This pizza is so good that I basically was inspired to write a Yelp review halfway through my eating. I got the Alsatian, which has caramelized onions, bacon, and gruyere. The crust is like... chewy, but not in a bad way - in an amazing way. It was perfectly between chewy and crispy. The owner, Justin, cooks it in a wood oven from Italy. A recent find, but I'm already head over heels. These guys haul around a real brick oven on the back of their truck. They set up this thing every time they touch down in an office park or brewery. That's real love for pizza, guys. Real love. And their adoration for the craft shines through in their very demeanor. One of the owners was genuinely psyched to find out we drooled buckets over our meal, and waxed philosophic about being able to connect to customers better when not hidden in a kitchen. Anyway. Let me talk a little bit about the food. Their thing is that they make a real, Neopolitan-style pizza right in front of you, from stretching the dough, to dressing it, to baking it, and slamming it in your face. It's a treat to see, and takes only 7-10 minutes even when they're busy. It's simple food, with great ingredients. They are clearly focused on the pizza, service, and little else: they carry maybe three drinks (water, Coke, and real Aranciata in the little bottles), and the iPad they use to process credit cards is covered in flour. It pays off, because the pizza is really, really fresh, crispy, flavorful, and good. They sprinkle little salt crystals on the crust, and they pile salumi and prosciutto onto their Parma pizza. "How on earth do these guys stay in business," said I to my boyfriend, "when they're sticking $7 worth of prosciutto on a $10 pizza?!" Honestly, I have no idea. Love this food "truck"! Caught them a couple of times in North County, and once at Green Flash Brewery. If you ever see them around, it is a must try! The pizza is super thin and super tasty! Really high quality ingredients make for a delicious pizza. I think my only complaint would be that because the pizzas are so light you can't really share one, so that makes for a more pricey meal! Totally worth it, but just wouldn't go here every day for lunch. :) The jalapeno poppers are also really delicious, but one time I got them and they were spicy but palatable, and the second time they were SO SPICY I couldn't even eat a whole one. Red Oven has come to the apartment community I live at a couple of times and I feel like the pizza just gets better and better! Even just a plain ol' pepperoni pizza is just delicious. Some places have a crust that's too thick (sorry, Chicago) and some too thin. This pizza is just the perfect combination of crispy and chewy. You can truly taste the freshness of the ingredients they are using. So I think I have made the point that the pizza alone is reason enough to give Red Oven a try, but I can't leave a review for them and not make mention of the wonderful people who are putting out these mouthwatering creations! The guys who work the ovens are just amazing. They have the ability to make you feel like you've known them forever. You're just there chatting it up and before you know it, your dinner is ready. We were thrilled to see Red Oven at the Solana Beach farmer's market yesterday! Definitely wasnt expecting to see them, but so glad they will be there every Sunday because their pizza is the BOMB! We sampled the Margherita pizza and it was amazing. From the crispy crust to the fresh mozz, basil and tomato sauce, we were in heaven! Pizza perfection to say the least. The argula/proscuitto pizza is next on the list to try! So not only is the pizza very well crafted using fresh ingredients, I also believe that the passion/ inspiration behind the business owner is very important. Unprofessional. Never answered their phones and when I had scheduled phone meeting with them they never called me. When you're paying money for a service you'd think an establishment would have no problem making their customer feeling comfortable and confident with choosing them, I had to back out of contract a few months before my wedding because the lady that was suppose to be "helping me" never communicated. Turns out they are booked on our day 2 weeks after we paid a deposit, booked them for the day, and after we have spent the time chosing our menu. Ever since I visited northern Italy several years ago, I've become super picky about pizzas I consider worth eating. Red Oven Pizza is definitely on my list of worthy pizza makers! You get to see the raw dough that Justin kneads himself and all the fresh ingredients that go into these pizzas out in the open. You taste real olive oil and see the light flour on the crust; always the sign of a genuine pizza in my book. Having myself lived in Europe for 5 years, travelling to Italy numerous times, I am blown away with the authenticity of Justin's work. His pizza margherita will transport you back to Naples- so incredibly authentic. His Alsatian (or 'Flammenkueche' as I knew it) will whisk you to Strasbourg...the only place where I've had Alsatian as good as his. They are legit, authentic, the real deal. Red Oven has been coming to my apartment complex now and then and they seem to have a weekly gig now because of high demand. There always seems to be 10 or so people waiting for their pies to come out of their magical mobile creator of delicious. Before this I have had their pizza at a brewery tasting room in San Marcos. The pies are delicious - authentic thin crust Italian pies with great ingredients. I love the Diavolo, and the Margherita is also a winner. Red Oven Pizza is a perfect example of the love and passion that goes into a venture of this kind. Justin the owner brings an Old World Craft to your backyard. This is perfect pizza in every way! The Crust is light and full of flavor, he uses only the finest ingredients and somehow magically pulls it all together into pure gold. I imagine this is what it's like in Italy. Red Oven was a my kid's school family night and catering to a big crowd. I had low expectations, for a pizza place that's towed from place to place. Boy 'oh boy was I blown away. This was the best pizza I've had in a long time. The dough is pure bliss. Chewy with a great crisp to it, from the insanely hot wood fire. I ordered two pizzas, and one had a little more char on it then the chef would like. I explained that that was totally fine with me, since I like the charred flavor. The chef insisted on making me another one, and then searched for me on the school playground. Incredible service and pride in their product. I wanted to hire Red Oven to cater my wedding..but after several communications we were unable to get on the same page.

