Bang bang shrimp and Hamachi Carpaccio- top items of the night!
    Jenna D.

Good sushi for an island. I expected more of a variety and something FRESH. When we asked the sushi chef about fresh fish and if he had any "fun" options, he said "no, we don't carry anything beyond the average sushi items." This means yellowtail, tuna, salmon, shrimp, fake crab, and snapper. Compliments on what we ordered tho, it was good. The main sushi chef was nice and fun to talk to (we sat at the bar). However, he left after we received our order and the two remaining did not even make eye contact with us. Duds. The place was crowded but we arrived just before everyone and the number of customers had no effect on our ordering.

We had dinner at Raw during a recent trip to St. Thomas. Our first impressions were good: nice staff, menu looked good, and they had a happy hour menu. However, we also saw that there were only 6 fish available, one of which was boiled shrimp (which we never eat). A pretty unimpressive line-up for a sushi bar. We started with the miso soup, RAWkin' tacos, and a red snapper maki roll. The soup was good, the tacos better (we added a 4th taco so we each had two). The tuna in the tacos was good, but the overall taco was just OK. The over abundant sauce drowned out the fish. That was the beginning of a trend for the evening. The red snapper maki roll was small (happy hour size) so no real bargain there. It was also our first taste of the rice used at the restaurant, not so good. That issue continued throughout the evening. We also started with a carafe of hot sake, which was tasty. We had several carafes throughout the evening! :-) We moved to the regular menu and ordered the hamachi carpaccio. The dish included the fresh hamachi, asian slaw, arugula, and sliced jalapeno. No sauce on this plate, so the fish was the star. Fresh and served at the right temperature. We ordered sashimi next: salmon, (more) hamachi, red snapper, and tuna. The fish was good, all tasted fresh. We moved on to specialty rolls next, and tried the Four Tuna and Don't Vessup rolls. Both rolls suffered from the rice deficiency noted above. The seemed old, a bit dried out, and simply not the quality one would expect at a top-notch sushi place. Both rolls also suffered from the over-abundance of spicy aioli sauce. Not sure why sushi places do that... the good ones don't. Service was OK, not great. The sushi chefs were responsive, but our waitress (who we think was new) was pretty slow. For the prices charged, we expected much better-quality food. Raw missed the mark on quality and available fish. With so many dining options in the area, we won't be back.

So delicious and exactly what I was craving. Unfortunate mixup when I came to get my order. But all in all fantastic. Fresh and yummy. I would recommend.

We came here for dinner one night after trying to come a night earlier, but they weren't open even though online sites said they should've been open. Honestly, the service was horrible, and we had much better sushi at Citifield while watching a Mets game. We ordered the miso soup, iguana go home, surf n' turf roll, jammin' salmon roll and fourtuna roll.

Being from New York, we have some pretty awesome sushi restaurants. But this one?? Outstanding. The food is delicious- perfect combinations with sushi and perfect size- the pieces are nice to bite into because they don't fall apart. We recommend the spicy tuna on crispy rice, the goin back to cali roll, the rolling rainbow roll, and the off da hook roll (all pictured). The service was quick and very accommodating- and they also recommended items that they enjoyed. The ambiance is nice- we went for our dim light date night on vacation together. Tip- The restaurant is a bit small so try to make reservations beforehand!

My family and I went to Raw last night. We did not have reservations but the host was Great! He checked and was able to seat us. The waitress we had was amazing! The food was really good also. I highly recommend Raw!

Snagged a spot on a Monday night at the sushi bar, though I would recommend reservations if possible as it can get pretty busy. Interior is very new and cozy. We ordered a couple of drinks, poke bowls and the miso shellfish roll. Drinks were great, my favorite was the matsuyama mule as it was very refreshing in this warmer weather. I was a bit disappointed in the miso shellfish roll, it boasted lobster-crab-shrimp salad, but only tasted of imitiaton crab meat. On the other hand, the poke bowls were top notch. Fish was very fresh and the toppings added wonderful contrast to the bowl. Not bad for being right in the heart of red hook, its worth a shot if you're here.

My partner and I went to raw and had a perfectly good experience. We made a reservation, which was very much needed. Also, if you've haven't been in the area parking can be challenging. Give it a couple of drive thrus and you'll find something. I got the teriyaki chicken which I thought was gonna be a bit more substantial. It was hella yummy although you only get one strip. I honestly could've eaten five of these. I also got a bowl of white steamed rice. The rice was weirdly cold and dry. My friend got the surf and turf roll which had steak and crab. He said it was good but the rice also was on the dry side. The restaurant itself was very clean and everyone was nice. We'd come back and try other things with a better informed opinion.

Read before going. There is cockroach I saw 3, on the bar I noticed this once I was done with the food. The food was good, I didn't have a reservation, I was seated on the bar.

A little gem tucked away in this bar-laden area. It was a welcome change of atmosphere and the service and food was just as we had hoped. We ordered 4 different rolls and shared them all because they were all fantastic!

Palatable but don't expect anything special. Too much rice and not a lot of fish in the rolls. However, the "Rawkin" tacos were tasty.

Really good island twist on sushi. A little over priced for some basic roles but still pretty good overall. Service was really solid.

Eh... good for island sushi. Didn't feel the ingredients were local. Chef was good, service is stretched thin.

Pelicans Beach Bar is dangerously good at making cocktails go in and having the fun come out of you! $5 mix drinks, $4 beers, $8 crafted frozen all day for happy hour! This little 7 seat bar at the Ritz Carlton Resort is the farthest down the beach next to the serenity pool. Shhhhhhhhh......be quiet.....yea right when happy hour is all day and your bartenders are mad cool! Not sure of why they put this next to the "library" section of the resort but this bar just opened up in November. Our bartender Alex and her side kick Ryan were awesome compliments to the beachy view of St. John and our delicious cocktails. My favorites were the Lilikoi Mango Mojito and Caribbean Fiesta (not on menu but Alex knows of how to make them). For those Patron lovers like my hubby, try the Sandy Day, he loved it! Sushi is Japanese for yummylicious! Pelicans Beach Bar expands (seating wise) during the evening to a few 4 tops for an all you can eat sushi pig out session every Wednesday from 5p-8p for $45! Thursday's is taco day from 5p-8p with unlimited rice, beans, chips and salsa! You've already tortured yourself in dieting to get into bikini ready shape, let this sushi and taco fun be your free pass to choose your love of food, over not wanting to get fat! If staying at the Ritz these two nights should be checked out. If you don't want to chillax under the stars while listening to music next to tiki torches, you can box up your grub and take it back to your room. Tacos and sushi not your thing? You can order from Coconut Cove, another restaurant on the resort and they'll deliver your food to you at this bar. If not staying at the Ritz, great bay beach, which Pelicans Beach Bar sits on is actually a public beach. There is hidden free public beach parking past the main hotel lobby port cochere and down a steep road. Pictures attached show the way. My only complaint is that the bathroom locations seem like the distance needed to get to St. John. But that's the laziness (aka selective participation) in me that gets stronger with each cocktail! Cheers!
