I have never tasted Malaysia food before, so I was super excited to try this out - even though this is Asian fusion, and not quite the real thing. It was still good! I had the whiskey beef noodles and the others in my party had the chicken curry. We also ordered the rojak for the table. OMG they were so bomb! Everything was packed full of flavor! My first choice on the menu was the Yak Attack Style but unfortunately we were told that they were out of yak . Had that not been the case, I would have given this a 5 star . I supposed we will have to revisit this again next time we are back in Montana. read more

First, the food was wonderful, the ambience is slightly crazed in a good way, the servers were attentive and friendly (that means Service, little yelp guy, so mark it, eh?) I was just in the mood for spaghetti and it was special. The Whiskey Noodles were, too. Now, you can't be in a hurry, AT ALL. In fact, the food prep is very slow, so just allow for that and you'll have a terrific time and meal. read more

Half Montana, Half Malaysia: MontAsia! Super fun and quirky name. There's not too many choices in Cooke City, let alone Asian cuisine and then Malaysian at that so I was really excited to find this place on Yelp! Cooke City is really just one street so everything is walkable. MontAsia is a small walk-up where you order and there are a couple a picnic tables right outside for you to sit and dine. I started with the Flowerade which was so refreshing! You definitely got floral notes with each sip and it wasn't too sweet. Butterfly pea flower I think is supposed to be good for you too so extra points for health. For the meal we got the Staff Noodles with Tofu which was tossed in seaweed and green onions. This tasted so/so, the noodles were all broken up and short and then tofu was lightly pan fried but the whole dish was a too salty and didn't have any other flavor components than that. We also got a Bison Burger that was served with lots of arugula which we liked and this yellow special sauce. The patty was super juicy and although a little messy to eat, was delicious. The tater tots were nice and crispy but we only got 2 ketchup sauces to eat. We ended the meal with a speciality dessert - the chai brownie which was very sweet. Great small restaurant located in the middle of Cooke City. Extensive menu full of a variety of bison and beef goodies. Large drink menu too. Free wifi. (PSA this is the city of no signal, so everyone just uses wifi) The staff folks are super nice. The owner (also the main chef) speaks mandarin, as does the lady who took our order. She was very accommodating with our drink requests for less ice and sugar. Bison King || $13 Tater tots topped with a cut up bison patty, lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole. It's a generous scoop of guac too to balance out the dryness of the meat and tots. A hearty entree large enough to split between 2. Flowerade || ~$3 A cute purple lemonade drink with rose syrup, lime juice, peaflower, and goji berry ice. I got mine with less ice and it was lovely! Tart and refreshing with a balanced sweetness. They serve spirit-free cocktails (mocktails) that are delicious! The brand they use is called Undone; I never tried that one before (I've had Seedlip, Dos, Free Spirits, and others) and it was really good. As somebody who stopped drinking two years ago I appreciate that places are embracing non-alcoholic drink options beyond just sodas or juices. The bartender did a fantastic job creating a gin lemon drop with Undone. On top of that, the food is super delicious. Stopped in after a trip to woodbine falls and couldn't have made a better decision. The food was fresh off the farm. Overheard the owner talking with his wife about all of the fresh food that they were going to serve, it was like getting an inside look into his love for what they were providing to the community... Stopped by for some Wi-Fi and a bite before heading out on another hike. Great outdoor seating that's also dog friendly. A cute little white poodle dog sat under the awning also... shop dog! Plenty of vegan/vegetarian options as well as meat. Something for everyone. We had the tofu and noodles with nori flakes and the potstickers. All were delicious. Nice sized servings too. I really wanted to try more of their items but planned on eating out only once or twice on our trip. Highly recommend. Good fusion food and some less adventurous options too. read more

Especially bad over priced wine. Barely better than your typical Montana asian place which is a very low bar. 2nd time trying this place just hoping i ordered wrong the first time but 2nd visit was worse. Best thing i saw served to other folks was the burger. But everywhere in Montana has a good burger. Simply should not be as awarded and hyped as it is. Probably one of the best meals we've had on our vacation to Jellystone. The wait is well worth it! Everything we got was delicious and tasted fresh. Do not skip on the curry, bison burger, tots and coconut shake. I wish I could have that coconut shake right now actually. The whole joint is run by a married couple so be PATIENT and kind! Near the end of a week in Yellowstone NP, my husband and I had been mostly eating the same few meals we'd packed into a cooler for the week. So when we left the park for an event in Cooke City, we were open to trying some local food. When you see a sign that says "MontAsia" and "Korean bison bowl," how can you NOT stop for a meal? We sat on the tiny porch and enjoyed the Korean bison bowl as well as a bison curry bowl. Both were pretty good and seemed to be the perfect "only in Montana" experience. We also got some huckleberry green tea and huckleberry Italian soda. Prices were reasonable. There were a lot of menu choices, including some good vegetarian choices. If you find yourself in Cooke City, Montana, this is recommended. read more

