I discovered Minas while getting some new tires across the street at Discount Tires (check them out if you have tire needs!). I had about an hour to kill, and was hungry enough, so figured I'd roll the dice. I was greeted quickly by an energetic and very friendly employee who let me pick my own table. Once seated, chips & two kinds of salsa landed almost instantly. The tortilla chips were fresh and crispy, and the salsas were superb! It does turn out that they don't run their lunch special on the weekends, which is what drew me in, but I grabbed a two item combo for $13.50 and it was plenty of food. I tried a chimichanga and a chili relleno, and both were good. The slaw style salsa stuff was so good I brought it home. The wife tried it, and now wants to go back there just for that - so good job on that salsa stuff! read more

We've been coming to both locations of this Real for years - having the same meal, chicken or steak quesadillas or both. They're fabulous. Tonight was really sub-standard as far as service. It was a very slow Sunday night, with a primarily empty restaurant. That said, the service responsiveness and quality was as if the place was jammed. Wrong drink delivered. Long lapse between request for bill and bill delivered. On top of that, with an empty place, in the midst of the meal they turned up the music indoors to really loud. Nobody there to listen to it but a few by normal standards, and it made it hard to hear over just a table for two. Don't get it. Why this night was such a bad experience. read more

Ordered pick up from here. A friend recommended the restaurant and I'm glad I followed through. I got the carnitas dinner plate. It comes with a healthy serving of meat, rice, beans, a little guacamole, Pico and lettuce along with 4 tortillas either corn or flour. The menu seems reasonably priced with a variety of dishes - enough choices for everyone. My food was hot and ready when I arrived. The front of the house worker was friendly and at first sight the place looks orderly and clean. I look forward to ordering again. read more

Where is my Guacamole And Sour Cream? Thought this place was awesome until I opened my order and they charged me for something that they did not provide. When I notified them, they were very apathetic and clearly stated that the only option was for me to call me get the guacamole and sour cream and drive all the way back there... my food will be completely cold at this point and they will be closed. This was hands down the best Mexican I've had. It was a last minute yelp find and it was authentic, good portion sizes, very reasonable prices and good service! The pico and salsa are fantastic and free. The cheese dip was a huge portion, it would've been nice to have a small option because we barely made a dent in it. Also, they weren't able to split my friend and I's meals into two tabs and pay cash for one and card for the other which I found odd. Not a big deal though, it was a small restaurant so I can't imagine they have the newest cash register system! Overall, great experience and will crave when I return to MN. read more

While exceptionally noisy due to a boisterous crowd, do be put off by an expected wait, or a somewhat confusing menu. It is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been too. First fet me say the menu is to be studied. Don't forget you can have it your way. I found everything I was looking for and more. The food was equisitely prepared and intuitive. The WROST Mexican food on earth! I stop by after work hoping to have found a new restaurant that was close to home. I ordered a combination plate and the square foam container that the entire meal (not the toastada) came in was the most unappealing sight of food. They had put about 1.5 cups of rice, 3/4 of a cup of beans (in the two small serving areas) and the enchilada, burrito and tamale in the large serving area. It look like leftover food to be fed to the hogs. I was wondering what the toastada was going to look like ... well it wasn't any better. It was a cold corn tortilla not fried and crunchy with about 1/2 cup of cold beans and two cups of cut lettuce, bits of tomatoes. WHERE'S the cheese? The unsalted tortilla chips would be enjoyed by the squirrels. The salsa was as watery as the green Chile which made the burrito appear to be one that had sat in the rain ... soggy. Well this is a place you should avoid unless you dine-in, so that you can get a refund or replacement from management. $17.00 (tip included) wasted. Would've been better going to Taco Bell (only place to go after a night of partying) instead I had a P&J sandwich. read more

I had 45 minutes to wait for my car to be fixed today and was starving and Real de Minas was recommended as having good green chili. It is May 2 and snowflakes are swirling in the air. What should a girl do....go to Real de Minas for a great bowl of green chili. I have actually been wanting to try this restaurant but being a creature of habit, always turn into Lupita's. I am glad I had to walk across the street from Discount Tire (see review) to try their menu. From the moment the warm chips and nice salsa were set in front of me, I was in love. The green chili is wonderful, the bowl huge and filled to the rim. The best part were the succulent chunks of pork (they were spec free as the Husband would say). And it had a nice kick, OK, it had a big kick of heat. It came with my choice of corn or flour tortillas, another plus in my book. I am a sucker for nice interiors and this hacienda style place is cute. Faux wall treatment, Mexican antique looking tchotchkes, and TVs in every corner playing Mexican soap operas (my way of learning Spanish). Also nice booths with the tables bordered by pretty Mexican tile (colors are orange, yellow, and red). Although I did not have a cocktail, they do have bar service. However, they did have good ice tea. I will be coming back and sharing my time between Lupita's and Real de Minas from now on. read more

