The entire lake shore was littered in rundown boats, kayaks, jet skis, buoys and other debris. And I do mean covered, I felt like I was looking at a post apocalyptic resort scene. Of the 12 guests camping while we were there, it was incredibly obvious that 9 were living long term in the campsites, resulting in a trashy rundown atmosphere, as well as the uncomfortable feeling you were encroaching on someone's home, rather than a mutual campsite. The owner was basically MIA and the person who I suspect is managing the property drove around the lot constantly but didn't offer much help or direction. It was obvious that they had recently renovated the public bathrooms, which included showers but when we paid four dollars for a hot shower (as advertised), there was only ice cold water. The general impression and feeling was unsafe, uncomfortable, and incredibly disorganized. Our children kept saying they felt like they were on an episode of Trailer Park Boys, which pretty much sums up the experience.

The highway isn't too heavily traveled, so the sites are fairly quiet, with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Tables, BBQ grills and fire rings...plus very clean vault toilets and running water. Being in view of the highway, the sites don't feel very secluded or private -- but that is more than made up for by the fact that directly across the highway is a little all-natural sandy-bottomed hot spring, right on the banks of the Payette River. As far as I know you can soak any time, day or night, in a little rectangular pool that used to be part of a bathhouse or something back in the day. We walked over from our campsite after dark, and hiked down for a very relaxing soak. This place is not hardcore, remote or rugged....but I still give it 5 stars because it's clean, beautiful and EASY! And sometimes, that's what you want! I would definitely stay here again...but if you don't want to camp out, you can use the springs for free by parking in the little day use lot at the trailhead, just across from the campground.

Be careful crossing it so your tires on your rig get lined up. It's not really a park for big RVs. We were among mostly small campers and people in tents. The campground host however was very nice. And the creek running through is a nice feature. If you're looking for that nice RV park and If you don't mind having to get your truck and rig washed after you leave, you'll love this place.

The owners harass you constantly about where you walk your dogs. There is one tree that they allow you to have your dog around. Yesterday, three of us had to organize times just for our dogs to go pee. It's literally one tree! We made some hot dogs over the fire and did a little walking around. The pool looks nice (we always saw a lot of people swimming). The staff was always nice and kind. They really seem dedicated to having a nice campground. We were really impressed by the camp kitchen. We didn't bring anything we needed to cook, (besides the hot dogs) so we didn't end up using it but it looked nice/useful. If we happen to find ourselves in this area again we will definitely use it! It even had a microwave! The bathrooms were always clean and had warm water for showers. The cabin itself was nice. We rented a 6 person cabin. It was roomy with a double bed and 2 sets of bunk beds. The beds had the classic cabin style mattresses, but not too bad. It had a little heater attached, which was nice when it got a little chilly in the evening. Overall a very pleasant and nice experience! (A personal favorite: the front porch swing on the cabin: such a cute touch)

To see the actual location, refer to Google Maps. A lot to like here, and it's all dry camping. But if you are used to metro area conveniences, be ready to drive 20+ mins, with Suncrest being the better option, vice Reardan or Wellpinit. It's a pretty drive, wherever you decide to go. Sites here are spaced nicely for semi-privacy; meaning, it's nice to have a quiet space, but it's also nice to see neighbors 30 yards away. A full camp is a safe camp this far out. If you have a travel trailer, don't get Site 4. It's set up is 'against the grain' for the 1-way road, and the only reason we made it in was because of our smaller RV. Big rigs? No way. They have these--I guess--decorative rocks to define each camp site. They're in the way, mostly. Otherwise, if you have booked online, it's plug and play. We got to our site; name on the reserved placard; and let the relaxation begin. Easy...
