North Carolina and celebrating our anniversary, and the entire experience made the evening incredibly memorable. From the moment we arrived, the host team was warm and welcoming. Although we were about 15 minutes early, our table was already prepared--a small detail that showed genuine care and attention. Our wonderful server, Teagahn, was full of smiles and positive energy. She took exceptional care of us throughout the evening and made us feel completely at home. The food was spectacular and far exceeded our expectations. We've experienced everything from hole-in-the-wall gems to high-end restaurants such as Michael Mina, and Skogen ranks very high on our list--honestly, even better than Hell's Kitchen. Every plate placed in front of us was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The lobster salad and lobster bun were delightful starters. Our swordfish and filet were cooked perfectly, with balanced flavors and well-proportioned servings. What elevated the experience even further was watching Skogen's remarkably talented young kitchen team--mostly in their late teens and early twenties--handle a very busy dinner service like seasoned professionals. They were focused and polished, yet still friendly and personable. A special shoutout to Dominic, Teagahn, Rosalinda, Lance, and Joseph, the executive chef and owner. The combination of amazing food, genuine hospitality, and an outstanding team made our anniversary dinner one we will not forget. Our entire experience at Skogen was exceptional. It is highly recommended and absolutely worth planning your visit around!