After my husband and I ordered an entree and the special of the day, the waitress said she could NOT honor the free Sopapilla!!! BEWARE!!!! The fine print has ALL KINDS OF DISCREPANCIES with the order!!! The food is 'spicy', but the portion sizes are adequate! We came here for East Side UYE lunch club. The chips and salsa were nice starters. Nothing special, but well made. For my lunch, I opted for a big bowl of posole rojo (Pozole: hominy soup with shredded pork and pork feet with a side of cilantro, radish, onion, cabbage, and lime). It had a certain authentic quality to it (I have eaten posole in several place in Mexico and well as having in the homes of Mexican-American families). However, it was just okay. Nothing terrible, but it lacked seasoning. They served oregano on the side, but this is just on the same. Also, it had very little heat, and shaking pepper flakes into it is also not quite right. On top of this, I felt it lacked salt. This is also rather unusual, as I seldom need to add salt to Mexican restaurant food. Once again, there was nothing horrible, but it was just a fair to goodish bowl of soup. I think they may have some ventilation issues. We were seated in the back room. Every time somebody ordered the fajitas (and it happened a couple times), the sizzling platters released so much smoke, that several of us had coughing fits. My ordered was incorrect and instead of coming to a common ground the Manager spoke to me real disgustingly rude! she went off by saying this is Door Dashes fault and I need to discuss it with them; not even letting me get a word in, (talking over me ) I was charged twice as much as I should have, only receiving half of my order. It wasn't about the money! As it was lack of customer appreciation! I was astonished of the horrible treatment this lady was being to a past customer. We recently found this gem while in Aurora at Anschutz Medical Campus. My opinion may be skewed by our having come during a snowstorm, so there wasn't much crowd and the kitchen and service staff weren't challenged. The food was remarkable enough (very fine enchiladas de camarones) that we came back the next night, still in the snow and ice, for pork fajitas. Also remarkable, and with an appealing, albeit unusual, flavor profile: If my palate still works, the secret ingredient is cinnamon, which gives a warm, earthy tang that pairs well with the other, more conventional, ingredients. The usual rice and beans are commensurate with the mains. The chips were hot and fresh tasting, and the two accompanying salsas, one a thicker-than-usual red, the other a coarse mix of diced onions and bell peppers in a vinegar-based liquor, were very good. I found that, despite my pickiness about food, I could eat an embarrassing amount of these appetizers. The menu is quite large, but the staff were willing to have the kitchen do whatever we wanted with a dish. It's worth the time to peruse the offerings, because I think that there are special things hidden within the stuff you're used to seeing in a Norteño food menu. Service was reasonably attentive, but not hovering: plenty good enough. Prices are fair, so the experience is worth the price asked. The presentation of the meal was pretty and appetizing. The eating bore out the promise. Margarita was not remarkable, but it was plentiful and quite a bit better than average and worth its price. I can't relate the experiences we had to the negative reviews here. We were wowed. Highly recommended. We live in Littleton and think this restaurant is worth a drive. read more

Still on the hunt for great lunch spots around the AMC, a coworker and I opted to check out this Real de Minas location. We arrived during the noon hour and were promptly seated in a cozy booth and immediately served chips and two tasty and spicy varieties of salsa. I couldn't see the rest of the restaurant from my vantage point, but it appeared to have two separate dining rooms, all with colorful decorations and lovely hardwood. After perusing one of the largest menus on earth (seriously, who are they kidding with this thing? way too many choices, so little time!), I selected the simple "arroz con pollo" while my coworker chose a beef burrito. Our food arrived in record time, very impressive! This is always a bonus when you only have an hour for lunch. Holy Mole, massive plates piled with delicious food! My chicken and rice was really quite fantastic: spicy and satisfying. (I took the leftovers home and had it again for supper because there was so much.) My coworker appeared to enjoy her lunch too because her plate was cleaned in no time. This RDM location is miles ahead of its counterpart on Peoria: super fast, friendly service and pipping hot food served up in no time. This is an awesome new lunch spot for me! read more

The most consistent restaurant in Aurora on East Colfax. I've been coming here since the place 1st opened. Since long ago when you could smoke in the back part of the bar. I Have Had a lot of of new culinary experiences here. First time with shrimp de ablo. First michelada! (Spelling?) The first time I learned about and ate a deep fried jalapeño dipped in to a tiny pile of salt was here. ( Gringa, I know.) The dinner menu goes on for pages. There are a slew of good Mexican places on this stretch of Colfax, but I like this one a little more than the rest. They've got a pretty large menu with all the traditional Mexican dishes, so whatever you're in the mood for you can find. The basics like tacos and burritos are done well, and I enjoy the tamale plate as well. The carne asada is probably my favorite meat, though their pork is also tasty. I haven't gotten into the seafood section of the menu, but maybe sometime I will. Chips and salsa come to your table, and the red salsa is a solid medium while the pico is about the same. I like their rice quite a bit as well. Everything comes out fresh and fast and you can eat quickly if you're in a hurry, though they don't rush you either. Don't overlook this place when trying to decide between all your options out here! read more