After 4 days of cold sandwiches and salads, I was really craving for some spicy warm food. I happened to go to another restaurant nearby and they directed me to Montasia for vegetarian options. I had the Cantonese style Tofu Curry with steaming hot Jasmine rice and I absolutely loved it. The use of curry leaves and red chillies was just perfect and reminded me of curries back home. Egg rolls were crispy on the outside and absolutely tasty. The owners are really polite and work non-stop. There is a lawn seating area right in front of the restaurant with some picnic tables and chairs that can be used for dining. I can't recommend this place enough to anyone staying in that area. Don't know if my review will give the place justice, but here goes: Alcohol: excellent selection of beers, including many Montana microbrews. Personally, the gin selection is excellent-- can you imagine an Icelandic gin in Fishtail? It's here! Food: the potsickers ate beyond anything found in a larger city. But today, we tried the KFC sandwich-- it was delicious! A fresh take on cole slaw, thick pickle slices and a breaded chicken breast that was both crisp and moist. And the salad -- not iceberg ( I hate iceberg) but micro greens and spring mix. Finally-- the fries: crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. And too many to clear my plate! Fabulous! We had dinner at MontAsia early on Saturday night, and it was packed. Half our group had burgers and half Asian food. My chicken curry was delicious, but then everyone raved about the food! The Ollie Burger my husband had was the best he could remember, which means a lot coming from a Montana man who loves a good burger. We had to try this Malaysian fusion place while we were in Cooke City. We ordered the Heisen Bison Burger, Staff Noodles, chai brownie, and flowerade. We were a little disappointed with the Staff Noodles. Although they are the most ordered item on the menu, the dish was very salty and not flavorful. The Heisen Burger, however, might be one of the best burgers I've ever had. The bison was extremely juicy and cooked to perfection. The combination of the bison meat with the arugula, spicy mayo, green chiles, and pickles was a saucy, wet, delicious mess. The side of tater tots with the burger provided a great complementary crunch to the wet burger. The flowerade was surprisingly not very sweet and overpowering. It was a good mixture of tangy with floral notes. The chai brownie was a little too sugary. It tasted more like a cinnamon brownie than a chai brownie. read more

Since their Fishtail location opened in March, I have been working my way through the menu loving each and every experience. But when I discovered Kung Pao Beef I was stuck - I have ordered it the last few visits. It is super spicy, but the "hot half-life" is very short so you go back for more again and again! Holy. Wow!!!! Stumbled upon this incredible spot by accident after driving through Lamar Valley in Yellowstone. It literally rivals all the countless wildlife and stunning scenery of the drive to get here. The food is hands down the best thing I have eaten from CA through Wyoming. I had the #15 with the house special green chili chicken, and my travel partner had #8. It was so good we got three more orders to go to eat while exploring Yellowstone. The family who owns and runs this joint is the sweetest. The chef was super helpful and answered all our questions about food allergies. Plus, the location is everything. As a local, I eat here fairly regularly. I highly recommend the burgers they are consistently awesome. If one is in the mood for food with an eclectic Asian touch then one's in for a treat. My personal favorite order is the Pot Sticker Plate with Chicken Curry, Kung Pao Chicken, and ALWAYS a Coconut Shake. Tofu and shrimp choices are great as well. Such a great surprise: shrimp done well in the middle of the mountains in Montana. I wanted to try so many things with went with the Shrimp Kung Pao. I also tried the Pea Flower drink which was so unique and delicious. Lastly, a little local flavor with cheesecake topped with local hand picked huckleberries. I've been coming up to Cooke for almost 25 years. My family has a cabin in Silver Gate. Imagine finding out there's a new restaurant and it's of my favorite variety: Asian! To say I was stoked would be an understatement. My husband got their curry while I decided to play it somewhat safer (in both heat and flavor) by getting the kung pao chicken. It was delightful. It was raining, a perfect day for coffee. So we talked to the owners (the cook and the waitress) and asked how long it would take and if it'd be alright if we walked and got some coffee---we'd pick up our food on the way back. They said it'd take about 10 minutes and we'd be ready to go! We walked down to the coffee shop (Pilot's Perk). Side note: Try this place, too! We got back ~12 minutes later and our food and drinks were ready to go! It was wonderful. Spicy, authentic, beautifully prepared. My only regret is that I wish I was in town longer to try more of their items. I do recommend to get this when you're in town for a while. They give you a lot of food (which isn't a burn!) but it can be hard to transport if you're leaving the next day or are in town only for a few hours. read more
