Assuming they were short-staffed even though there were 3 people at the host station? Waiter did not know the menu. Party of 4 and none of our orders were correct. 2 sides missing, lobster tail missing, overcooked steak, cold soup, and accidentally cooked a speciality version of a standard dish that would have cost about $10 more had the manager not corrected the error. Why I Normally Avoid Red Lobster Like The Plague: 1. In my home corner of NJ, Red Lobster gives bad service a bad name. Wait staff loaded with attitude, orders not sent to the kitchen correctly (if at all), service taking forever, food baking way too long under heat lamps while servers are singing, dancing, etc. You get the idea, I'm sure. 2. Red Lobster has an uncanny, and unfailing, ability to translate appealing advertising narratives, desirable ingredients and an implied New England coastal vibe into poorly seasoned and unsatisfying mediocrity. It takes a special talent to reduce the succulence of a lobster tail to something resembling a boiled paper towel. 3. Although the plates are loaded, their bulk consists of comically undersized crustaceans and plate garnishes; poor price-value. Why The Amarillo Location Has Seen Me Twice in Recent Weeks: 1. My onsite client work downtown has kept me moving all day, sometimes from 7:30am to 9:00pm. Perhaps being worn-out impeded my judgment . . . twice. More likely is that the Red Lobster is one of the few highway restaurants open until 10:00, and with a perceivable pulse after 9:00. That's it; just one real reason. Why, Just Maybe, The Amarillo Red Lobster Is A Step Above: 1. To my sheer amazement, service was not just "good," it was very good. Respectful, accurate, emotionally engaged, friendly, prompt . . . all of the things that are rarely experienced locally. I swear that I was stone-cold sober, but at times I almost sensed that I was being served by professionals. 2. Perhaps because I wasn't thoroughly antagonized by the time my entrée arrived, the food tasted much better. 3. I wasn't being rushed out the door at 9:50, nor were vacuum cleaners nipping at my heels and creating a disturbing racket. Everyone was smiles and friendliness, even at 9:58. A three-star Yelp review for a Red Lobster is certain to subject me to a sanity check from my wife and friends, but in the case of the Amarillo location, the 1-2 extra stars are deserved. Emboldened by my first few doses of respect for this venerable chain, I even thought about breaking a multi-decade boycott (most of the same reasons) of the Olive Garden property next door . . . it didn't happen. read more

Stopped here after a long day of travel. Immediately greeted by staff and directed where to go for take out. They were having slight computer difficulties and while a few of them worked on it, one guy sat and had a nice little convo with me. Staff was incredibly friendly. Food was delicious. They made sure that I had extra dressing, butter, and rolls as requested. Everything was packaged very nicely to go. So, I ended up stopping here to have a quick dinner after I trained. I ended up getting seated at the bar and decided that I would rather just take my meal back to the hotel and enjoy it there. I was checking out some of the comments on yelp, and I get a little nervous with some of the bad reviews that I read about this place. I don't know if I was one of the lucky ones, or if maybe those other folks just had an off day with the staff. My meal took about 15 minutes and the bartender was very friendly and offered me a drink while I waited. He received the order and packed everything in the bag for me verifying all of my purchases and I was out the door. We ate here about a week ago and yes, they still have the amazing biscuits and crab legs, but the rest of the food was not great (especially the sides- ick!!). Only reason we ate here was that it was next door to the motel that we were staying. Considering it was a Saturday night, a 25 minute wait was to be expected. After being seated, we ordered. Red Lobster - 7:30pm - 10.10.15 My boyfriend's birthday is tomorrow, so tonight his grandparents took us out to dinner at Red Lobster, which was SO sweet of them. We arrived right at 7:30 and though the (precious) hostess quoted a 10-15 minute wait, we were seated in less than 5. Our server took drink orders right away and she gave us about 10 minutes to look over the menu, then she came back and took our orders. The cheddar bay biscuits were hot and delicious as always! That was the best part of my meal. The grandparents ordered the Ultimate Feast, which they shared. I had the Crab Cakes appetizer as my meal (had a late lunch and I wasn't too hungry) and Trav had the Fish & Chips. The dinner salads came out almost right away - I have to admit that their honey mustard dressing is quite good, I don't normally enjoy honey mustard but this version had a kick. After the salads were served the service really lagged. I wasn't in a hurry, but the grandparents were getting rather impatient. When the food DID come out, the food runner didn't bring out the grandparents' baked potato (he said they were baking fresh ones off and he would bring it right out) and the potato didn't show up until we were all more than halfway finished eating. Trav's fish was meh.... The filet itself seemed almost waterlogged or something, it was strangely TOO juicy, to the point that the breading had lost most of its crispness. It tasted okay otherwise. The "chips" were bland and fairly standard. My crab cakes - first off, for the $13 price tag, I really expected the portion to be a bit more generous... I was served two cakes about the size of one of those frozen breakfast sausage patties which probably didn't amount to more than 5oz total product. Secondly, I would assume for being a SEAFOOD establishment that their crab cakes should be outstanding. No. They were bland and the fishy flavor was much stronger than what I am used to, so I had to drown them in the aioli served alongside. And that brings me to the "Meyer Lemon Aioli". Sounds delicious, right? I'm not even sure if it was the correct condiment because it didn't taste much like lemon at all, it was salty, creamy and heavy on the garlic - which I don't mind, but that's not how I had imagined a Meyer Lemon Aioli would taste. These crab cakes were by no means "bad" nor were they worth complaining over (especially since the grandparents were already giving the staff "feedback" about slow service) but I definitely won't order them again. We don't really eat at Red Lobster on our own, the grandparents typically pick it for when we have dinner with them.... So I'm not sure if this was an off night or if I just don't care for the food. Either way, Red Lobster won't be on the top of my "go to" list any time soon. read more

