Deceitful, dishonest, and extremely unprofessional. This company misrepresented their pricing, lied repeatedly about waiving the service fee, and ultimately charged $240 without fixing the issue we called them for. We were told multiple times--by the owner--that no payment was required, only to later receive a threat of collections. They performed work we never approved, claimed they "cleaned" the condenser unit when it was clearly still dirty, and never asked for consent before doing anything. Nothing was repaired, yet we were billed anyway. Months of false assurances, misleading explanations, and outright lies. Once the collections letter arrived, we paid just to be done with it--but the experience was exhausting, unethical, and unacceptable. Avoid this company. read more

The best HVAC company in town! Fast service. Their staff is great; technicians are very knowledgeable and their office staff is very pleasant. Prices are very fair. I know that I am Reckingers for life. Highly recommended company. read more

Our 80 year old furnace was leaking carbon monoxide and my family and I were so so nervous about getting it fixed and doing it properly and were so worried for weeks. We had a couple different sets of Reckingers enployees come through the house throughout the process, however Phil and Darryl NEED to be recognized. They were the hardest working people I've ever seen and didn't even stop for lunch over the course of four or five days. They were so pleasant to just have around and made us feel so at ease about the entire thing and got everything done much quicker than we had anticipated. We thanked these two probably about 300 times and I wish I could say it more. THANK YOU!! read more

I have had two bad experiences with Reckingers that have led me to write this review. Both experiences were the same tech, an older gentleman I believe was named Javier (definitely a Spanish/Hispanic name starting with J). I mention this so you know to remain skeptical of this guy if he comes to your house. Strike one: the attempt to trick me into signing an ongoing service agreement. I called Reckingers out to give my furnace an inspection and cleaning after I bought the house as due diligence. When the tech handed my something to sign at the end, I read what it was (I never sign things without reading, and this is a good example why). Turns out I would have been agreeing to pay them something like $90/yr for inspection on an ongoing basis. The tech didn't say a word about this before he handed me the paper. He expected me to sign without reading. Very slimy. Strike two: the attempt to get me to replace my working AC system either through lying or missing an extremely basic check. My air conditioner stopped working in 2015. I called Reckingers again, and the guy looked over the system. He "determined" that the compressor was seized. I received some replacement price quote from Reckingers that were quite had to swallow (a new AC is not cheap). I waited 3 years to replace the system, because I didn't have the money. When I called another company this year (2018), Expert Heating and Cooling, they fixed the system for under $200 in about 20 minutes. It was a bad capacitor. In fact, their tech showed me that the capacitor was visibly damaged. I lived without central air for 3 years because of Reckingers. They tried to trick me into signing up for a service plan too. I would recommend anyone avoid these guys at all costs. read more

I was out of town last week for work. My girlfriend stopped by my house to check in on things in my absence, and it turns out my furnace isn't turning on. It's also one of the coldest weeks we've had, and I have a crawlspace, not a basement, so I'm worried about my pipes. I call up Reckinger Heating and Cooling, whom I've dealt with in the past, and have had a good experience. They sent a technician out, who after about 10 minutes, says 'Your thermostat is bad.' 'How much to fix?' '$86 service charge, $247 for the thermostat. It's the only one I can install today'. I'm in Las Vegas, and I'm worried about having an unheated house with single digit temperatures, so I just tell him to go ahead. I looked up the model of the thermostat online, the Aprilaire 8400 series, and it costs .... $50.00. , so roughly a 500% markup. I'm fine with marking up equipment, we do it at my job, by I thought that was ridiculous. I called them up and asked how they could possibly charge that much for a POS thermostat, and I was told 'It has a 5 year warranty.' Ok. I could have bought a fully digital and remote controlled Nest for that price, gotten a $50 rebate from DTE to boot and installed it myself in an hour. They said they'd look into it and call me back Monday, but did not. This was also not an emergency call, it was regular business hours and they had time available. These guys are shysters, and I won't be using them or recommending them for anyone from now on. read more

hope to help avoid the pains and frustrations, poor service to others that I recently went thro'. The City inspection required us to have the new, working water heater inspected for flue in Summer of 2018. First service repairman spent 30 seconds in the house saying everything is OK & we can have the follow up w/ the City Inspector, & the City still needed water heater flue looked at. Several phone calls & several hundred dollars later, Reckinger did it. Once a service company calls the City on your behalf, they are the only authorized one to help get the inspection certificate & Reckinger service and charges were bad. At the end of the service call, the serviceman threatened my tenant's young wife w/ a little baby till I could authorize the phone payment. Do yourself a favor, there are better choices read more

