Friends came to stay with us for the weekend and wanted to go to Red Parka, as they have been before and spoke highly of it. We were concerned because of the holiday weekend; we would have to wait, but there was no waiting today. Just walked in. My friends who grew up here were surprised by the small crowd, as this was a popular hangout for them. Turns out the Red Parka has new owners, and it appears the neighbors /locals are not happy. My friend was hoping for a steak. Apparently, that was a hot ticket item in the past. The staff was very professional and attentive. And the menu was above average. Though there was not a crowd, the food did take a bit of time, but we were catching up with our friends and it was fine. When the food came out, most of our dishes arrived on silver trays, which seemed odd. My friend was a bit taken aback by the changes. I guess Red Parka was more of a nice dinner option for people with plates and napkins. One of our party had salmon, so it was served a bit more formally, and overall they enjoyed it. My drink was actually quite good, but I was not sure about the margherita chicken tacos. They have a lot of seating indoors and a patio outdoors. They also have a bar area and provide live music. New menu alert! I was sad to see some of the favorites we've come to know be gone! This used to be more of a true steak house - but it's evolved a bit. The service was fine - not over the top - but it was Friday night....i love the atmosphere here - so I will come back and hope maybe they upgraded the food a bit. The chicken pot pie was weird with a sourdough bread bowl - the steak frites seemed like frozen fries and the siracha sauce didn't do much for the dish....i enjoyed my steak tip dinner though! So hoping this is just new menu kinks! We will definitely stop back in next time! read more

Have been going here for 20+ years and this is the first time I was highly disappointed. Been a long day of chores and got out later than expected. Went here due to proximity and long standing go to place to relax. Sunday night and pretty quiet which was nice. Sat at the bar and had an awesome bartender. Wife ordered a salad with Salmon and I had the chicken fried steak. Got told 15 minutes later that they had no lettuce. And could do salmon and vegetables. Opted not to given veg are frozen and do not heat/cook well. Chicken fried steak tasted like it was a frozen dinner type. Not good. Since Terri sold it, the new owners have made regrettable changes. 1) Cut the hours of operation. I go by daily and the parking lot is virtually empty. This used to be THE place to go in the valley. 2) They.got rid of the salad bar. 3) Raised prices 4) Changed the menu 5) They took down the ski videos. Food was awful. We went to the Red Parker every year until shortly before Covid. We went two years ago and were saddened to see it had changed so much. This year was terrible. The menu has changed again and they don't even have a normal steak on the menu. Everything is marinated in hoisin sauce. One of us ordered the steak tips spud skins which was really just French fries smashed together to give the appearance of potato skins. The steak tips were raw and inedible. Everyone said their meal was terrible. The poor waitress was working hard as there was no help. It wasn't that crowded and it took ONE HOUR to get our meals. The waitress stated they didn't have any kitchen help either. It's truly sad that the newer owners have run this establishment into the ground and couldn't care less about the food they serving. Like many of the reviews here we are long time red Parka customers and have loved it... sadly the very Ill conceived menu changes have made dining at the "new" RPP disappointing... definitely some odd new items which have been mentioned in other reviews and the lack of a basic grilled burger or steak aren't sparking joy...but a great band on Friday night and familiar faces on the serving side like Marra made it worthwhile staying. I understand change is not always easily embraced, but this is change for the worse. Not sure what's driving the odd menu choices...cost, or just trying to do new things. We began going to the Red Parka in the 1970's with our kids. Now it's just my wife and me. During a one week stay ib Glen we typically went to the RP twice. This year we looked at the menu and walked out with apologies to the server. The food combinations were bizarre. Craziest was meatloaf with ground chicken, cheddar, and ham. Yummy food but they were so busy they forgot one of our food main dish orders. A bit of a wait for dinner. My fish and potatoes were standard and fresh. My friends and I came here Saturday night to celebrate our Birthdays, there was a line, I think we waited 45 minutes to get in, we did not order food but we did get a few drinks and they had a live band playing and we had SO much fun dancing! First- we couldn't sit outside at tables for 6 even though they never sat any parties that big