This was a solid burger. I had the burger in the season curly fries. The portion on the curly fries was a little bit small. But the flavor was good. I also had an iced tea that tastes freshly brewed. The ambience is beautiful. it's a more of a drive up and walk up and drive in. There's no indoor public restrooms, but there are a couple porta potties located in the parking area. Wheelchair accessibility: unfortunately, this restaurant is not accessible at all the ramp to get up to the ordering area is far too steep and there is no access to seating that in the wheelchair user access independently. There's either a step up or step down or multiple steps to each area. Also, none of the porta potties are wheelchair accessible. read more

Visited here on a very hot day in July, they closed early due to the heat in the kitchen, kudos for lasting that long! Big selling point of this place is the location on Rock Creek. Had the chili cheese bacon burger, could not detect any green chili? Kind of a scrawny burger for the price, fries were additional but of fantastic quality, appeared fresh cut, not frozen. What brought the rating up to 4 stars was the fish and chips, coleslaw and root beer, both on the 5 star level. Sitting by the Rock Creek made for a great fast food dining experience! read more

The burger and fries were great! Portion size was on par. Not a huge fan of their fry sauce but others I was with liked it.

The burgers are great and I love their shakes. Their creekside seating is really nice as well.

We were looking for a dog friendly restaurant, and the Red Box Car was the perfect choice! Hamburgers and fries were great, prices are very reasonable, and the seating was wonderful outside with a picnic table right beside the river. Definitely recommend this place. It was super! read more

I really wanted to like this little spot because Driving by it appears cute. Its lacking! The service is mediocre and the food isn't good enough to deal with the poor customer service. Unkept. Dingy. Run down. I hope the kitchen is cleaner than the rest of it. I have been here twice and will not be back and wouldn't recommend it. I asked for my burger to be "done" and when it wasn't I took it back and asked what I should do -all they said was I'll take it. I loved the food here growing up. Stopped with the kids and ordered kids meals. One burger with mustard instead of ketchup, instead I got one with mayo? No worries I'll grab some napkins and wipe it off and put mustard on it. Two other kids meals were mostly pink inside, real pink. Suggestion: kit kids meals. The kids fries are the same size as the large and the drinks aren't much different. They do get an extra star for atmosphere. love eating by the river! Wow, stopped in for lunch today at 12:55 pm and thought the line was a tad long, maybe four or five parties ( of two to four people)in front of us. As i got to the window to order at 1:20 pm i was told hold on a second and i then watched the gal walk back and forth in the kitchen a few times, never touced anything and then came back to take my order. The wifey and I each ordered a buffalo burger and shared a side of the fried green beans. Sounded great. At 2:00 pm our order was finally called. The food was pretty decent. Okay flavor on the burger, green beans were pretty good but all in all it was just a smidge above average. That said, I will never be back because of the wait...I mean an hour from getting in line to getting your food at an order at the counter, pick up at the counter establishment... No thanks. It was obvious the cook was cooking one order at a time and that is just ridiculous.... Next trip to red lodge I'm checkin out that taco bus. read more

Oh yeah! These are some yummy burgers! This is a cute little place that you can't miss when driving thru Red Lodge. This is our third visit to Red Lodge and every time we go by, this place is busy. Tonight, we found out why! You place your order and they announce when your order is ready. Poor Ben (I have no clue who he was) but they called him a bunch of times. Anyway, we both got the buffalo burgers. I got sweet potato fries and my hubby got onion rings - which were HUGE. The burgers were so good! The sweet potato fries were good and crunchy and the onion rings were perfect. And best of all, our meal didn't break the bank. There is seating outside along the river. This place is really solid. My wife and I had chicken Cesar salad wraps, and they were excellent for only about four dollars each. The restaurant is situated on a beautiful creek with lots of outdoor seating. It's always busy, so try to avoid the main rush-hour times. read more

Decent enough burger, but I'll have to echo some of the other reviews. Got our order wrong after we repeated it to the counter guy twice. Took a long time even though it wasn't busy. Understaffed for a busy little place. Have always loved the box car but 3-7 items were incorrect. Our milkshakes were given to us only after asking and still had to wait fir another to be made. The box car is a novelty just like the quick stop in rockvale but 30 min for two of us to not get what we ordered is not the box car of the past. Small portions. Got our order wrong. Didn't realize it until we got back to hotel so we has to get back out in the rain to get the rest of our food which had been ready and sitting there so was not hot by the time we got it.
