Pros: - Calamari (not pictured) was awesome with a lovely spice to it, 5/5. - Creamy seafood linguine had a little too much thyme for my liking but a solid 4/5. - Crab cakes were great, fresh and crispy 5/5. - Halibut fish and chips were solid, the fries have a lovely battered crisp to it, and the coleslaw was surprisingly well balanced 4.5/5. - Seafood chowder (not pictured) looks gross but tastes great 4.5/5. - Cool decor and great view of the small boat harbor. - Above average service with a friendly waitress and fairly swift fulfillment of food orders. Cons: - pricey (but that is Seward) Overall: I withheld 5 stars as I think that should be reserved for places that really blow you away with the combination of food, service, and value. What a great restaurant! I was there as part of the Kendall Auto Group annual fishing trip and got to experience true high quality Alaska seafood. I had the brandy glazed Wild Alaskan halibut. OMG good. We had so many appetizers to share I can't remember them all, but I know the crab cakes, calamari and crabs and artichoke dip were some of them. All GREAT! When in Seward, go to Rays. Need to know - Ray's is serving lunch and dinner. They are located just above the small boat harbor which is very entertaining. Most seats are staggered so there is a nice view from every table. About 4:00 PM the fisherman and tour boats start coming which makes Ray's very busy. So send a member of your party to get you on the list. The Menu is varied but not cleaver. No foodie paradise. Just basic decent seafood and steaks. I enjoy the drinks (which have gotten outrageous in price, $18 for a 16 oz margarita .served over a glass of ice). But one was my limit. My husband's steak was well presented very rare. The sauté was delicious. Salads were crisp. The Caesar was awful. I am sorry but even the teenagers pushed it away. I then taught them to always ask for a taste of the Caesar. You should always ask no matter where you dine as Caesar dressing varies so much. Anyway, I digress. Ray's is a gem for Seward. You enjoy a drink, some good food and your parter or friends. It is especially enjoyable after a day out on the water fishing or sightseeing. read more

Today my wife and I made our first trip to Seward. Ray's was recommended by the staff at the Seward Military Resort. The view from the dining area was fantastic. I ordered a bowl of chowder, fish tacos and an I.P.A. My wife ordered a cup of chowder and the halibut sandwich. My chowder was just warm. My wife never got hers. My fish tacos were OK, just OK. Salsa would have helped. My wife's piece of halibut was about 1/2 the size of the bread. The bread was hard, and could have used some sort of spread. On a good note the I.P.A. was very good. We drove back to Palmer and fixed a dinner of halibut that we had purchased in Anchorage. Enough said. read more

We spent two weeks in Alaska, Ray's Waterfront had the best service and some of the best food that we had the whole trip thanks to our server Stan. Ray's had plenty of options for our kid and even things to color. The cod and chips were prepared perfectly and we loved the sourdough bread with dip. Took a day trip to Seward in early September 2020 and came here for a late lunch. Our friends and families have enjoyed this place for many years. The view of the harbor is always an attraction while you dine. My friend and I had the halibut fish and chips and enjoyed it. Our table service was attentive and good. We had a nice window table and were able to watch some anglers on the boat slips catch coho salmon on lures. During Covid-19 times, staff wore face masks but didn't enforce patrons to wear them while entering and leaving the restaurant. They did sanitize the tables after each seating. read more

I got the seafood linguine. Not much food for $36. The shrimp and scallops were overcooked. The scallops were very small and looked and tasted old. The dish overall didn't have very much flavor. Also ordered the calamari which was good. The crab cake was ok, tasted mostly like fried batter. I didn't taste any crab. The restaurant is mostly for the scenery not the food. Would not go back. We revisited Ray's on our most recent trip to Seward. We came for the King Crab, and it was delicious. It tasted fresh, sweet, and I absolutely loved how they cut the tops off the legs. However, the positive feedback ends there. My husband and I split the crabcake appetizer, and we were not impressed. It's more filler than anything. Definitely not worth the $18.95 price tag. We also split a bowl of the Hearty Seafood Chowder and found the consistency to be similar to wallpaper paste. The flavor wasn't there either. Long drive south of Anchorage to get here but worth it if you're doing the boat tour thing and like to pair the mariner activities with a little seafood themed cuisine. Salmon is delicious and savory, but the flavors of the miso cod reminded me of a sweet teriyaki fish bowl dish you'd get at a big city Asian teriyaki restaurant just served on a plate. In from Myrtle Beach, SC and checking out what Seward has to offer...I read Ray's reviews and decided this was the spot. Started with 1 lb of King Crab legs. Now, I'm from Boston and raised on lobsta ... this wasn't too bad. A bit more pricey than lobsta, $100 for the crab....got it for an app. It's not much meat....I believe in trying to eat and drink local...I had the Fisherman's chowder...wow! Packed full of flavor. Cod, shrimp, scallops, mussels and little neck clams all in a tomato based brew with celery, onion and a spicy kick. Highly recommended! Seated quickly (about 20 minutes). read more

