I'm here for work from Houston. I love trying new burgers. This burger and fries combo did not meet expectations. The burger had little taste besides the miracle whip on it. I got a fries/onion rings combo- the fries were not even hot and the room temp onion rings were ok. I was super hungry and exhausted and wanted to try this place because it was recommended. If you looking for more flavor and just overall tastiness then this is unfortunately not the place. read more

I had not been here in years, so decided to give it a try! It was just ok...Nothing too spectacular. The menu has a lot of fried foods and a few salads. I got the shrimp club salad because it's really the only thing from there I like. My parents would take us as kids so it brought back a few memories. I love a good burger and, when I first came to East Texas, I decided I should find the best they have. First, by going here, you will get a bit of the old time diner experience. You park under a carport and wait for a carhop to come to you. If that isn't your thing, go have a seat inside. For under ten dollars you can get a burger, fries, and a drink. I was surprised you could get a meal that good for about the same as any trip to Whataburger. From what I understand, it's a family owned business and some employees have even been there long enough to see their children get a part time job there. Great way to support local business. One of the more unique restaurant we have visited. Old timey car hop service is available outside or dine inside where the restaurant is decorated with old memorabilia. Exceptionally clean and a fun place to be. I had the Ray's special with cheese which is a double meat double cheese burger at about $5.50. The patties are all hand pressed fresh each morning and this burger totally shows their attention to detail. This is probably the best burger I've ever had in my life totally melting with flavor. We also had fresh hand breaded onion rings and my wife had a smaller burger with the same experience. The prices are modest especially considering what you get. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Lufkin area and I know for sure I will definitely be back when I am there again. read more

I love Rays! It has the best burgers in Lufkin! I will be stopping by soon as I'm making a long awaited trip to visit my family, and this is one of the places I want to eat while I'm in town. Ray's burgers are delicious, but for me, what takes the cakes are their delicious onion rings! Also, you can get an old-fashioned vanilla coke! This is one of the few places that still squirts pumps of vanilla syrup in your coke instead of having the Coca cola version. I also love the ice that comes in the cups, I tend to drink all of the soda, and then eat all of the crushed ice :) read more

Rays burger was good but nothing extraordinary. Kellers hamburgers and many others put them to shame. The onion rings were cold, and the second attempt was too hard to chew really. I think they just refried them, which is among many other things, highly unsanitary. It may be good for this little ghetto town, but if I ever come back through I'll pass on by. The last time I ate at Ray's I asked for a burger with everything on it hold the mayo. They asked if I wanted mustard. I said yes. I received a hamburger with mustard on it on a bun...that's it. I was afraid to send it back for fear of it being spit in. I have eaten at Ray's many times in the past 15 years when I pass through Lufkin. This place is a must if you're in Lufkin. The staff is always so nice and friendly. Everything that I've eaten at Rays left me anticipating my next time in town. The burgers are delicious and the onion rings are everything one should be. They also have great fish sandwiches and fries. I have no complaints. We stopped by and we're greeted at the drive in right away but it was our first time there so we decided to go inside so we could check out the menu more. Awesome menu with very good prices. As far as the burger goes, this is a five star burger. I had the Ray's special and it was outstanding. I had a bite of my wife's western burger and it was excellent as well. The onion rings were overly chewy and not real quality. The tater tots were good but if you got them with cheese, it looked like they threw some grated cheese on them and half the cheese melted and half stayed grated. The girl at the front who took our order looked like she was either having a bad day or needs to not deal with people because she wasn't very friendly. While I like the nostalgic feel of the drive in, I'm just not a fan of the food. The staff is always friendly and prompt. The food comes out hot every time. Prices are decent for what it is. I keep going back there to try something I may enjoy with no luck. While I know people who love the food there, I just don't enjoy it as much. This should not take away from the fact that it is a popular place with a long heritage in the local area and I encourage people to try it anyway. read more

Historical Lufkin landmark!!! Even though I no longer live in Lufkin anymore I still make frequent trips to see my family. I grew up eating at Ray's Drive-In & Ray's Drive-In is always on my list of Resturants I have to eat at while im in town. Ive eaten at SEVERAL burger joints all over Texas & California and I can say there is only one Rays Drive-In. Ray's does a great old-fashioned burger, better than anything you can get from the fast-food franchises, but I only rate them 2nd tier compared to some of the other places in town. I remember when I was a kid my grandpa would give my mom a buck and tell her to get me a Ray's Special, that was years ago, and I don't know if the dollar covered the whole thing, but the sentiment alone is priceless. read more

Here's my feedback Ordered a Cheeseburger - where is the beef? All bread! Guess I am accustomed to a Fuddruckers style where one can taste the beef. This is at the other end of the spectrum. Too thin. Onion rings had a pasty, bland taste. On the positive side, the French Fries were good and the milkshake was thick but they use Blue Bell Ice cream which means high fructose corn syrup. I would personally would not return or recommend this restaurant based on the food experience we just had for lunch. read more

We were on a road trip and stopped in Ray's for burgers and they were delicious!! Highly recommend the Texas Burger.

Ordered 3 double meat cheese burgers Juniors...cheese mustard and pickles only and a double meat regular no tomatoes. The juniors came with cheese, pickles, mustard, lettuce and tomatoes. Quick fix just scrap it off...but they also had mayonnaise. I don't like mayonnaise but I was starving and just ate it anyway. Then the couple behind me and my family got up to take their order back. As we are finishing up are meal the older gentleman in front of us got up to return his meal because it was wrong too. Total count was 3 wrong orders (that I knew of) with a redo for the couple behind us that was also wrong again. Over all taste was wonderful and they had Sonic style ice for the drinks and you had to pay $0.25 for a drink refill. The fact that they couldn't get anyone's order right made me give Ray's 2 stars. read more

I had heard that Ray's was the place for burgers in Lufkin. My experience was mixed. The interior is bright and clean with a well done 50's decor. Not tacky. There is an oudtoor patio. The menu is extensive but I wanted a burger and onion rings. The onion rings were breaded just right. Light and crispy, not the dense sort of cracker crumb type crust you get with frozen rings. I was somewhat disappointed with the cheeseburger. The patty was just so-so. Not charred or particularly well seasoned. It just didn't have a lot of flavor. No crusty char on the meat. Seemed to be steamed instead of grilled although I'm sure that it was cooked on a griddle. This place deserves another visit from me, but I will probably try some other items as I can get a better burger at other places. read more

Best burger in east Texas. Good stuff. Get those chilli cheese fires. So good. Rays special burger is highly recommended. Good place to take the kids. The onion rings are greasy but really good. On the recommendation of a local, my business colleague and I had lunch there. Pulled up to the drive-in, and a waitress immediately appeared. We asked about eating inside, and she directed us to the parking beside the building. The interior was surprisingly cute, comfortable, and very clean. It is decorated like a 50's diner. We ordered at the counter and each had a Ray's Special Junior (a double meat cheeseburger) and onion rings. The burger looked plain, but turned out to be piping hot, juicy, and really delicious. When I'm in the Lufkin area, I always make it a point to stop by here. It is way better than any of the national fast food chains. Love the car hop service and please people tip the car hops well as they do a lot of work making sure that your order gets taken and brought out to you in a timely manner. My personal favorites are the steak finger basket, the chili cheeseburger and the their frito pie. read more
