We were hungry and in search of a meal passing through Green River and happened upon Ray's Tavern. My wife had an awesome chicken sandwich and I had a burger with fresh cut fries. What a wonderful meal! We sat at the counter on Thursday last week. We were heading on our way to Grand Junction and my wife realized she didn't leave a tip! If you want fancy, keep driving to Vail. If you want a decent meal in a cozy local dive joint then this is the place! No one stops in green river for gourmet; this is just about the only restaurant in town. Had the bacon cheeseburger which was really good and delicious homemade fries. Also tried the chicken teriyaki dinner plate and it was very tasty - juicy chicken & delicious baked potato. Service was friendly and they had a decent selection of local beer. Having tasted cheeseburgers and fries all across the US, IMO, there is no better than Ray's Tavern in Green River Utah. Everything on the menu is good, but the cooked to perfection burgers and hand cut fries are why I stop at Rays on every trip through Green River. We came here for dinner after a full day of amazing hikes down in Moab. My crew was craving burgers, fries, and beer(root beer for the littles). We got there and the place was PACKED, but we got a table quick. The service was the BEST I have ever received and more impressive was it being as packed as it was! As AMAZING as the service their food was even better. The teriyaki chicken sandwich was on point, my husband had his bacon cheeseburger gone before I could steal a bite, and the kid followed suit with their mother's decision on the teriyaki chicken sandwich.....next we have to talk about the French fries, their homemade French fries OMGoodness!!! I haven't been through here in at least 25 years, but remembered Ray's and so we had to stop. The burger and fries were as good as I remember - cooked to order on a flame grill, nicely charred, with hand cut fries. They even have a squeeze bottle of fry sauce because we are, after all, still in Utah even though off the beaten path. Ray's is a dive with seriously good food. Stopped here on our way to Wyoming. What a great surprise. Friendly, local atmosphere, great vibe and friendly service. I had the rib eye. My 14 year old bragged about the mahi mahi, my wife thoroughly enjoyed the 10 oz filet mignon ( A FULL OZ, POSSIBLY BIGGER), my daughter devoured her giant cheeseburger while the rest of us feasted on delicious ribeyes. I'm a small town where there were only a handful of options to eat, we stopped by Ray's Tavern, which looks like a bar/family restaurant. Place got busy after we arrived. Menu options were between affordable burger plates and more expensive steak dishes. We opted for the burgers which are the most popular items and we were not disappointed. Burgers were big and juicy. Fries were home made and home cut which means they don't use the frozen stuff. They basically give you the bread and meat and everything else on the side that way you can assemble the burger as you like with your favorite dressings. The burger was a pre made frozen burger with processed cheese and bacon slices so thin I had to search the burger to find it. I found it under the thin square of cheese. The fries were good. My friends fish was good but was supposed to get an extra salad because there were no baked potatoes and he didn't want fries . Been here several times, Rays is an easy choice with all the other options now being fast food. The other two resturants have closed but I would still go to ray's anyway. the prices are a little high for a burger and fries up to mid 20 range for a good steak. They have a great patio outside and grill during the summer. Make sure you drive up to swasey beach north west of town, the green river you drive by on the freeway and the green river up by the canyon are complete opposites. read more

Went here after a rafting trip on the Green River like many other reviewers here. Even though i was hungry and tired of camping food, crackers and cheese type stuff, i was still not that impressed by this place. It's pretty divey, menu has very few choices and it's pricey for what it is. The portions are large though, but bland. I feel like they focus on quantity not quality, since the food was just ok. I ordered a pork chop with dinner salad. The chop was ok, tasted very bland and too well done but it was ok. Fries, meh but ok. Not enough salt, none whatsoever. I am generally a giant fan of fries, but these i couldn't finish. Too big and too soft, not crunchy at all. Then the the dinner salad, i took one bite and i couldn't eat any more of it. I would compare Ray's dinner salad to a salad they give you on an airplane swimming with standard grocery store dressing, blandest salad leaves ever and a couple of other things thrown on there (canned olives anyone?). Too much dressing, too little flavor. Probably one of the worst salads i've ever had anywhere. But there might be something to save this place, i thought. The microbrewery beers they were offering. I ordered a heffeweisen and was disappointed again. Due to Utah's ridiculous alcohol policies, the beer was "fake" meaning about 2% alcohol content. Might as well be for kids. It was refreshing, but not what i was looking for. Overall, if i was in town again, i would look elsewhere, although there may not be many choices. So might have to come here again and just suck it up. Redeeming factor: cool fun t shirts on the walls with fun river trip images. And the ridiculously clean bathroom. Seriously, the cleanest bathroom i've ever seen in a pub. Come here on your own risk, or better yet - bring your own spices and seasonings. read more

Green River isn't far from the middle of nowhere. We'd come in for gas and supplies after a long spell of camping in the desert. We smelled. We couldn't have looked savory. Everyone was super nice. I'd rank the burger, on a burger scale of 1-10, as a 1,000,000. It was perfect in every way. The french fries were to die for. They had the perfect ratio of crispness to greasiness. Nancy is an awesome cook, and has burgers nailed. However, Ray's serves up burgers that are supernatural. This place is a force of nature. 5 stars for location, consistency and excellence. They've been here since 1948. I've eaten here after every trip to the maze district. After n-days of hiking a Ray's Burger really hits the spot and after all the sun its nice to sit in the dark and have a cold pint. The beer has sure improved since I first started eating here in the early 90s. On a trip with the kids we hit Rays on our way in and out. Both times we were all satisfied.
