I want to begin by expressing my sincere appreciation for your team; our server, in particular, delivered truly outstanding service. Their attentiveness, warmth, and professionalism were exemplary, contributing significantly to a positive atmosphere and certainly meriting a five-star commendation. However, I must also highlight a considerable disappointment concerning the food. The oyster stew served was, without exaggeration, the most unsatisfactory I have ever encountered. Its consistency was exceedingly thin and watery, akin to diluted milk, and it was entirely devoid of any distinct flavor profile. Furthermore, the oysters themselves regrettably still retained an unappealing sliminess from their shells, indicating they had not been thoroughly cleaned. This dish fell far below expectations. Conversely, the salad bar offered a mostly positive experience. The array of options was generally appealing, and the majority of the ingredients appeared vibrant and fresh. My only reservation was the condition of the lettuce, a significant portion of which exhibited noticeable brown discoloration, suggesting it was no longer at its freshest. This was the nastiest place i have been in in a long time! Fruit flies all over the salad bar, all in our face at the table of about 15 of us, Food came out to 3 people that smelled absolutely rotten like dead carcus on the rd in 100 degree weather. 3 didn't oat for their meals & everyone was disgusted the waitress was terrible along with the service. Not one of us left a tip! How is this place even open?! I will be calling better BBB and health dept. absolutely disgusting & we will NOT be back & will tell others. This place has been packed all weekend while we were in Waycross for church. My husband noticed and we stopped in for dinner. The staff 5+ stars!!!!! I loved it! The salad bar was well stocked and clean. We ordered the prime rib which was ok and the pork chop which was extremely dry. Baked potatoes and a sweet potato soufflé which was unfortunately too sweet. One of the best restaurants in town. Red Lobster came & went. Cedar River Seafood came & went. Captain Joes consistency with good seafood has survived them all. This is Not an oyster bar. It is tasty, fresh, fried or blackened seafood with a plentiful salad bar. The waitresses are experienced servers. Value is there as well. Family, couples, groups, business luncheons all can be accommodated. read more

Our family came here after a funeral. It was arraigned before we got there, so they were all set up for us when we arrived. The place was clean, they were well organized and the staff was very kind to us. It's hard to service a large group, but they did an excellent job. I had a grilled fish and the salad bar. Wow, the fish was really well seasoned and a great portion....and it was served hot! The salad bar was clean, well stocked and fresh. I loved the variety that it offered. One person at my table had fried shrimp and they really looked great. I will get that next time...he said it was very nicely done. Most of the menu is fried, as with any southern seafood place, but they did have other offerings and everyone was very pleased with their meal. Thank you to the staff for a great job. read more

This is definitely a blue collar restaurant--nothing spectacular to see but the food was excellent. I got catfish and my wife got a pile of shrimp (much more than most places). There is a big salad bar with many items that comes automatically with the dinners. Price is about average to other seafood restaurants we have been to recently. The only negative was that the hush puppies were a little overcooked. I would not hesitate to come back if we are ever in the area. read more

So, I finally gave in and quit ordering a dinner at Captain Joe's--the salad bar is just so dang good that I never get to my meal! Love all the different types of salads and those homemade chips are to die for--not to mention the soups that are always delicious. I have ordered stuffed flounder from the menu and it's absolutely great, but I always end up taking it home because the salad bar just can't be passed up!! read more

For starters I loved this place 3 months ago. My wife and i had made this our go to for a quick ,good ,date night. Today however was ,well let's just say subpar. Server didn't complete our order first time. She came to us on the salad bar to het our orders. There was 5 of us. 2 didn't get sides. Waited 15 mins for server to come back only to let us know they didn't have ingredients for 2 orders. So they reorderd. Then another 20 mins go by for only 2 out 5 orders to brought out right. The 2 that didn't get sides. 2 out of 2 steaks wasn't cooked to order. Fried pickles were so greasy you couldn't eat them. Really just a terrible family experience for us. I just had surgery and didn't feel like saying anything so I could remain calm. We tipped our server still. Paid our bill and quietly left without any inconvenience to either side. Well the topping on the cake is ,upon walking to my truck I notice an orange object just on the edge of the parking lot in front of my truck. Really scary to walk out after having family night at ,what we considered a decent place before,and finding a used needle laying in the parking lot. Really disappointed. Probably will never return there. This Really upset my family. The food was below standards. Service mediocre at best. Then the needle. Just horrible. read more

If I could rate this a ZERO I would the service I just received here is just ridiculous. We sat for literally a whole hr and a half waiting for dinner that had not even been put in yet. And no one came to the table after the drinks were delivered to even acknowledge us being there for as long as we were. I would hate to say it was a racial thing but as I looked around everyone else was receiving there food eating and leaving. So that paints a bigger picture of the type of customer service. If you value being acknowledged and not left just sitting around hungry and passed over then I would strongly suggest another option other then this place. read more

I visited the restaurant after the lunch hour so there were probably 5 people there. The blinds and light fixtures were DIRTY and dusty and no worker seemed to mind. The restroom smelled of sewage and the carpet smelled. I guess people go for the food. I ate soup and salad which was delicious. They need to do cleaning maintenance though. read more

Visited Captain Joe's for the first time 2 weeks ago. There was a sign on the door that said they only had fried food available. Okay, since we had not looked at the menu we thought it would be alright. They sat us at a booth that the cushion had a large piece missing and the whole place looked like it could due with a refresh. Bottom line after looking over the menu we ended up leaving to go somewhere else. Will try them again, hopefully soon and when their grill is available. read more