while we were there. Serves them right- another couple simply left. Second- the prime rib was fat and not at all a good piece of meat. The scallops were ok, as were the veggies BUT ITS A STEAKHOUSE! Def not recommended. As to the owners comment: yes, she asked me but not my husband. And, another couple after us asked to sit outside and wanted to move outside after a table was open. So the apparently this was sold two weeks ago. I have to say our meals were great (salmon, steak tips and prime rib). We walked over to the pub for some music and drink and I have to say the servers were HORRIBLE!! She has been rude, greets us with "what do you want" (I guess we bothered her from texting on her phone) and then when she brought the espresso martini's they tasted like watered down coffee and we ask for a new drink since these where undrinkable and her reason was different bartenders made them which is inexcusable. Had to go up to the bar to try to get new drinks to then have cosmos made that again undrinkable. Just horrible and this new owner needs to really reevaluate the staff. We've been coming here on vacations for over 30 years and this place is a staple in the area. I wish I could give it a higher rating. Open very limited hours during the winter which isn't the restaurant's fault but food isn't all that great. Ribs were average and the salad was fine. The mud pie is the biggest attraction here (like a few other restaurants in the area) and is worth coming just for that. It was pretty empty on a weekday evening in winter. Can't believe I'm writing my first Yelp review on this particular restaurant. It had been a few years since I'd been there for dinner. Wait person told me there is a new owner. Everything changed. They had an 8 ounce steak and tips available. Place used to be known for their steaks and prime rib. We didn't order appetizers. After ordering, the order of tips with mashed and vegetables came just like warm. My friend ordered a cheese steak sub. What he got was some mediocre steak on a greasy sponge of a roll. I ate the tips and stopped. He ate 1/3 of his steak but the bread was inedible. I've boasted about this place since my high school days in the 80s. The best barbecue I've had anywhere since Texas in 2017. The Trifecta is a great way to sample the ribs pulled pork and brisket. Wow! Amazing food and above and beyond service!!!! I ordered the Prime Rib (Fri and Sat special) and my boyfriend ordered the NY sirloin. Our waiter- I didn't catch his name and he wasn't wearing a name tag- made sure to check that the prime rib would be cooked to my liking before finalizing my order. As a person who likes rare red meat- this is always super appreciated! When our meals came out the waiter explained that the kitchen had accidentally cooked the same sides as my boyfriend for me and he brought out the veggies I had ordered on a small dish. I really liked that he had already noticed and fixed the problem before bringing my food to the table! I have never had that happen in a restaurant and I was impressed! The meal was perfection- I ate everything except the plain potato which was the extra side brought to me by mistake. My favorite side was the baked potato with the cheese and spices mixed in. WOW. I will be experimenting in my own kitchen to try to recreate that amazing side!!!!! At the end of the meal my boyfriend found a small piece of plastic in his potato's - since we've both worked in the restaurant business we both know things like this happen sometimes. We alerted our waiter so that he could let the staff know. We were again so impressed at his quick remedy and hospitality. He took our drinks off the tab ( just sodas), informed us of how the issue happened, and apologized on behalf of the restaurant. The waiter then brought us our check- but surprise! We wanted desert! He put in our order for two brownie sundaes and offered them on the house to continue to remedy the error in the potatoes. The deserts were AMAZING! Brownie sundae perfection! I will definitely be returning to this restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was the most excellent service I have had in a restaurant probably ever. Much to my disappointment I was in between 2 and 3 stars as of my last trip here. I had been before a year ago and while it was outstanding, it was good. However, my trip here this weekend was not ideal. After a 40 minute wait (which is not a big deal because it was a busy weekend night) we got sat in an almost empty dining room and proceeded to wait another almost 20 minutes for anyone to stop by. I am understanding of a lack of staff or busy night but it was like we were being avoided like the plague. Despite this, we got our drinks and they were delicious, the Winter Evening, especially. This was about the highlight of the night, the Caesar salad was lacking and the mozzarella sticks were microwaved and still cold. The pulled pork sandwich was fine, edible but lacking in any flavor.