Let's face it...seafood options are limited in Amarillo. Which is unfortunate because I LOVE seafood. People can knock big chain restaurants all they want, but RL is good. The cheddar bay biscuits and the caesar salad are great. Lobster pizza and the Seafood bruschetta are both great apps to start with (or even have for your main dish). I know, I know ... Red Lobster has been kind of a joke. Try them again, folks. New decor, new staff, revamped menu. I've never been a RL fan but it was pretty much the only seafood joint in town. Last night we went back on a whim, and WOW. The place has been scrubbed from stem to stern. New decor. Soft music. Low lighting. Very attentive staff, and impeccably fast service. My clam chowder was the best I've had since leaving Seattle; our oysters on the half-shell were as good as any we've had in Amarillo. Grilled mahi-mahi and stuffed flounder, both cooked to perfection. The prices have gone up a bit but when you factor in the decor, service, and food quality, it was a great trade. Not a cut-offs and t-shirt restaurant any more. This place is clearly not trying to compete with Long John's: it's a seafood restaurant that stands tall on its own. We always enjoy a trip or two to Red Lobster during endless shrimp season...as we've traveled the country we've had good and bad experiences with servers...here in Amarillo we met Matt...he was GREAT!! He was one step ahead of us all night, shrimp kept coming, he brought us different kinds of shrimp to try, anticipated all of our needs, and was comfortable doing the same for his entire section. Next time we go back, I'd call ahead, make sure he's working, and then wait as long as we needed to, to sit in his section. Thanks for the great service!! Did you know red lobster has biscuit bags that keep the biscuits fresh longer? I didn't until we had Eric as a waiter. He was professional and friendly without being pushy or too fake. This used to be one of my favorite places to go for a nice sit down dinner, but sadly they have declined throughout the years. The last couple of times I have gone they have been out of several of their menu items, and this is early in the afternoon, at around 12:30, so they have not been running service for very long. On both occasions we also were not informed of what they were out of when we were seated, if a order is late or they just happen to be out of something when they start the day it is normally policy to inform guests to start with that way they don't choose and are then disappointed. When the food comes out it is normally really good, but the service itself is hit or miss. sometimes we get someone very attentive and others it feels as if we were forgotten about. This is not one of my go tos anymore, and they would need to bump up their customer service and their communication between the kitchen and the waiters to get me back through their doors. read more

I knew that the restaurant had remodeled, so we thought we'd give a try after several years of not eating there. We went in at 9p, and they close at 11p. We were seated immediately and placed a drink order. So far so good. Then we ordered from a perky waiter who seemed to know his stuff. Caesar salads came out undressed. I asked the waiter to bring some on the side, and after five minutes with one promise of "one more minute" he came and told us they were out of dressing. He brought us garden salads that were pathetic. The blew cheese tasted like mayo. The clam chowder was salty and too thick, like old gravy. Cheddar biscuits, however, we're as good as in the past. Probably frozen. The entrees took forever to come out. There was LOTS of yelling going on in the kitchen. During our wait, the wait and bus staff were cleaning dirty tables that had been empty for some time, and walking by with trash sacks and all the booster seats after wiping down. Our waiter popped by and told us it was a busy time of night and the food would be "one more minute," When the food eventually arrived, my shrimp and scallop pasta was so salty I boxed it up after a few bites to take home for my cat. I wasn't going to wait another 30 mins. My husband was still eating his entree when the desserts came out. The check was then brought by before he even took a bite. My boyfriend and I got finished with our errands late and decided to go eat here. They were closing in an hour and still sat us with a smile on their faces. Our waitress, Kaysi, was phenomenal. She was prompt, cheerful, and very considerate of our satisfaction. She is a great example of customer service. This was our second time getting her as our waitress and she wowed us both times. Let's just say she's now the server we will probably request. There is always negative reviews on restaurants and not enough positive. I love their clam chowder, cheddar biscuits and coconut shrimp. I would probably not go if Amarillo had good seafood. But, they don't so this is a little piece of home. The salad is gross though. It always comes with your meal and the new white bowl is deceptive. I was hoping for a revamped salad, but no such luck. It was the same brown ice berg lettuce. I think husband & I have learned our lesson about going to this red lobster. Some of the food was good but most wasn't. We ordered stuffed mushrooms appetizer. The filling was delicious the mushrooms were rubbery. Our meal finally arrived. Hubby ordered surf & turf. The steak although cooked properly was tough as boot leather. His shrimp was tough & rubbery as well. They were the wood fired steak & shrimp skewers. I ordered the feast because I wanted a bite of it all & since it was my 35th wedding anniversary I decided to go for it. The waitress returned once with iced tea refills before the meal arrived. Two different servers brought our appetizer & meal (not unusual). We ate our meal (what we wanted & could) without 1 visit from her.
