They don't offer day passes, but the man working in the general store explained that we could rent a campsite for the day and stay overnight if we wanted to. The price seemed pretty reasonable, but since we weren't planning to camp, he actually suggested that we drive a little farther down the road to an Idaho Fish and Game access area where we could enjoy the river for free. That kind of honesty and helpfulness made a really good impression on us. He was friendly, answered all our questions, and never seemed bothered by the fact that we weren't actually booking a site. The general store itself is super cute and has a lot of interesting things to browse. The campground also seemed very family-friendly. There were plenty of families staying there, and the whole property felt safe and relaxed.

It appears they have power & water, but no sewer hookups. I suppose you'd have to go off site to dump your tank. That would be inconvenient for us. The lodge itself was quite nice. Our bartender was very friendly & we enjoyed chatting with him for awhile. Drinks were reasonable & the place was clean as a whistle. If we lived closer we'd be proud to be member of this lodge.

As far out as it is, there's not a lot to explore on the campgrounds. To explore you have to go out on the dirt road. They do have ping pong tables & a horseshoe pit. Most of the people staying there had dirt bikes and quads. They'd all be coming and going at times. At night, it was very quiet. They have warm showers, and a clean bathroom (clean for camping standards). To note: It's a fairly long (~9 miles) trek on a dirt road to get to the campground off of I-90. Expect your vehicle to get dirty on the way in/out. There was zero cell service (Verizon). Overall, I would recommend this campground!

Three weeks later, I am still processing the experience, which was unlike any other vacation we've ever been on (far better!) . And everyone in our group felt that way. With ages ranging 9 to 73, it's not easy to find a place that everyone loves, but this place was it. Starting with the staff, every single person working at the ranch wowed us with top shelf friendly, caring, and superb service. We felt so welcomed and well taken care of. The ranch is in a beautiful setting with a peaceful atmosphere perfect for unwinding. The food was fabulous--all we could eat, fresh and homemade, with a variety that made if fun and interesting. We had a couple of picky eaters among the grandchildren, but no worries, there were always options that made even the pickiest of them happy. The adults appreciated the open bar every day, where we could get a beverage and process the day. The activities were varied, with many options but no pressure--each person could choose what they wanted to do every day. The horses are well-trained and paired perfectly with riders according to comfort level and experience, We had three cabins (one for each family) and were more than satisfied. I'd go back to Red Horse Mountain in a heartbeat!

For those who don't ride, then this is less of a five star and more likely a 4+ - still great. First of all the staff are just wonderful. Every single person we encountered was lovely, helpful, and ready to make sure we had whatever we needed. The food is outstanding. For me, having my family around the table 3 times a day and not having to prepare the food or clean up (although we did carry out our dishes to the trays to offload the staff, who work really hard) was the highlight of the week. Mealtimes are not flexible, which turned out to be brilliant, since everyone was then motivated to be in the dining room on time! I have to mention that the kitchen staff deserve many thanks. Donovan, the baker did an outstanding job, as did the chefs and the kitchen manager. The bartenders (Chelsea and Laura) were great also. The wine dinner was excellent. The cabin we stayed in was lovely and spacious. The lodge is great - lots of room. comfortable furniture, a huge deck with beautiful views and lots of chairs and tables. Speaking on behalf of the non-riders, the only disappointment came from thinking there would be many activities as alternatives to horseback riding (the website gave us that impression). Those activities actually turned out to be very carefully scheduled and limited (which is understandable given staffing needs). So if you wanted to go kayaking, you could only do it at specified times; the same with the zip line and other such activities. The pottery painting didn't happen at all because the kiln was broken when we were there. And there was no massage therapist, which some had counted on - again per the website. It's a question of managing expectations. Did we all have a great time regardless - yes, despite the granddaughter who got "eaten alive" by chiggers and is still dealing with the bites weeks later. She did love the horseback riding and the shooting however. One more thing. To fully enjoy this resort it is helpful to be physically fit!! Lots of hills and steep slopes. They do offer shuttle service to any activities for those who can't walk there, and the bar opens at 3pm.

The place isn't fancy-schmancy full of rules and regulations or restrictions....its about YOU enjoying YOUR visit. We were here overnight, got here late (9pm)...and continued our travels back home from Yellowstone to the Puget Sound area. We stayed at a couple KOA's, a Washington State Park, and several days in Yellowstone. THIS PLACE - HANDS DOWN - WAY WAY BETTER!!!! So....what's so great here: Host's....they treat ya like they actually care about your visit.....make sure you have anything you need. The site....functional, accessible, great for our truck & 24' trailer (water & electric)....excellent kept yard at our site, and the central area gazebo was nice. Coffee provided by the host's in the gazebo in the morning :) The facilities: Two huge home style showers with....get this...Too Much Water Pressure.....you have to turn the shower on just a little and enjoy an endless awesome non-water saving home style shower experience (Be sure to keep shower curtain inside the shower please!) Laundry is available....didnt use it, but it's also here How about a free latte or whatever drink you like at the espresso stand on-site!!!!.....yep, its included! Want an ice cream bar or popsicle out of the chest freezer in the office....bring your 50 cents... not the 1.50 at everywhere else! There is a family tent/car camping here with some dogs.....so the campground is obviously very pet friendly. Anyway.....my family (wife & 2 kids)....have been on the road for a week, and this has been THE BEST camping/overnight accomodations we've had.
