I put him on the spot and asked him to produce a design right then and there, basically if it was your house, what would you do? As a tile contractor, I'm very detailed and picky, and can determine the experience level right out the gate. I recently purchased a house in Temecula that was in disrepair and had years of neglect. The front and rear landscaping was also in a sad state and needed a lot of help. A friend recommended Mike and I'm so thrilled that we went with him. Our front yard and backyard was a disaster! It was primarily dirt and old pavers. We have young children and were looking to create a space for them to play and also entertaining. Mike not only met our expectations, but exceeded them. We had them take out the grass. Remove the walkway and the structure above the walkway. Install a brick pavers walkway/patio. The grass was replaced with drought tolerant plants and decomposed granite with a drip system. We then added to the job. They painted the entire house and continued by fixing our backyard. We had what was left of the grass taken out. And replaced. They fixed the drains and put in new and improved sprinklers along with moving the play set which was a huge project in itself. We hired Re-Leaf to remove grass, pour a cement patio, and do some landscaping (planter, etc.). The planter area was nicely done and the concrete came out good. The people doing the work were considerate and mindful (such as suggesting the pattern in the concrete, asking if plant placement was acceptable, and asking for clarification as they went along). Aside from the general good work from the main workers, the landscaper (Mike) did not take detailed notes when providing the estimate therefore forgetting that we asked for some specific details and wanted to charge more as we went along. He did not take care of the patch of lawn we wanted to keep, and did not take care of the edging around the newly poured concrete - leaving an unfinished look. Also, we did not appreciate his condescending attitude particularly toward my wife. He was snickering when she asked for low maintenance plants, made a big deal about us wanting to stay within a budget - and acting like that was why he wasn't making helpful suggestions, and didn't seem to want to talk to her about details as the work progressed. Hard to explain the subtleties but my wife felt it was difficult to work with him. When we asked about drains for the cement, he didn't take that into consideration for the estimate and we had to pay more for it. We broke ground a few weeks later on our start date and our backyard turned out to be a total can of worms, whoever had done it before us had no idea what they were doing, it was horrible! Our original concrete (2200 sq. ft.) ended up being around 8-10" thick in most areas! Mike and Re-Leaf Landscape is simply awesome. I woke up Friday with a broken water valve and a very wet backyard. I had to turn of the water at the main to stop the leak. I called Mike at 6:15 am and he returned my call by 6:45am. He was busy and recommended that I call another local company but to call back if I did not have any luck. I called the two other companies neither of whom would be able help until Monday. I called Mike back at about 8:15 hoping and praying he would be able to help. Thank goodness he was willing and able to help. By 9:30 he had diagnosed the problem and let me know he would be back later the same day to fix the issue. It is tough to find honest and knowledgeable contractors in today's market. We hired Michael and Re-Leaf landscape to do a paver project in our new backyard swimming pool. The project included laying pavers inside of an area where our new fire pit and outdoor kitchen would be installed. Michael helped us verify that we had enough pavers on order as well as a pre-site inspection. Re-Leaf landscaping was able to work around existing garden walls to lay the pavers. Michael suggested a soldier course around our area which really enhanced the design. This was no easy task as the existing landscape walls were curved.
