Around the same time, I noticed I had missed a call from a manager. When I called back, there was a little bit of back and forth and some time on hold, but then Mr. George called me directly on my other line. We had a great conversation about everything that happened. He listened, acknowledged the mishaps, understood my frustrations, and most importantly he wanted to make it right. And he did exactly that. I went back to the store, and Mr. George personally made sure my concerns were addressed. Shout out to Mr. George for being a man of his word. Isn't there a saying that all a person really has is their word? Well, Mr. George stood on business and followed through. What really impressed me was seeing leadership in action. I even had to laugh when one of the younger employees told him, "Mr. George, you're going to have to work in the bay!" Without hesitation he replied, "Yes, if I have to, I will." In this instance, he absolutely did what was needed to take care of a customer. Hopefully, I won't need to see Discount Tire anytime soon since I now have four brand-new tires, but because of the way Mr. George handled the situation, I will definitely be back when I do. However, my experience completely changed afterward. Today, I needed to replace my brake pads and attempted to remove the wheels myself. I was unable to loosen the lug nuts because they had been tightened extremely hard during my previous visit. While trying to remove them, I broke one of the wheel studs due to the excessive force required. I stopped immediately and went back to Orange Tire to address the issue. I explained that I had been there a month ago and that their team had overtightened the lug nuts to the point where I couldn't remove them. Instead of taking responsibility, the staff initially tried to blame rust. I can understand one stuck lug nut -- but not three out of five on a single wheel. That's not normal and clearly indicates improper torque. The manager spent about 15-20 minutes on the phone (possibly with the owner), and eventually told me that I would need to purchase new parts myself, bring them in, and they would replace them for free. I offered a simple and reasonable solution -- just reimburse the cost so I could handle the repair myself and not waste additional time. However, the owner responded in a dismissive and unfriendly manner, refusing any refund and insisting I follow their process. This situation shows a lack of accountability and poor customer service. What started as a great experience turned into a very disappointing one. Be careful -- over-tightened lug nuts can cause serious damage and additional expenses.

I arrived at 5:30pm, close to their closing time, so I didn't expect fast service. But I counted at least 8 employees who saw that I was there but tried to avoid eye contact as I sat in my car. It was only when an employee drove in with a Discount Tire fleet service vehicle at 5:40pm when I was warmly welcomed and told that the workers in the office knew I was there and I would be assisted shortly. An employee helping another customer did also check on me from a distance. After another 8 minutes, an employee named Cameron came over to help...then proceeded to joke with one of his colleagues in the parking lot who was helping other patrons that his colleague needed to help me when he was done. His colleague was just as confused as I was. I asked Cameron for a tire check and tire pressure to a certain specification, which was done on only two of my tires. Cameron then tried to explain the mechanics of how tire pressures worked and how I didn't need my other two tires checked. I firmly asked him to check, which he did and filled my tires to the requested tire pressure. When it was done, the time was 5:52pm. For something that should have at most taken 10 minutes, this was a big time suck. All in all, I left frustrated and annoyed. The guy in the fleet vehicle did his job well. I much prefer the Discount Tire in Leander over this location.

They provide excellent information to the customer and not once have I ever heard them try to pressure or upsell someone. They tell you what the issue is, what your solutions are, and get it done right the first time. Even something as simple as an oil change is best done at Dave's-they give the vehicle a multi point look over and send you a picture filled analysis with information and recommendations. Luckily I've rarely needed repair work done, but friends I've sent there have and they've never had anything but praise for the experience. You might find a cheaper shop, but you'd be getting a cheaper experience. Dave's isn't charging top dollar but they're giving top of the line service.

It was impressed on me that these repairs were critical for safety. The person on the phone even made comments about how glad they were that we were safe as the brakes were metal on metal, etc.The written estimate that arrived was much higher and still had these things listed as critical along with a few smaller issues. When I requested an itemized breakdown and compared parts prices to AutoZone retail, I found parts were marked up over 2x retail across the board. When I called to ask about this, prices dropped immediately without any additional information from me. It took them over night to send the original estimate but the new one arrived within minutes of my texting. I ultimately approved only the wheel bearing and lug stud repair and negotiated the price down. The actual safety critical item, one lug nut holding the wheel on, was buried after the full upsell menu was presented. Several items were listed as critical on that quote that they later said were not actually critical. I posted anonymously in a local group asking for honest mechanic recommendations. The owner identified me by my comments, I guess, and referenced my vehicle publicly to signal he knew who I was. I feel as if this might have been an attempt to get me to remove my anonymous post. Multiple other folks in the comments described identical experiences including false "metal on metal" urgency that softened the moment they pushed back. The work was done and we picked up the car this morning. The process to get to that point was frustrating. Since I only see good reviews I wanted to offer another perspective. The staff is very nice and the banter when we came in was fun. But nice is not the same as honest. I would advise anyone using this place to check retail prices of parts. And since they always offer better prices with push back, everyone who deals with them should question their prices. Some labor costs were good and some were listed at the high end for the area but not ridiculously so. The biggest price "padding" was in the parts themselves. The work seems good at this time, if you want to pay extra for parts in order to be treated nice in a fancy waiting room, I suppose it's worth it to pay more for that service but it's a nah from us.