We ate at Capt Joes Seafood in Waycross GA Last Saturday. Our Waitress was Suzanne. To start with both of us had salads from the Salad Bar. Capt Joes has a real nice salad bar but I really wish that they wouldn't put hot plates out for your salad. Here I am trying to Eat cold crab salad on a hot plate which of course means the salad (Crab, chicken, or Pasta) is hot on the bottom. Same thing for my your garden salad. The plates should either be cold or room temp. Not Dishwasher hot. We both had the Fantail Shrimp Dinners with Onion Rings and they were great. I hate Onion Rings that have a 1/4 inch of breading and the ones at Capt Joes were great because they had a very light breading. The shrimp also were great. From the time we sat down till the time we left, If a plate made it to the table, that's where it stayed. Evidently the wait staff, or at least ours, are not required to pickup empty plates. They were not overly busy so the plates didn't stay because she didn't have time to pick them up. read more

Be very careful of you eat here. It used to be wonderful and had the best service in town. Now...sadly, that is not true. The bite sized shrimp I ordered Sunday were not edible. The salad bar, which is normally well stocked and clean, was a mess. They didn't even have salad dressing. The lines were long to wait for a seat and to pay. There were many dirty tables. I assume they are short staffed, which I can forgive; however, it can't be excused when patrons are getting sick after eating there. I was sick Sunday night and Monday and two co-workers ate there recently and said they all got sick as well. I hope they get their issues worked out. read more

The place itself is aged and stereotypically decorated for a seafood restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly and the portions were large. The price was more than fair and there salad bar is extensive but all in all there was nothing outside the ordinary to get me excited to return. read more

I have been to Captain Joes 2 times recently and both time the meals were awful! First was the Alfredo with shrimp. The Alfredo was a glob of past, and terrible. Last night I was there and got the gumbo. I thought who could mess up gumbo right? Well captain Joes did. It was a bowl of vegetable soup with about 1/4 cup of rice in the bottom and tiny shrimp thrown in. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I don't eat seafood, but I still love Captain Joe's! The grilled chicken is moist and well seasoned. The honey mustard will make you want to lick the cup. Their onion rings are handmade too. I especially love to go at lunch when prices are low for some of the same dishes you order at night. The salad bar has always been famous and has unusual stuff like homemade potato chips. read more

Great food and service! We got the seafood platter for two, scallops Alfredo, fried shrimp (small bites portion which was plenty!) and grilled red fish. Every entree was delicious! Each came with a salad bar. Salad bar was fresh, had two soups (one was New England chowder), and desserts. This was our first visit and our friends had been here several times before. Their salad bar is awesome, from salads, soup to desert and always fully stocked. I love their chicken since I don't eat seafood but my husband has tried several items and loves their shrimp.Onion rings are always just perfect and not from a frozen package. Service has always been good and with a smile. They also have an area for large parties for their privacy which keeps the noise level down in the other dinning area. Well I am one of those that tries to think positive about everything. That is why I am here on this page. People for me to write a bad review its because it is needed. It was 10-10-2013 I took my wife out for a night out of the kitchen and she wanted steak. We would have normally went to Cavagnaro's because one, my best friend is the owner and two it is a lot closer to our home. Okay to the point here, the last few times I have been to Captain Joe's their steaks were okay no complaints. Their salad bar was in bad shape. Most of the items on the bar was very bland and some of the stuff was just to old to be on the bar. My wife ordered a steak well done and it came to the table well done. However it was extremely thin and like the everything on the bar it was bland. I ordered a $18.00 new york strip and unlike my wife I like my steak medium rare. I like my steak to bleed when I cut in to it any other way its just not good to me. Well I had three steaks and not one of them was cooked to order. they were way over cooked. I did not eat there I had to get something to eat somewhere else. That awful meal that I refused to eat that my wife only ate half of cost me $22.00 and there was no offer from the staff to try to make it right. I cant tell you the readers where to eat or where not to eat but I can tell you I will never step foot in Captain Joe's again read more

We have eaten at Captain Joe's Seafood several times lately. Each time has been a good experience with delicious food at a reasonable price. This may not qualify as a "date night" kind of place. But it does qualify as a solid dining spot where tasty food is served promptly by an experienced and attentive waitstaff. As for the food: They have a well stocked salad and soup bar. Everything has always been fresh and well taken care of as salad bars can get messy and look tired in a hurry. Soups are ok. Salad dressings are standard but are good. Some menu items come with a "side salad" instead of the salad bar. This side salad is a very nice size, is well presented with several toppings and is very good. (Ok. I also like the pewter fish shaped plate.) The entree items selected have always been cooked correctly and served hot. Being in SE Georgia one expects the shrimp and other seafood to be locally sourced when available and taste fresh. It is and it does. My favorite is the fried butterfly shrimp. The breading is light and well seasoned and the shrimp are always fried to perfection. Their French fried onion rings appear to be hand battered and are delicious. The wait staff here has always been outstanding. Genuinely warm and friendly and very good at their job. Even on busy nights our meals have come up in a timely manner and we've not lacked at any time for quiet attention to be sure all was well. Putting a small pitcher of the ordered beverage on the table seems to be a small town touch and we love it. We had driven by CaptainJoe's for several years on our way to other local seafood houses. Most of those have closed. There's a reason this restaurant is still open and often has a full parking lot. Don't judge it by some of the other CJ's in nearby towns. This CJ's has it right. read more
