I had just come out from Shoppers Drug Mart and noticed this RBC Royal Bank in the sample plaza. Nice! I put away my items in my car. I didn't bother driving over to the bank. I wanted to test out my hip after straining it a couple of hours earlier, so I walked over. The hip was okay as I made my way over to this branch. From the exterior, this bank is long. It does not have a drive-thru. I headed over to the main entrance. It does not have a button for accessibility to open the doors. You do need to tug at one of the door handles. The second set of doors to the ATMs were already propped open. I did see an accessibility button to open those sets of doors. Such a weird design for accessibility. I will say that the doors were wide enough for a wheelchair to clear them. I made a cash deposit. I inserted my client card, entered my PIN, and then selected deposit. I like that RBC ATMs scan bills well. It accurately tallied up my bills and my deposit was done. The ATM area was clean and bright. I appreciated it. I was here at around 7:30 pm on a Wednesday night. The branch had closed for the day. It's open on weekdays at 9:30 am and closes at 5 pm, with the exception of Thursdays and Fridays when this place closes at 8 pm and 6 pm, respectively. On Saturdays, it's open at 9 am and closes at 4 pm. The branch is closed on Sundays. I'm glad that this branch exists. I visit this plaza mainly for Shoppers Drug Mart. I got a prime parking spot and made my way inside the branch. I held the door for an older gentleman. He thanked me and we had a brief conversation. I liked it, as it makes you feel like it's a small neighbourhood of folks looking out for one another. This branch has four ATMs. I was impressed! No waiting at all. Both the gentleman and I did our banking there, along with an existing customer pressing away at the screen. This branch is huge and inviting! It makes me want to call this branch my home one. (212)

The mandate of this bank was to eliminate fees and operate without brick-and-mortar stores. Back then, the main headquarters was on Gordon Baker Drive. Scotiabank acquired ING Direct years later, which ultimately became Tangerine. A few years ago, I was unhappy with my bank of choice where I opened up a couple of accounts in Winnipeg. I decided to open a chequing account with Tangerine and transfer practically all my financial accounts over here. I have been happy with Tangerine ever since. Tangerine has its main headquarters at Steeles Avenue East, on the south side, just west of Victoria Park Avenue. It's oddly not all that far away from its old location on Gordon Baker. I pass by this building often. It's diagonally across from Don Valley North Toyota. It's on my way to ZeeV's Nutrition Studio. I definitely cut through the backroad to get to Shan Shan Cafe and Kung Fu Tea. I have never had to visit the main headquarters for anything. However, if you do need assistance opening an account, you can come here. The parking lot requires that you pay. If you are a Tangerine customer, you can get a parking pass, which waives the parking fee. It is a bit weird to ask for one, rather than making parking free right off the bat. Perhaps the building always had private parking and making it public would not be simple. This building also has Freshii and Tim Hortons. Both customers and Tangerine employees can eat healthy and indulge in donuts, respectively. A year ago, I worked with a Tangerine financial representative over the phone to move my RRSPs (Registered Retirement Savings Plans) from my old bank to Tangerine. I had a knowledgeable man help me out. He was working from home thanks to the pandemic. The weird thing was that he saw my employer's name on file and said that his son did an internship there. I asked who his son was. It turned out that I had worked closely with his son before he headed back to university for his final year. Small world! The apple doesn't fall from the tree. Both were and likely are still chatty guys. It is rare that I need to speak to anyone at Tangerine. I tend to do all my regular banking online or withdraw money at any Scotiabank ABM. When I do need a human to talk to, it's for my RRSPs, or that one time when my debit card looked like I had chewed on it as a snack and needed a replacement. With the latter, I got my replacement card within days and was happy. The best part about being a Tangerine customer is getting my paycheque directly deposited into my chequing account a day before the official payday. My payday is biweekly on Thursday. When I moved over to Tangerine, my pay was available after 9 pm on Wednesday. Roughly half a year ago, it got moved up to just before 6 pm on Wednesday. I'd like to thank Tangerine's IT department for running their nightly builds early. I feel like I've won the jackpot every pay period! Tangerine is awesome. Should I ever need help opening a future account and need to speak to someone in-person, I can always come here. It's probably a fifteen-minute drive from my home. (97)

I was told I had to set up a link and send my ID to them. I did not accept sending my ID just to switch banks linked to my account. I was told Calgary branches were all closed so I could not do it in person. I was directed by supervisor Marissa to verify a deposit made to my bank from Tangerine as a security measure and call her back. I spent hours on hold, nobody could transfer my call to Marissa, and then, she did not call me back as promised. Supervisor Will finally resolved it. I raised the stars to reflect it. Hold times are very long.

The ones in the branch were operational There was a person in the branch, sitting down, looking at her phone. I couldn't tell if she was a customer or a staff member. She did look bored. The branch hours are decent. It's open at 9:30 am most days, except for Saturdays when it's open at 9am. This branch is closed on Sundays. This branch closes most days at 5 pm. It stays open late on Thursdays until 8 pm and Fridays till 6 pm. As mentioned, it closes at 4 pm on Saturdays. This RBC is wheelchair-accessible. There is a button to open the door. The sidewalk allows you to roll up and down it to get to the branch, which is helpful. It's a decent branch. It was nice getting a brief look at it. (75)

I learned two things that I didn't pay attention to whenever I shopped at Fresh Co. - There's a Tim Hortons with a drive-thru - There's this RBC branch with a drive-thru Yes, this plaza has two businesses with their own drive-thru across from each other. I just made this discovery after shopping here for at least a year. I do live under a rock. This RBC has decent hours. It opens at 9:30 am most mornings, except for Saturday (9 am) and Sunday (closed). It closes at 5 pm Monday through Wednesday. Hours lengthen on Thursday (8 pm) and Friday (6 pm), and shorten on Saturday (4 pm). I got here when the branch had closed. However, the drive-thru was available. I checked it out. There was one vehicle in front of me. It allowed me to fetch my RBC debit card from my purse. The drive-thru has a boxy, wide lane. When it was my turn to approach the ATM, I pulled up wide to it. It was my first time backing up at a drive-thru at any bank to get closer to the ATM. It was good that I was the only customer at the drive-thru. It also was perfect to not get out of the car and use the ATM that way. The ATM was operational. I was able to do my transaction without any issues. I do like RBC ATMs because they allow you to deposit USD bills. You don't have to see a teller to have your currency exchanged for CAD, but the machine exchange does take longer (it converts the funds a business day later) than if you had a human being doing it. I walked over to the main entrance and realized that it's just for branch services. They were closed on Saturday. I walked around to figure out where the ABMs were. From simply walking around the branch's exterior, this branch is huge! Finally, I found the other entrance to both the ABMs and main branch. I walked in and three ABMs greeted me. The lobby is exceptionally clean. Spotless! There was also a garbage bin. Nice! I got my money out of the ABM just fine. This branch has the new machines where you don't need envelopes to make deposits. Additionally, more of these machines are dispensing $5 bills. It's a nice throwback to when I banked with Royal Bank and smaller bill denominations were dispensed. I like it! There is plenty of parking. It was nice to finally stop by and check this branch out.
