On our way home from Hortense/Nahunta, we stopped off in Patterson for an early lunch. It was quiet but getting busy. Atmosphere is laid back, rustic for a roadside restaurant. While I was there lots of people picking up to go orders for Football Saturday- lots of orders of bbq plates, pizzas, and sides heading out for houses of happy fans. We didn't eat inside bc we had our own Dawg in the car but a very fast to- go order secured me with our bag of delicious food! Service with the Biggest smiles! Back and front of the house brought the best hospitality from the time I walked in to the friendly waves and welcome we had leaving from staff in the back. Service can be EVERYTHING and this secured the 5 stars bc it brought the best experience. Thank you. The front cashier was friendly, efficient and professional. She answered all my questions about sauce types and sides. She was so nice to me and other customers who were regulars but made me feel like I was one too. That means a lot to a visitor. Food- winning big time. It isn't fancy but it sure is fancy on taste. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich and chopped chicken with Avants (mayo based bbq) which I was told is a local preference. I loved it. Lots of chicken and a light mix of sauce but not too much. My husband is definitely more of a traditional bbq red but he liked his sandwich. We also got sweet potato fries and regular fries to go. I also ordered a Brunswick stew to go which I know we will LOVE later from our GA Coast mini vacation. Perfect meal. To go was so quick and I am impressed with the amount of meat to bun/sauce ratio. Messy and good. Definitely a 2-3 napkin meal! Overall this was a true winner and not bad when places to stop in mid-georgia can be few and far between. We will mark this one and return for the excellent local BBq options and exceptional service. My first experience with The Red Pepper Grill was at an event they catered at Eagle Station in Patterson. I don't know how they pulled it off but they served roasted oysters, cooked to order steaks, an exceptional salad of fresh mixed greens and the best home made apple pies. It was flawless. We naturally had to try his BBQ and found it to be another flawless experience. The meticulously prepared sides and smoked meats coupled with the humble cabin-like venue made for a wonderful dinner with family. The owner - Ray Moore and his family along with his grill master Stanley Moody exemplify the best in Southern hospitality. We were treated to their savory red pepper spread while we waited on the brisket that was about the most tasty and tender I've ever had (and I've eaten brisket from Texas to Tennessee). If you live within driving distance of this little jewel or you're passing through Patterson, I highly recommend you drop into this little jewel! Best BBQ in the county! We had the brisket with fresh fried okra, battered fries, green beans, slaw, all seasoned to perfection. Their home made sauces are also delicious, I enjoyed the mustard spicy sauce. Portions are quite healthy! I stopped because i saw the smoke coming from the outdoor cooker and glad I did. The BBQ was chopped to a nice consistency, not to fine. There was 3 different sauces to choice from, I had the mustard base- very good. The people were extremely nice! Not just the people who work there but other customers all were wonderful and added to the experience. The large chopped sandwich plenty for a meal. I would have liked to have tried the rids to see if they were as good as the sandwich. Sweat tea and a slice of pound cake and I more than satisfied. read more
