One of Hood River's hidden gems, if you can hang. One might call this a "dive bar" but in reality it's a long-time local hangout with a fiercely loyal patronage. A great place to meet up, shoot pool, watch the game, or feed the jukebox. They've also got video crack and karaoke on Tuesday nights is always a blast. Our favorite bartender is in the gorge is Grace, hands down. Her high quality of service and cheerful laugh always brighten our evenings. Burgers are dope as well, but don't think you're gonna sit on your lazy ass and get table service. They operate with only one employee, so be patient or risk getting thrown out by all the locals. read more

I'm willing to give this place a 2nd chance - maybe for the $13 Friday Ribeye lunch special. As it was, we were there around 1:15pm on a Thursday afternoon. Not too crowded when we arrived, but really slow service with only one server who acted as both bartender, waitress ... and maybe cook? Music is pretty loud, and the customers there for early drinking at the bar are loud too. We both ordered the basic burgers, with no sauce. After about 45 minutes, I got up to see what was up with the burgers... and was told by the waitress, who was now in the kitchen, "Sorry - I have to do it all." I guess that meant cook too? We got the burgers - WITH the sauce - after close to an hour's wait. No other food was going out during that time from what I could tell. Hard to tell much about the burger's flavor, given the drenching in a mayonnaise-heavy "sauce." We also got one napkin and silverware delivered with the 2 burgers, and had to head up and then wait about 5 minutes for the additional napkins. That all sounds trivial ... but unless you have nothing better to do than sit and wait for food when you're hungry, it gets annoying. I doubt that a 2nd visit will yield much improvement, given that people say it's busy for that Ribeye special (how the hole-in-the-wall kitchen can knock out food for more than a few tables at a time is a mystery), but maybe we'll try it. It's what other Yelpers have said: local dive, with locals interested in early drinking or maybe bargain ribeyes. A mostly friendly vibe, but super slow service, and entirely inattentive: we had to go ask for virtually everything from menus to food to napkins. Don't go if you can't devote at least 1.5 hours to lunch. read more

Great dive bar ( Keno cards at every stool) with the cheapest breakfast in town, pretty much ANYTHING for less than $5, and If you go to bed hungry after last call, no worries, since they close at 4am, and open for breakfast at 7am. The fact that I was their for last call and pancakes should not cloud my judgment, or at least what I remember of it should not! This place reminds me of the Beacon Hill Pub in Boston, but with older scarier patrons that frequent the establishment and play way to much video lottery ( guilty as charged) They have a pool table and on Sundays its industry night, everyone in the biz with Monday off comes in, they have a DJ, and toothless AARP hotties drinking cheap rum and coke dance alongside 20 somethings who just got of the late shift. Its like Mos Eisley Spaceport, a scene straight out of Star Wars! I love it! Morgen is in control of the bar most nights, and will take care of you, even if you are from out of town! Oh, they also serve food!! Believe it or not, the cheeseburger and tater tots are considered to be among the best in Hood River, and I can say that at 2 am they tasted up to and possibly beyond expectations. The 'Carpet' is as far as I can tell, an institution in Hood River, and if you want a friendly place to throw one back, meet locals who DON'T windsurf, and sit outside with a smoke AND a drink, then belly up and tell 'em I sent ya! read more

This is a great dive bar! In town for a conference and after mingling with professionals all day, we decided we needed something off the beaten path yet close to our hotel and decided to try it out - no regrets! After a slightly chilly reception from the locals upon entering (whom I think were more surprised than anything), we were well taken care of by Caleb who was running the entire show - bartender, waiter, cook, etc. - and doing a great job. Food came out quick and quite tasty - standard bar fare, but better than expected. If you're looking for nothing fancy and enjoy a good dive bar, definitely check out the Red Carpet. read more

I was visiting my old home town to celebrate my mother's birthday. We decided to stop into this place. It is about the first joint that you come to when entering Hood River from the West. Outside the front door is a list of people that have been 86d from the premises. If only, I had been on this list.... My old man used to stop here for a steak sandwich and a beer about forty years ago. I give this place one star UNLESS you like to be surrounded by people blowing their unemployment or disability check on video lottery, in which case... I would give this a five star rating. Poor dental hygiene must be a prerequisite to drinking here. Both of our cocktails were undrinkable and left on the bar. I can not comment on the food, as no one seemed interesting in trying. looks worse from the outside than it actually is but it still is a dive bar, nice outdoor drinking area is great in the summer, open early which has been great on a few occasions when i wanted to watch soccer games in the morning with friends like the World cup and Ireland vs USA. If there was a way to give 0 stars i would this place closed down for a month and a half when me and my gf decided to go down there after there reopening we got completely shut down by the new manager they kept the same staff and they know us but since my gf's id was slightly bent the manager rudely refused us service when all the neighbor bars have no problem with her id.
