In the end, I had to cancel the installation order and return to the Big Screen Store. I explained my plight and my TV was installed within five days. The two young man who came to install it, Taz and Ray, were polite, efficient, on time, cleaned up after themselves and walked me through the functions of the television. I had to pay someone else to finish the job and they had to take over control of the switch that he installed to get things working. Olen also left me without basic instructions like the password to my router. In addition the installer who took over for the job questioned the work that was done and said some of the wiring and installation choices were not good. I don't know if Olen is still working, or if something happened, because he simply stopped communicating. Regardless, he walked out without completing the job and no explanation.

Carlos is very nice and extremely messy. He doesn't clean up after himself. The worst thing, however, is that I have a small 8 lb dog who eats things off the floor regularly - he could have been severely injured or killed because Carlos left all those bits of speaker wire on the floor. I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.
