My family and I had a very disappointing experience at Beef & Ski in North Conway, NH, on June 27. Our party included my husband, my son, my 83-year-old mother, and me. While my husband and son were still eating their meal, our waitress came to our table and told us we needed to leave because another party was waiting for our table. At first, I honestly thought she was joking. However, her serious expression made it clear that she was not. I explained that my husband and son were still eating and that we would leave as soon as they had finished. A few minutes later, she returned and again told us we needed to leave for the same reason. This time, she spoke louder, making the announcement noticeable to those around us. At that point, my son was literally finishing the last of his French fries. Being asked twice, and in a way that drew attention from other diners, was embarrassing and made us feel rushed and unwelcome. We left before we were ready because we no longer felt comfortable staying. As we got up to leave, the party of five waiting for our table asked how everything was. Trying to lighten the situation, we jokingly replied, "You'd better eat fast or you'll be asked to leave before you're finished, just like we were." It was only after the manager saw the waiting customers listening to our conversation that she approached us to apologize, explaining that the waitress was new. While I understand that the waitress was new, she was simply carrying out instructions she had been given. The decision to ask paying customers to leave before they had finished their meal was a management decision, not hers. I found it disappointing that the situation was explained as an issue with a new employee rather than an acknowledgment that the direction itself was inappropriate. Customers should not be assumed to overlook where responsibility truly lies. I understand that restaurants get busy and that table turnover is important. However, customers should never be pressured to leave before they have finished the meal they paid for. I appreciated the apology, but I was disappointed that it came only after other customers became aware of what had happened. This was our first time dining at Beef & Ski, and unfortunately, it will be our last. No customer should leave a restaurant feeling embarrassed or rushed while still enjoying the meal they came to have. read more

My wife and I were 2nd time customers today and like the first time, were very happy with everything. We sat outside in the warm sun and were served by two very pleasant and efficient servers. I had one of the bigger roast beef sandwiches while my wife had a roast beef wrap. Both were terrific, as were the onion rings we shared. They weren't "cheap" but the size and quality made up for the priciness, in my opinion. If we lived locally we'd definitely be regulars! Also, kudos for being dog friendly! While the prices were very low the food quality was reflective of that. My friend and I both got the turkey wrap which was good but the tortilla chips that came with the dish were stale. We let the server know so she brought us some more of the same, stale chips. My friend ended up ordering fries which seemed like they were stale and had been refried. My husband got the turkey and gravy which was pretty good since there was real turkey breast on the white bread. The dish came with fries. The French dip was less than satisfactory due to the dry, bland beef. Our other friend had an order of chicken wings but they were the freezer to fryer type with the gooey breading on them. He also had the mountain burger which was ok. Server was attentive. Interior was decorated with ski related decor which was pleasant to see. We don't think we will return. read more

So while I was in North Conway My dad was talking to me about some food places. Somehow it came up that the guy who owned this place or who owns it was from the same city that I'm from. So we decided to check it out because if anyone knows roast beef it's definitely people in Massachusetts. We ordered two Junior roast beefs and chicken wings. I will say the chicken wings are very good. The only thing I wish is that they had like sweet and sour sauce in like the packet. The roast beef was very good as well. I would definitely be back. The staff is friendly and attentive to your needs. A groom assortment of beers and a great menu. I went with the crispy tacos with checking and a Tuckerman's Pale ale. Perfect for my 7 mile hike. We were very happy to have found this restaurant, right on the main drag of North Conway. The outdoor courtyard seating was lovely on a Sunday evening. We also felt lucky to get a table for two so quick. I would note that others, including young families, had some pretty lengthy waits for seats. I enjoyed an open faced roast beef sandwich. The toasted bread was a bit burnt but the layers of beef and gravy really covered up any lingering issues. It was very tasty. The onion rings were some of the best I've enjoyed in a long time. The onions were very fresh and thin. Our waiter did not really understand the definition of "darker beer" offering me an IPA, but he was young so maybe he just didn't understand the different styles of beer. We stopped here for lunch, with a party of 5. As others have said, the food was barely mediocre. The chicken wings are served fried, and unseasoned, with no sauce. You are given a small to go cup of sauce to dip them in. The $11 Margueritas were weak, made with cheap liquor, and served in a beer glass. The fish was obviously frozen, and rubbery. The onion rings tasted just like the fish. The pulled pork was more chunky than pulled, and lacked any real flavor. Our half hour lunch took an hour, because two of us spent 30 minutes in the restroom, immediately after eating. I think that this place has outlived it's useful lifetime. read more

