Started out ok but went downhill ever since. Terrible service, unfriendly and rude. Over inflated pricing. Will leave you hanging after they get your money and install the system. We are not looking for free service, just fix it! I can't begin to explain how upset this company has left us feeling. We were basically called liars, talked over and left with non working air conditioning they installed new in 2012.. considering it is only used about 2 months out of the year, I didn't think it is unreasonable to think it should last longer than that. Not to mention the furnace that was installed the same time having to be repaired twice since then. Today we were told to find another company to fix the equipment they installed. I had the unfortunate experience of my heat going out recently. In Michigan, this is never a fun event...especially when it's 18 degrees out. I called R&L per a recommendation from a friend. They answered the phone quickly, and got a technician out right away. The technician came over and removed the dirty filter. The heat kicked on, so he assumed everything was fixed and told me that he didn't have any filters on his truck that were the right size for my furnace, but it was ok to let the furnace run without a filter. He was at my house for half an hour, and charged $125, which was the minimum he was able to charge. This was not the problem. The problem is that my heat went out - again - 3 days later. When I woke up Saturday morning, it was 50 degrees inside of my house. I called R&L right away, and spoke with their after-hours representative. I told her it was an emergency, as I didn't have any heat. She responded that the office was closed that day, and that they wouldn't be doing any repairs that day, but that someone would be giving me call back. She said "good luck" and hung up the phone. It was 18 degrees outside. My pipes could have burst. I have a 9 year old daughter and a dog to take care of - but the best I got was a "good luck." I truly feel like the tech did a poor job assessing what was actually wrong with my furnace, and went for the "quick fix." It turned out that there was improper wiring in my thermostat and my furnace that was causing the furnace and central air to run at the same time; there was a literal block of ice in my central air unit that was completely overlooked by the R&L tech. I paid $125 to have my filter removed by R&L, when I could have avoided a much bigger headache if he had done a more thorough investigation. I got a call back about my furnace from R&L...on Monday. Thankfully I found a different company to repair my furnace before then. I'm very disappointed with the service I received from R&L. read more

Good price, professional installation! I had furnace and AC units installed this week and couldn't be happier with it. I was surprised they were able to install them just days after it was quoted. The installation team was there when they said they would be, were pleasant and reviewed the install before they started. They explained the functionality & maintenance of each product when they were done, and the site was as clean when they left as it was when they started. The furnace is so quiet, I hardly know it's on! They were friendly to my dogs and when the cat spazzed out and fled into the basement they stopped everything to help find him. Customers beware! This company installed our heating and cooling upon construction of our home. Within the first few months, the zones malfunctioned and it was nearly impossible to get them back to fix it under warranty. When they did they did quick fixes and the zones kept malfunctioning. When we brought in another company (recommended by Lennox) and they went to the attic they saw "the worst wiring job they ever encountered" as the source of our issues. We had to re-wire the system. I called the company upon this evaluation and they stated they "don't come out that far" and couldn't help (though they came this far for the original install and acknowledged that). Beware also of the BBB rating. I posted a review on them and the BBB couldn't publish it because Mary stated she couldn't find record of our account, though she had just one week prior over the phone. I quickly found the original invoice and emailed it to the BBB and they were very sorry, acknowledge that it was a shady business over the phone to me, but couldn't publish the review since the invoice was over one year old. This company's BBB rating is because of the shadiness that underlies their business philosophy. They are incompetent and unethical. read more

Beware of this company. I hired R@L Heating and Cooling to remove my old central air unit and furnace and install new central air and new high efficiency furnace, June of 2013. Just 18 months later the furnace and humidifier broke down. 12 months after that, the furnace broke down again! On both occasions I called R@L for help and could not believe the arrogant and condescending attitude from the people at R@L. Along with being laughed at and belittled over the phone, they refused to honor the 5 year warranty from the manufacturer. I hired this company to do a central heating and cooling system after getting 4 other quotes. They came in the cheapest. I also felt the most comfortable with the owner salesman who came to the house. On the day of installation, two guy's showed up on time and started ripping out the old system. The guy's who showed up were pleasant and didn't mind my snooping. By the end of the day my new system was installed and running. The only thing that kind of bugged me that this is a condensing furnace and the fresh air intake is located indoors. My other one was outdoors. When the city inspectors arrived, and passed the system with flying colors, I asked the mechanical inspector about the air intake. He told me "Ya, I don't like it either, but that's how they do it now a days, and it's code" Just to be fair, I did not ask R&L about this and since the city passed it, I just chalked it up to live and learn. Anyways, I love the system and almost 6mos later Im satisfied. Quality install and even swept up the work area. Will use again and will recommend. Nice! read more

I put in a new furnace and AC unit in 2013 with this company. They tout service plan commitment for $189 a year to ensure you are a priority service. The first time I requested this service, the technician looked for excuses to not correct the condition when I had no heat in the middle of the winter, blaming it on my wifi thermostat. Latest episode with service contract was a lack of AC and requested service call. I was told a technician would be by our house in the afternoon the next day. Arrangements were made for my wife to be home to tend to this. My wife did not answer the phone when they called the next day because she was taking a work phone call and responded twenty mins later, at which time they wanted her to troubleshoot over the phone and moved the service call to the next day because she didn't answer. I was able to contact them and try to understand how the situation degraded to where my issue was not being addressed as promised. Blamed my wife for not answering the phone, wanted her to skip a doctors appointment the next day to come. The next response was that she, the office lady Mary, was refunding my service contract money and they would not be out. They do not want to work on equipment in which they didn't install. If you want to only deal with an install and preventive maintenance, such as seasonal startups, and a system install, this may be the place for you. If you expect to get service promised by paying for their annual service agreement, you should go elsewhere. You will be hassled for your request for service and anything other than their install will be blamed for the problem, even without assessment. read more

A/C was blowing but not cooling so I called R & L and tech came, said it was 1 pound low on Freon after he already put it in, advised me to use it up then get a new unit, as this unit is old. Charged me $246. 3 days later, no cold air again so I called answering service Saturday morning, told them I don't have air and I have an elderly family member visiting. Tech calls back, says they don't do "recalls" until Monday because they don't make any money on these calls and they would have to pay tech overtime but he'd call "Mary" and ask her and call me back. No call back. I called again Monday, scheduled another visit. Soon after I get a call from someone (Andy?) who has me look to see if fan is on and it is so he says Freon is leaking. I asked how he can be so sure of that and still want a tech to come because I just paid $246 and I'm still having the same problem. He says there's no use in sending someone again, and charging me again, to service my old unit. I asked him if I'm just supposed to eat this $246 I just paid, that it's a lot for me as I am a single mother, he says he'll apply that to a new unit I purchase from them. I will get a new A/C unit but it most definitely won't be from R & L!! I will never do business with this company again. read more
