    Campfires and s'mores

My entire family and I recently went to the Red Horse Mountain Ranch. I expected that there would be a lot of activities. My expectations were vastly exceeded. I can safely say that this was one of the best vacations I've ever experienced. As a family destination this cannot be beaten. There is an activity for everyone in the family no matter what their age. There is an activity for everyone no matter what their skill level. You can't ignore the beautiful setting in the isolated private location. Yet, probably the best feature about the Red Horse Mountain Ranch would be the attention that is given to each individual guest by the excellent staff. The staff obviously knows horses and they know the outdoors. They work hard every day to ensure that each guest has a good experience. We also enjoyed the company of fellow guests who were there for the same period of time. The first Sunday consisted of watching the horses run and a campfire. Monday morning you start with being introduced to horseback riding on a individualized horse selected for your needs. You can take any sort of ride with any sort of difficulty. There are sign up sheets where you can plan activities for the whole week - both together as a family or with special activities meant just for kids. You will not be bored. I have never had a more active vacation. There is every level of horseback riding, adventure course for kids, hot tub, private cabins, swimming, zip line, .22 rifle, sporting clays, fishing, mountain biking, horse shoes, access to archery, kayaking, arts and crafts, live music, karaoke, full open bar, gourmet breakfast lunch and dinner. I really can't think of a better way to spend a vacation. I want to mention that within the first day my kids asked to come back. Thanks to Andi, Justin, Kay, Kelsey, Kyle, Grace, Lilian and everyone else that made the experience so great.

The Ranch runs the horses out to pasture Friday afternoon. An exciting end to a great week!

A fantasy come true. Staff, food, setting, activities, accommodations, they do it all. This was the first time, but not the last.

We loved relaxing at the spa, eating at Beverly's, and renting bikes to ride around the lake. We also hiked around Tubbs Hill and explored so many great local restaurants. It honestly feels like such a magical escape from city life and the perfect destination if you're looking for outdoor activities, nature, and a slower pace to recharge.

My husband and I moved to the Spokane area earlier this year, so we have been excited to get to…read moreknow the surrounding areas. Coeur d' Alene has been on my list as everyone says how great it is. So, a friend flew to visit over the summer and we spent 2 nights at the resort in their North Wing room. Then another friend came to visit this month, so we returned (with a much better experience). Arrival: Both visits were easy and we self parked. Be aware that there is an elevator from the parking garage to the resort and it is not the same one that will bring you to your room. Easy if you don't have a lot of stuff, but one visit I brought my dog and I could have used a luggage cart. So unload up front and then go park. Check in: Very quick. No wait. On the 2nd stay we were allowed to check in early which was nice. Rooms: North Wing- yikes. It does say on the site it is for the "value minded traveler." It shows. Summer is expensive there and since we were going to be outside the majority of the time it wasn't horrible. However, the room is much like a motel with the window facing a walkway. Ours was right next to the elevator. ugh. The inside was just okay. As others have mentioned, it could use updating. My second stay we stayed in the Lake Tower Room with double beds and fireplace and balcony. It was lovely. Nice room, beds comfortable, but the best was the view. Housekeeping: Unfortunately, both stays no one came to service the room. The Lake Tower even had a button to push when you want it serviced. We were out of the room by late morning and had the button turned on. Oh well. When I called, they did offer to service the room but we were tired and wanted to relax. One minor thing is that there is quite the push for tipping. I believe it came in an email and text. Just thought it was tacky. I've never seen that done before. Amenities: Visited the outdoor Blu pool during the summer. It was busy. My friend and I found an area that was "adults only" (not near the pool) and enjoyed the lake more than the kids in the pool crowd. Restaurants: Dined at Beverly's and Dockside. I will write separate reviews for them. All positive and will be back. The pre fixe dinner (early bird) was a great deal at Beverly's! ***Only policy I would suggest a change on is their charge for pet fee. It's one of the highest I've paid (and I've stayed at 5 star resorts) There is a DAILY $75 fee (someone said they cap at $150). I understand a fee is necessary, but I think that is a bit over the top. Our pup is crated (and prefers it) so does not require that deep level of clean other dogs might need. It might be better to have a standard reasonable fee and then charge the owner if the animal's stay requires additional cleaning.

For adults though, it is a bit much with how loud the place is and the lack of care from staff. The furniture in the cabanas is hardly worth sitting on because all of the padding is gone. The key to the lockbox didn't work and there is no privacy. The rooms were a good size but again, the furniture is old and worn out! The room, like other reviews, was not fully cleaned. Loaded dishwasher wasn't ran, gum on a closet wall and toothpick still on the floor. Overall, if I can help it, I will not be returning.

We rented the suite for two nights and then we rented two conjoining rooms for two nights. We also paid for 10 water park tickets. Night one we get into the room and as I unpacked the groceries I noticed the fridge hadn't been cleaned. I was in a hurry so I just wiped it out with the soap and sponge they provided. I got to the table to start setting up the table cloth and found blood all over it. Next I used the bathroom and the trash can under the sink hadn't been changed. We sat down on the couch to hook up our fire stick and found a bra just lying under the corner table. The prices keep going up and up and the quality keeps going down. I am convinced they don't clean rooms. You can't miss blood, a bra, the fridge, and the trash. The waterpark no longer runs tabs. Every single time you want a cocktail you have to track down the member of your group who has the locker key so you can grab your wallet. So for a four day trip you are up and down those stairs to get to the locker non stop. They also don't do shots. So if you want to have a quick shot and then go back to the waterslides ..... you can't. You have sit there and down an entire drink. It was so much better when they ran your card and left it on file for the day. The rules keep growing and the quality is tanking.

However, sadly, worldmark decided to sell or lease the lake access to Gozzer Ranch (owners include celebrities) and worldmark owners and guests can only access the lake via one small spot that is not maintained well. It's a muddy slope and the few lawn chairs are cheapie and covered with bird poop. You really feel like it's the haves and the have nots between the worldmark place and the gozzer ranch lakeside lodge. We aren't allowed on the dock and the former restaurant is now only for gozzer ranch. Celebs buzz up and down between the lake and gozzer ranch in their side-by-sides and they aren't watching for little kids on the road and it's loud. I think it's sad worldmark decided to eliminate literally the only thing to do - why would you go to the lake and not plan to actually use the lake? You are a pretty long drive from anything other than the general store (which is a cute store). The only amenities for recreation is a pretty utilitarian indoor pool and when we've been there it wasn't working most of the time. There is truly nothing to do but stay inside your room - if you want to look at the lake, read a book, sit on the deck - it's great. But worldmark needs to invest in things for its owners to do since it gave the best part away. We used to be able to catch a boat to dinner, have dinner and or drinks in the restaurant, there was a sandy beach - all gone now.

There is an indoor pool, an outdoor pool and a huge hot tub. Also offered is a game room, a great library, a gym and outdoor activities such as shuffle board, volleyball, basketball, frisbee golf, etc. We found trails to walk around to get some outdoor exercise. The lodge is well maintained and very clean; my wife and I very much enjoyed the indoor pool and sauna. Jeff and Tracy were wonderful and took good care of the entire extended family that was there.
