My kind of place! Had a huckleberry shake with biscuits & gravy for breakfast and a sassy but friendly waitress. Loved the decor.

This place is funky and unique inside. We stopped for breakfast and couldn't be more delighted. We had the biscuits and gravy and the gravy was out of this world. We also had the Miner's breakfast with eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage and toast. Both were served with a slice of cantaloupe. It was all delicious. The service was fast. This is a place that you should go to for the kitchy experience, not the food. The decor was fun to take in, and I even got a picture in the UFO outside. However, it took us 50 minutes to finally get our breakfast, which was underwhelming and, frankly, not very good. The country gravy was 90% salt and 10% pepper. The huckleberry pancake was a single pancake and nothing at all special. Overall, I'm glad we went for the experience, but once in a lifetime is plenty. read more

Took a friend visiting from Arizona to Wallace and we ate at the Red Light Garage... the burgers were dried out and mediocre at best. Ordered a huckleberry shake and it tasted like a vanilla ice cream. First time ever that I have had a huckleberry shake that was white instead of purple but given there was a total of 2 huckleberries it would be difficult to convey the huckleberry flavor! I mentioned to the server that we were not able to taste any huckleberry flavor and she just shrugged her shoulders. I will skip the Red Light Garage in the future! read more

Fun place to stop for a meal or a snack along the I-90 corridor. The huckleberry milkshake is a definite winner! My chocolate milkshake was less exciting... especially because it was an inch short of filling the cup, and I watched the guy bury a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the cup to fill it up. Shabby milkshake making, dude! Stick with the huckleberries and don't stop if you're in a hurry - there is plenty of funky decor to admire while you're waiting for your meal or milkshakes. We've had milkshakes all over America and they don't get any better than this. On our first visit we had huckleberry milkshakes, a Must if you're in Idaho. The second time, we had the chocolate milkshake. OMG, fabulous! The people are just as nice as can be, the service is great and the whole place is a Wallace institution not to be missed. Why aren't there any decent coffee houses in Idaho? We came here because it was the only place that said it had espresso, but the service was....laughable actually. The girl who took out order had no idea about the coffee drinks (ie do you have soy milk, or a particular kind of syrup) and we ended up getting waited on by 3 different people for a cup of tea and a 20 oz mocha - which incidentally only comes with one shot of espresso! The atmosphere was very personal and casual and the decor is neat. I would never come here and think for sure I could get a table and then actually get waited on. That might be a bit much to expect from the Red Light Garage. read more

We stopped here on our way back to Montana and it was disgusting! Luckily I used the restroom before ordering. Come to find out, the hot water handle in both bathrooms (men and women's) was broken. Cold water only. How do employees wash their hands thoroughly after using the restroom I only got a huckleberry milkshake, that is what received the single star. My partner had chicken strips because everything else he wanted, they were out of. Chicken strips came with extras, hair! Breakfast in Wallace at the Red Light Garage was really fun. The regulars in the restaurant we very friendly with the out-a-towners, lots of open friendly conversations between guests, how cool it that? The restaurant is actually an antique store that serves food. So, you treasure hunters out there need to put this place on your bucket list. Oh, I almost forget the food and service we fine. Jaimie Baker & his kitchen staff run a down home joint and Jaimie seemingly is the local historian, all in all an authority with photos & artifacts to back it all up! Plus he has a spaceship from the former Ruby Street Antiques. We sat in it and Jaimie even took the picture. Be sure to take a stretch in the claw foot couch at the deck entrance-- so comfy I coulda' napped... i will be stopping into this lovely hamlet much more often thanks to meeting Mr Baker. read more

I had the most wonderful breakfast experience that I have had in years. What a great way to start my day. One could not ask for a better dining experience than I had this morning at the Red Light Garage. The owners, Jamie and Barbara welcomed me into their adorable cafe like a long lost friend. I did not want to leave since I was having so much fun talking to them and their daily loyal customers. If I lived here in Wallace I would eat here daily. Had a great lunch. My wife had the bacon cheese burger and I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Both were very good. Chocolate shake was authentic and came when my food arrived so I didn't finish it before eating. Great atmosphere with lots of stuff to look at while waiting. We first tried the Red Light Garage last summer while in Wallace to ride the Hiawatha Trail. It was great--good food, warm and friendly staff, and fun environment. We came back in December and it was even better! This is not just a summer place, but really comes to life with locals in the off-season. We felt like family and it was all just as good as we remembered from August. Worth a stop any time of year! This time, we stayed at the Hercules Inn, also owned by Jamie and Barb. Very reasonable rate and you get a full kitchen and use of laundry facilities and hot tub! We'll be back and soon! read more

Traveling through wallace for the day. Saw the reviews on another website and was a little iffy on going. But we were pleasntly surprised. Good food, both had burgers that were cooked perfectly and tasted excellent. Pretty good price for the food. Wanted to split a milkshake and the waitress was nice enough to put it into two different cups. And it was the best huckleberry milkshake by far! Very fresh and perfectly blended! read more

We parked and headed over to Red Light Garage, just in time to watch the parade from our table and enjoy a quick lunch. We did finish off the lunch with one of the legendary huckleberry shakes. Was on the road and had already made up my mind I was going to see what was good to eat in Wallace. Just kind of drove around a little and saw this place and decided "This is what I'm trying" OMG the burger was so good! Was really surprised at the high quality, tasty, huge burger patty with good cheddar and lots of bacon! The fries were nice and crispy and hot, too! I'm always picky about sauce on my burger so was happy to hear they put nothing on it unless you ask. (it's a lot easier to fix no sauce than the wrong sauce) They had no problem giving me some steak sauce on the side. Was really cool looking around the place while I waited, too. So glad I stopped here and I will be stopping here the next trip through! read more

We were here just to grab some coffee. Had to wait a while, it wasn't to big of a deal, the problem was the coffee, my fiancé got a mocha and it tasted like it was just chocolate milk, I got a chai tea and it was literally just a cup of milk. Go to this place! The owners, Barbara and Jamie, are gems. We came in during a slow time, on a Tuesday night, and ended up hanging out for an hour and a half. The place is fascinating, filled with memorabilia of all sorts. The Mexican bean burrito was yummy, and Barbara's banana, nut, huckleberry bread to die for. But the very best part was Barbara and Jamie. We talked, joked, laughed like old friends. We're going back for breakfast tomorrow. They specialize in burgers. In fact they have 24 burgers on the menu. Our food was fresh and the hamburger patties were hand made, not frozen. The wait staff was very friendly and eager to make sure we were well taken care of. Very cool little place to eat! read more

Great burgers. The burgers we had were huge. The patties were handmade and had a great flavor. I had a huckleberry malt. It was good but not over the rim thick. Very very disappointed in this establishment. My husband and I came for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and walked in to this restaraunt to eat lunch. A few tables were being used at the time. While waiting for a table to be cleaned a girl came up to us and said we are not cooking anymore food today. I can get you a drink but we are not cooking any food. This was a first. We have food, but we are not going to cook, but thanks for coming anyway. Rediculous. This town is very short in wait staff. You'd think with the economy they pack in the jobs. How rude to turn down a paying customer visiting your town. Shame on you, whoever owns this establishment you need to get in the restaraunt and help out. I tried to give this place zero stars but it wouldnt allow. This was a dud and big fat zero. read more