The views at Ray's waterfront are incredible. That being said, without reservations on a weekday night, expect to wait about an hour to be seated (you can walk around and explore other shops though so that's fine)! The staff are all really kind however the food isn't the best we had in anchorage. The salmon we got was a little on the dry side and the drinks were more syrup tasting than anything else. This would make for a cute date spot but the food isn't the best and you definitely pay the premium for the views. I think this was our most expensive dinner in 2 weeks traveling Alaska read more

You can't beat Ray's in Seward. Beautiful harbor views and good food. The staff is also very kind! I got the salmon on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes with roasted veggies and my gosh it was good!! Fantastic seafood restaurant in Seward. The town of Seward has a heart beat for the summer, this restaurant and many other are only open in summer. The restaurant is absolutely packed because of the arguably the best place for seafood. It opens at 5, our group waiting in line for a half and hour at the door in order to try to get a window seat which is of course now guaranteed. We have reservations for 7 and when we arrived the restaurant said that the dinner party was done with their food but they are still sitting at the table. We waited for anyway from 30-45 minutes for the table to leave. General note for everyone, don't be rude to others, if you are done with your meal take your conversation elsewhere so others can have a chance to enjoy the dinner experience as well. As far as the food and the service, everything was fantastic! It doesn't get any better than eating seafood in a window seat, staring at Mount Alice! I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Rays had great service and pretty solid food for a hefty price. The place did have a nice location, right on the water. I had one of their halibut dishes with a curry sauce and the seafood chowder. When nothing else was open on a Tuesday, we came here. Please don't. You'll spend way more than you need and leave horribly underwhelmed. You'll notice a general theme - everything was way overcooked. If you absolutely need to come here, maybe get a salad or the chicken? We should have known it was going downhill when our ahi tuna appetizer was over-cooked and sliced the wrong way (you shouldn't see the fatty grains when you eat ahi). It was super chewy. My friend ordered the ribs special - super fatty and overcooked as well. The veggies were unseasoned and under done. The mashed potatoes weren't great. And the biggest let down - I wanted to treat myself to an Alaska king crab dinner. The second the dish was served, I knew they were horribly over cooked. I paid $85 for rubbery king crab. Ray's is on the waterfront. We were recommended to go there by our tour guide. We were seated close to a window so our view was great. Excellent ambiance! However, we were freezing! We had been hiking before dinner, and it was a beautiful day (sunny and mid-60's) and yet there was this dreadfully cold breeze more often than not. We asked to be moved, and eventually we were given a window seat. It was a little warmer. We ordered the bread with dipping oil. It was the best part of the meal. Very yummy. We split a salad which was large enough for two people. And I was looking for a piece of broiled fish but most fish were fried or sauced, so I went with the fish and chips. I substituted the chips with broccolini and cilantro rice. The waitress brought out the large salads and the fish entree all at the same time which was a total disappointment. And she forgot the extra salad plate so we ate off the serving plate. For $125 it seems like the waitress would have told the kitchen manager, that timing was unacceptable. So now I have one large salad plate, one large fish plate, one medium plate of cold broccolini, one medium plate of rice in front of me as well as a glass of water! What a mess! Totally unenjoyable. Why they didn't plate my order on one plate, I don't know. But I do know why she brought the salads out with the entree when I politely asked. She said the kitchen staff gets off at 4pm and they were anxious to leave!! So here is my thought. If the staff is that anxious to leave perhaps Ray's should close between 3 and 5? read more

Usually love this place but went and surprised my fiancé for a nice dinner and all fish was overcooked. Got the halibut Oscar and so did my friend and both dishes were overcooked. My fiancés salmon was also overcooked. The drinks were tasty (blueberry mojito is very good) and the appetizers are always great.
