Well there we were driving through Waycrosswhen we spotted a small Soul food site. We decided to pull in and were greeted by the staff. The menu was varied and everything on it was something I wanted to try. I settled for the ribs which had a lot if meat on it. My sides were mac& cheese and green beans. Everything was fresh and tasty. After enjoying the meal I was absolutely full but asked about desserts. I took a piece of pound cake home and fully enjoyed it with a cup of coffee. Will be back. Don't walk here, run and run fast it's that delicious. The food is true home cooking like your mom and grandma made. I ordered the smothered chicken with white rice, green beans and macaroni and cheese. The green beans were cooked perfectly and seasoned so well. The Mac and Cheese was better than mine- so creamy and cheesy. The smothered chicken was tender and the gravy was phenomenal. Even the rice was tender and good. This is a soul food lover's delight! The menu is full of great main dishes with vegetables to choose from for days. The owners were very happy to share their beautiful stories of how the business opened and their love of the food and the people they serve. It's all done with love and you can definitely tell it is true. I can't wait to make another road trip up this way so I can eat here again. Apparently you need to go before church gets out on Sunday or be prepared to stand in line and wait. What a wonderful family establishment!! Food was amazing. We had smothered pork chops with mac&cheese and collards. While we were eating and licking our fingers, Mr.Bernard came out to introduce himself. He is a kind man that loves family and people. He kept bringing us things to try. Their Mac and cheese is to die for. Try the king juice, you will not regret it. It pairs perfectly with the island flavor of the curry chicken. The ambiance may be a little rough around the edges but this mom and pop restaurant will blow you away with the friendly customer service and finger licking food. My husband and I stopped here after passing by so many times and the food was definitely worth a pause in our trip. The owners are sisters who have retired and now they're back working again. I ordered the whiting/shrimp combo for a little over $13; it came with hush puppies and two sides, so I got fried okra and baked beans. The baked beans were so good that I wanted to FaceTime my mom and slap her (joking) It also came with a drink, the drink was amazing, it was fresh made lemonade. Everything but the baked beans were cooked to order, which means you're getting fresh, hot food. The other amazing thing is although they cook to order, you don't wait forever to get your food and the owners are very personable.
