Ric M. RP, NJ Second experience. Second review submitted 6 months after job completion. Fast forward several years after the roof leak they fixed. Needed an entire new roof on a big house with dormers, flat and steep sides. Despite my positive experience with this company, I did my due diligence did my roofing research online and contacted about 10 companies and got about 6 estimates. Ray roofing came in second highest with the lowest being half the price. However, Ray's honest responses to my bait questions led me back to his business. 1st Even though I started getting quotes in December, he told me roofing in the cold months is not preferred and I should hold off till late March or April if I could (all others told me cold is not an issue at all in a rush to get the job). 2nd. Many of the lowball estimates were going to throw another roof layer on top of the three already there telling me "It's all the same" even though warrantees are half as long for that process. Third the quote included the grade of materials (note: not all shingles are the same) he would be using and why. (FYI, materials delivered were exactly those quoted). Third he had the lowest estimate of plywood they would need, which told me they were not gouging me on precious plywood. Took the day off to "supervise" the job start to finish. Even went on the roof a couple of times to watch and ask the crew questions (yes, I am that guy. Lol). I was a little worried at first because the team that came appeared to be a subcontractor. However, as the day went on, I could not have been happier with their professionalism and the quality of work they performed. They were on time, in frequent contact with Mr. Ray, respectful of my neighbors' property, asked me what time they could start making noise and performed quiet tasks until then, and were very diligent (even when they did not know I was watching). For example, I watched one worker painstakingly tap every two inches of my flat roof with a hammer and all the edges of the slanted roof looking for rotted wood. I watched another taking his time to making sure the shingles around my awkward dormers were laid correctly. They were also very frugal with replacing plywood, cutting out what was bad and leaving what was good. They worked fast and carefully, not damaging my landscaping and picking up all debris and garbage. My grumpy neighbor has not gotten a flat from nails left behind. Most impressive, was that George said, if you have any problems with the roof, call me and I will have someone come over immediately. Two weeks later I noticed water coming down between my roof and my gutters. Called George, he listened nondefensively and sent someone out before the close of business, who took pictures to show me the roof overhang was correct, but my gutter was misaligned. He pushed and glued the edge of the gutter back up against facia and told me if it still happens when it rains, he will come back. So far, no need to call him back. This project was the largest I have had done on a house and so far it appears to have been done correctly. More importantly Ray roofing has stood behind their work. I am fifty-three, so I will probably not need another roof of this magnitude and hopefully will not need too many repairs. However, I will be keeping Ray Roofing in my phone book to refer friends and family. read more