Our water heater went out and I felt that it was the Honeywell Electronic Gas Valve. Water heater was probably 8 years old, and the pilot light would not stay lit. I YouTube d replacement and several videos said that this component can go out at any time. I'm not mechanically inclined so I called Reckinger who have been around for ages. They used to be very reputable. The receptionist was very nice and would have a technician show up in the afternoon. $98.50 for diagnostic. Tech showed up (I'll withhold his name) and seemed nice, but something seemed wrong with him. He went downstairs, checked the pilot light and within a minute got up off the floor, taped the component with his flashlight and said, " you need a new one of these, $600, take it or leave it." Didn't even pretend to spend time getting a diagnosis. I asked him a few questions and he didn't give any answers. Hah! I called a person who knew water heater installation and he said that I could get a whole new water heater for not much more. I went upstairs, not leaving him alone and wrote him the $98.50 check. Again, he didn't seem right. I saw him texting someone and looked behind him while he was playing on his phone. I saw on his screen. I AM STONED. HAHA. What a joke. Not too smart. Gave him the check and sent him out the door. Wasted money. Don't go here for any household issues. read more

Great service! Fast response and pleasant to speak with. They had very fair prices and told me exactly what it was going to cost after the problem was found. I highly recommend this business for it's personality alone. If you call them, ask for Jim. If he can't work with you directly he will recommend someone else he works with that you can trust within the company. This is a company you can trust. read more

Reckinger sent an inexperienced tech to diagnose my furnace. The tech stated the blower motor needed to be replaced. I bought a new motor for $131. Before replacing the motor I checked the motor capacitor with my DVM. The capacitor had failed. I replaced the $9 capacitor and the furnace works. I could not return my $131 motor to Downriver Refrig. Reckinger is now stating they will turn over my $104 bill for a misdiagnosis to a collection agency. I am not going to pay for a misdiagnosis that cost me $131. read more

If I could give negative star, I would. Horrible service from Reckingers. We have been having issues with our heater going off for the last winter and this year. It took them several visits to determine a part had been installed incorrectly in our furnace causing the heat to go out intermittently. They said a part would have to be ordered and would come out to install it. Two weeks later we still have no heat. They were scheduled to come out today and fix it but claimed we were not home and didn't answer the phone. The interesting part about that was they did call at 11:56 am saying they would be two hours out but came unannounced a half hour after leaving that message so of course I missed them. Chastity at front desk said it was our fault Bc we should have already been waiting so she sent the people onto another job and insinuating that we should have been paying more attention. She rescheduled them for Friday and I was understandably upset Bc we have no heat. I asked to buy the part from them that they ordered to have another place install it which they couldn't do for liability reasons which I understand however when I found it was a simple pvc pipe that we had waited two weeks w no heat I was livid. I asked to speak to the owner but never received a return call. Later, I received an odd vmm from chastity staring before she sent 'her boys' out, she needed me to call her. She is not the manager/owner but has taken on that role. I told them I would be writing a yelp review and they didn't like that. Shame that local businesses like that lack customer service. So much for the customer is always right. read more

We had our boiler go out in the middle of January on a Saturday during a snowstorm. Reckinger was the only company that would come out to try to fix it, did not charge us extra fees, and when they determined that it was beyond repair, they brought us heaters to use until we could sort out the payment and installation of the new unit. They were fast, sympathetic and they put the costs spent on trying to fix the boiler toward the cost of buying a new one. AND they made sure we knew about options for zero-interest financing and getting energy rebates. All-around good people whose staff went above and beyond. It was clear that they were not just out to make money, but actually trying to help us. read more

Had my fireplace repaired in December, charges, fees and labor costs were explained after the fact but I was grateful to have a working fireplace again and I was assured they cover their work. I called in this morning since my pilot light appears to be out and they charged me over $300 for the pilot assembly and am told they can't come out over the weekend without charging me overtime. When I explained I can't be home next week due to meetings they were kind enough to let me know that they'd work with me and if I could be out of work by 2... I cut her off at that point since she was being ridiculous and will need to call back when I can be home Monday through Friday during their business hours for them to fix the work they warranted. Great job folks!!! read more

