They also carry certain items that regular stores like save-on-foods doesn't have. Great prices on produce, breads (they are not afraid to mark down 50%) and other nice pantry items, and huge freezer section too! (I never tried their Pharmacy, but glad they have one) In today's day and age, you should expect to vist 2 or 3 other grocery stores while doing your bargain hunting, and Freshco is always top of my list to visit first. Whatever they don't have, I seek elsewhere, but I always start at that store first.

I am not sure if this is on purpose or if one aisle is organic, special etc. For example there are two tea and coffee sections. One is by the freezers the other is to the left of the store when you walk in. Why is this? I have no idea but their tea selection from their own brand is amazballs and I always stock up on at least 5 types of chai tea and whatever else is in season a the moment. The other Independent store in Whistler isn't as large and they frequently run out of the teas this store carries. The bakery is spot on awesome, we get our cakes from this location (they have more options than the one in Whistler) and they carry loads of different types of massive bags of naan. Their pre-made food section is also pretty impressive. If I were a tourist heading up to Whistler, stop here and get something! I spent the summer flying for San Juan Airlines and I would often find myself on Orcas Island…read moreneeding to get some food. I frequented their soup and hot bar and I was always left satisfied. They had good options, ranging from ribs, corn dogs, orange chicken, and taquitos, as well as different soups. Unlike everywhere else on Orcas Island, the food here was always a good price ans didn't feel like expensive, "island pricing". I understand many people come here to shop and I can say that the grocery prices seemed to be comparable to prices you'd find on the mainland at Fred Meyer. The staff was always nice and friendly and the store itself was clean, well kept and organized. Sitting right in the heart of Eastsound makes it quite convenient as well. I definitely appreciated the sitting area to eat my food from the hot bar in the front of the store. My only major gripe was though they had wifi, no employee over my months of visiting was ever able to recall what the password was to access it which I found quite annoying. Otherwise, its a good store with a good hot bar for a quick lunch!

After moving into Chilliwack a few years ago we didn't notice the place at first, until recently. Most large grocery stores have produce that has been sitting on the shelves for far too long. Nothing is worse than buying old produce that you know will already have a short life span in your fridge. Well, Hofstedes is different. The produce looks so appetizing, has vibrant colors and smells fresh. You feel like you want to cook with it right away or plain eat it right on the spot. Those green onions are beautiful. They almost look like little trees ... thick and deep green. They are super crunchy and have a great taste (great for salsas, salads or stir-fries). Other places have nothing on them. I am also a returning customer for...Granny Smith's apples. Always crisp, juicy and super tasty. The deli section is one of my favorite places as well. If you like a loaded sandwich, this is the place for it. Being from Europe myself, it is quite refreshing to see a number of European goodies that we make at home from time to time. Their vegan, organic, etc selection is surprisingly expansive as well as reasonably priced and their bulk bin section is so well-organized. Veggies always look great and are high quality. It's nice having locally grown sprouts and mixed greens available as well. They even have some lovely locally produced soaps, salt, and other items if you're looking for good gifts. Employees are friendly and helpful, check-out lines usually move pretty quickly, most of the time there is ample parking, and the restrooms are clean.