Beef & Ski officially opened over the weekend in North Conway Village in the former Crepes Ooh La La/Mountain Dawg Cafe space. Beef & Ski is back in town and started in business back in 1976 in North Conway with other locations open in Maine. This cozy space was nicely redone has a takeout counter with overhead menu boards, indoor table seating, and a small bar area in the back of the dining room. In nicer weather, there is outside patio seating in front of the restaurant. The menu features sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and dinner plates including roast beef, turkey, chicken, longhorn steak, prime rib, French dip au jus, BBQ ribs, fried seafood (clams, shrimp, scallops, haddock), sides, salads, and small baked goods. The prices seem reasonable for the area, sandwiches $3.95-$7.95, most specialties & seafood boats (with one side) $7.95-$9.95, and seafood dinners (choice of fries, rings, or slaw and baked potato) $11.95-$19.95. After skiing at Cranmore, I decided to stop at the new Beef & Ski dinner takeout before heading home. I scanned over the menu and made a decision to order the Grand Opening Special, which was an Opened Faced Roast Beef Sandwich with Baked Potato and Salad ($8.95). I was able to substitute the baked potato for onion rings. The food was packed and ready to go in under 10 minutes, service with a smile! Though the presentation wasn't fancy and the portion was just right for a light dinner, the food I had was decent, but quite tasty overall. The opened faced roast beef sandwich was normal size, which had a good amount of moist soft pieces of tender lean medium roast beef on top of a long slice of French bread, hot gravy on the side. The handmade onion rings were crispy with sweet onions with some coating falling off, very good. The side salad on the same plate was very very small and a few bites, dressing on the side. After looking at the menu again, I will be sure to try the opened-faced prime rib sandwich on a future visit to Beef & Ski. read more

We arrived at 10:00 am, but they didn't open til 10:30, we were deciding what to do when they had us come in to sit down. they took our order and we were eating well before opening time. During a family trip we were looking for something to feed the kids and ourselves, and we looked at the conveniently placed menu on the sidewalk... I whipped out my phone fired up yelp and I was amazed at the high rating. we were seated quickly by a very pleasant woman who put tables together for 2 adults and 3 children. drink orders were taken and it was easy to see there was a regular crowd who frequent and the friendly banter between the staff and them was fun to witnesses. But you would think that might have interfered with the service...nope.. the entire staff while being pleasant with customers and each other move and communicate with a sense of urgency to please all customers regulars and newcomers alike. The food was extremely good and edible.. I regret not getting the open face roast beef..I saw many go by and vowed the next time I go to this place I will be trying that... My husbands French dip was cold and lousy (basically dried roast beef on a dry roll with no sauce and watery au jus). We ordered nachos and they were cold and poorly made (like someone just grabbed taco meat and some shredded cheese which was barely melted). My nieces hot dog had a HAIR on it. Very unsanitary kitchen and bathroom and my husband has worked in restaurants for years and hasn't seen anything like this. So we did not have good experience on 8/5/2020. I had stepped in away after we were seated for a phone call and so the other 2 I was with ordered drinks. I came back a few minutes later waited for waitress. She finally came and took drink order. We waited a few minutes and she came back and took order. We waited 10 minutes or so and I still had no drink. So I got up and asked the hostess if he could get my drink. As I was doing that the waitress brought our food. She was pissed it seemed that I would ask for my drink. She finally brought it. At that point she had to be asked for refills. We had to ask for a box and our check. It was NOT busy so no reason for poor service and food was barely edible. Will not be going back. And there was a dog that was 2 tables away that kept barking and not very well trained.