The pizza was tiny for $13. There was almost no cheese and a heavy glop of sauce on one side. When you look at the pizza in the pictures already posted, yes, those are $13. So, so, so good! Pizza was amazing! I ordered the Alsatian pizza (creme fraiche, bacon, onions, gruyere, thyme) for $10 and the quality was awesome. The dough was so good my husband asked the guy who helped us (great customer service btw) the recipe for the dough. He gave us the info on where to purchase the flour to make the dough that's imported from Italy. I also had the bacon wrapped jalepenos. They were a little too spicy for me since there wasn't that much cream cheese. Overall- definitely 5 star pizza and service! read more

Got on this pizza kick and wanted to try pizza places all over san diego...and I found one of my faves... Parma and Alsatian pizzas are amazing! The mobile pizza oven makes a mean pizza...some of the best in the US to rival the pizza I had in Italy. The Parma with the prosciutto is amazing! Absolutely my favorite of all the 3 types of pizza. " Delicious Artisan Pizza " My wife and I went to the San Diego Opera's opening night play "Great Scott " at the San Diego Civic Theater last week and had a great time. Before the play started, outside in front of the Theater, the area was set up with many different food vendors, cocktail bars, and entertainment. One of the food vendors set up under in a portable canopy was Red Oven Artisanal Pizza. This was a very unusual type food vendor to me, than your normal hot dogs and hamburger type, and we were very interested in what Red Oven was making for people in there portable little Pizza Oven. I went over and asked the chef who was making the different type of Pizza's , who happened to be Justin Burlingame, the founder of the Red Oven Pizza, Catering, and Food Truck business, based in Carlsbad California. Justin and his 3 person crew were so nice, as they worked so hard and fast to prepare the many types of Artisan Pizza's for the patrons standing in line. The Pizza came in two different sizes of 6 and 11 inch, and could easily be split between two people. Oh yeah, the Pizza with all the fresh ingredients, and yummy healthy crispy crust, was very DELICIOUS ! After our experience at the theater, we will definitely be checking out the Red Oven when we see them at other venues around San Diego, for another yummy meal. read more

Best possible choice for a rehearsal dinner! Our guests could not say enough about how amazing the appetizers and pizza were, or how friendly the staff was. This crust is my favorite. Red Oven Pizza Truck came to my work's parking lot. Two guys making pizzas, fast! It was fun to watch. I ordered a basic mushroom and arugula pizza. They even put on real, fresh mozzarella which you don't see all of the time. The oven is so hot, the pizza cooks in less than two minutes. It's personal/sharable size, I definitely ate the whole pizza to myself. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the sauce. The sauce is one of my favorite ingredients. The sauce was bland and really needed something to spice it up. I think maybe they forgot to add garlic that day. read more

Had the Chef special pizza at the UTC farmers market. I was pretty surprised to see an actual oven in the food stand, it's quite cool. I don't remember everything in the pizza but there was lots of feta cheese (I think?) Anyways, I loved the thin and chewy crust. It was so tasty and had more flavors than the toppings. The pizzas are made on the spot so there is a bit of a long wait. But you can leave your phone number and they'll text you when it's ready.