I called on a Monday and setup an appointment for a free estimate Tuesday at 1030, when no one showed up by 1050 I called to confirm and was told the first guy had something wrong with his schedule but was coming right over. I waited another 30 minutes (they are 10 minutes from me) and called again and was told the guy had car trouble but someone was on his way. About 20 minutes later someone shows up, measures the project for 10 minutes, then tries to charge me 85 dollars. I informed him i was told it was a free estimate and he said that is for new equipment only (which I was not told about). I refused to pay and he stormed out. The communication of this company is terrible. I doubt I'll even get a quote them. read more

I was at a meeting the other night and a couple had Reckinger install a new water heater. For some reason they had to dig a new hole (?) to put it in and when it was inspected by the city, the city wouldn't pass it. This couple kept calling Reckinger back but they wouldn't come back. I think we were all shocked when he told us the name of the company. I just always thought Reckinger would be a good company to do business with. I guess not. read more

I contacted Reckinger's during the first polar vortex when my furnace died. Happily I reached them before the end of the day. The sent a technician out, but neglected to tell me as he arrived after the office closed I would have to pay overtime. He repaired the igniter switch and still no heat. He needed a different part. So on the 20 below night we just hunkered down. When he returned the next day, he satisfactorily repaired my furnace. For that I was grateful but my bill was not adjusted for the unnecessary part. With the terrible weather I was grateful to have heat. But not at all happy with the massive bill so I called Reckinger's as i felt i should have been informed about overtime and that I should be accommodated for the unnecessary part. I called the office three times and was promised that the office manager would get back with me.. I mostly wanted to vent my displeasure. I never got a return call and that is why I felt compelled to write a review. Much can be forgiven when customers are given regard and in this instance I was not. read more

Horrible customer service from Reckingers Heating and Cooling. I was unjustly charged overtime of $75.00 at $37.50 per quarter hour and the owner wasn't even here but 15 minutes if that. I also made him aware of this as well. The owner even mentioned that he would look into this overtime fee and NEVER got back with me. Spoke to a very RUDE lady by the name of Lillian who does not need to be in the realm of customer service. As Lillian said that she has to take her bosses word over mind and if he says he was at my house installing an igniter for 25 minutes than he was. I guess the customer is never right when it comes to this business. Mind you the owner was in his truck and pulled off by then and still charging us overtime. I will be reporting this complaint to BBB! read more

Our heat wasn't working correctly, so we called Reckinger. They were pretty dismissive on the phone and said they were pretty busy but would be able to come out a few days later at a certain time, and they would call before they arrived. Never got a call, but they arrived late. Guy told us something was wrong with it and that he had to order a part, and he'd call us back the next morning. We had to immediately pay $ 84.50 for a service charge, which did NOT go toward the repairs. Next morning arrived with no call, so my husband called them. No info to give us. Husband called several times throughout the day, still no info. Called the next day, found out that they were going to send someone out a week later to look at the furnace again, as the part the guy said we needed isn't made for our furnace. A week later, and we called them because they hadn't called us. We were told that we were not on the schedule for the day, even though my husband had confirmed that we were. Pete was sent out. He was nice, told us what he thought was wrong and that someone else would be out later. Someone did come out, it turned out to be something completely different that was wrong (needed a new circuit board). Cost was $375.50, which seems pretty pricey for a circuit board and less than 20 min of labor. If you want to be ignored and ripped off, call Reckinger. read more

We had a regular maintenance check up done on our furnace and air conditioner just a few days ago. Everything worked fine until the technician got his hands on it. We paid a lot of money to be in this program they offer. They made it sound good! My furnace and air are only about 6 years old. The technician said "I needed a new igniter for the furnace and a new condenser for the air". I should have asked for the old parts. Anyway, after he was finished I didn't realize the air was not working for a few day do to my husband and I have spent a lot of time working outside. We have a bungalow and use a window air upstairs. Found out today the air was not coming on in the main area of the house. I contacted a different company because I immediately lost trust in Reckinger. I found out that the igniter was not tightened down and there was no voltage going to the air conditioner therefor the air wasn't working. I did not call Reckinger to come back because I felt that something was not right about their work. The quality of workmanship doesn't even rate one star. The guy they sent was NOT experienced!!! Also, he cleaned the furnace and air conditioner in about 60 seconds tops!!! A monkey could do a better job. Save your money and go elsewhere!!! Very disappointed and sorry I trusted them. My husband spoke to one of the owners and nothing was resolved. They said we should have called them regarding the problem. Their company is the only reason we had to call someone else because the problem stemmed from them. How can you screw up an easy fix if those parts REALLY needed replacement???
