Outdoor boot camp. You might not feel Marine-ready after, but you :will: feel like a bad-ass. On…read moreTuesday and Thursday, they offer Boot Camp and Zumba at 7pm, for $5. You'll pay, start with 5 laps, and a warm-up of jumping jacks, high-knees and so on. Then you'll split into groups of ~6-8 and start the real work-out. The day I went, it consisted of quick weight-lifting intervals done with makeshift equipment -- sand bags, heavy poles, etc. -- and/or body weight. I thought there was a good mix of upper- and lower-body focus. And my heart rate stayed up for most of the hour. Frankly, I thought the exercises could have been more challenging. But given the heat, and dirt, and bugs that come with working out outside, the less-intense level was kind of nice. The instructor offered some encouragement, and engaged with the group to keep us motivated, but also keep the mood light-hearted. There were about an equal number of girls and guys, and the group's fitness level was very diverse. So it's not too intimidating! Parking is kind of a pain-in-the-butt (my car got blocked in behind a few layers of late arrivals), but there's a neighboring lot that I noticed other people were spilling over into, so I'd recommend doing that.

A great place to get fit! I first started coming here…read morebecause of a livingsocial deal, but I can't get enough. The workouts are fun and challenging. My favorite classes are the extreme outdoor bootcamp and the full throttle class. At bootcamp you get pushed to your limits with burpees, hurdles, tire flipping, and more. Full throttle keeps cardio interesting with intervals the treadmill, row machine, strength exercises and more. I appreciate that it's affordable and you can walk -in without a membership (although they do have a membership option). Although I have a gym membership, I've found myself coming here more often than the gym.

I just finished doing a 6-week challenge with the folks at South Durham CrossFit and had an amazing…read moreexperience! My goal was the lose 6% body fat in 6 weeks and I ended up losing 7% body fat and 10 pounds in 5 weeks. I had many misconceptions about CrossFit that initially turned me off to signing up (i.e. its just for meatheads, you do complex movements with no instruction, there isn't any science/thought behind the workout plans), but my experience with the program, the people who were members, and the instructors couldn't be further from my initial thoughts. An extreme amount of thought and care went into designing the program. The meal plan, workouts, coaching and social support were expertly woven together to make for a seamless experience. It addressed every pitfall one might encounter when starting a new fitness program (sticking to a meal plan, meal prepping, losing motivation, stress) and made it as easy as possible to succeed. The members there were great. They were encouraging and friendly. Almost everyone I worked out with came up and introduced themselves to me, and were very helpful if I needed advice on a movement or was struggling with a workout. The coaches were experts. A special shout out to Amy Depolo and Jason Carley who I trained with most frequently during my challenge. Both were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and motivating. Both great as coaches and people you would want to grab a beer with after class. Overall I give the program an A+ and would encourage anyone who is looking to transform there body and commit to the program to join South Durham Crossfit.

In the four years I've been doing Crossfit, I've learned that each box struggles to find its voice…read more Bea and Rich have fixed this issue by offering a wide range of classes and coaches that can cater to those looking to lose weight, refine their Olympic lifts, or become a serious competitor. You are able to focus on your goals and gain motivation from the rest of the members without feeling like you are alone. But all of this is nothing if the gym, members, and coaches are not approachable and welcoming. That was the first thing I noticed about the gym and haven't looked back. With a focus on not only training hard but also doing things together outside of the gym it offers a community and support that is missing from some of the other boxes. Highly recommended to anyone looking to start their journey or to finally accomplish what you've been meaning to for years.

I have much less pain since beginning to work with Sam. She was able to diagnose the CAUSE of my pain and we have been working to fix that, as opposed to simply providing temporary pain relief. She is great about giving exercises to do at home which makes the time we do spend together very effective.

The benefits of having a goodnight's sleep and larger range of motion, allows room for a deep reset of so many limiting structures caused by negative mindset. Being passively stretched dispels perceived limitations in the body allowing it to recognize, that things really don't hurt as much as I thought they did. Being pain free, loose, are some of the benefits, but the highlight for me is the feeling of total and complete rejuvenation. If you're feeling stuck inside your body or inside your thoughts, I greatly recommend giving Thai Bodywork with Sam a chance, it's totally worth it!!

I was prompted to reach out after seeing an IG ad regarding a free fitness and weight program. I…read morewas offered 1 free workout class, but nothing else came at $0. I signed up for a weekly membership after turning down the several attempts by Coach Tre to sell me on Herbalife products. This was a Wednesday. Coach Tre then advised me to start my 1st class that Saturday. I was with it all the way until I was billed for a 2nd week @ $50+ a few days later. I attempted several times to contact Coach Tre and his wife, Coach Ashley, for resolution. Coach Tre responded but only directed me to his wife. I reached out to her and was advised they were on vacation and would deal with me the following Monday. Both of them only responded to my cancellation request and ignored the refund request. I had to again reach out stating I would like a refund. I was then advised they don't give them. I replied once again stating this was a justified refund as I was billed prematurely. No response. If you join, please be mindful of the day you join and that your membership starts then and NOT when the owner tells you to start your first class. I paid for 2 weeks and only had access for one week. I am owed the refund as Elevate dropped the ball and gave misleading information. They seem to be a great bunch of folks, but not big on customer service or ethical practices. More time is spent on the selling of Herbalife than spent explaining billing, the cancellation process, and how your membership actually works. Never tell a client when to come and then charge them for the days you told them NOT to. Also the area with weights and bars is unsafe. I went to get a bar as instructed and it felt like I was going through the aisles of Dollar General to get there.

Erica Dixon is one of the best Zumba instructors I've ever had, and I am very picky about my Zumba…read moreteachers. I do not like Zumba classes that feel like aerobics, and I have low tolerance for instructors who can't dance, who have no rhythm, and who can't tell the difference between the various genres of Latin and world music. I haven't encountered any of these problems with Erica. She keeps to the beat, she's very energetic, and she knows what's up. Her class is challenging, but you will have a lot of fun and you will sweat! Students with a dance background will appreciate her choreographies. And her music is awesome. No Pitbull! She plays soca, dancehall, reggaeton, West African music, hip hop, and r 'n b, plus authentic salsa and merengue, with accurate moves to match. One of her routines has a bhangra flavor too. When we do squats we do them to the go-go classic "Da Butt" Erica currently holds classes 4 times a week in 3 different locations in South Durham and RTP: Monday 7:30 pm at Learning Tots Academy, Tues 7:30 pm at Bethesda Elementary School (you have to go around to the back of the main school building! I learned this the hard way), Thurs 7:30 pm at the Bethesda Elementary School gymnasium (separate building from Tues nt's class), and Sat 9:30 am at Learning Tots. She also does some special events, and she sells Zumba gear. The walk-in rate for classes is $7 (going up to $8 soon though) and she offers discounted passes (punch cards) for 5 or 10 classes each. There are about 50 students at each of her classes! but there is plenty of room to move around, and her students come in all shapes and sizes, so don't be shy. Bring water and a sweat towel!
