I'm a little embarrassed to write this, but hopefully what I went through will help others. I woke up one night and needed to use the facilities. As I was standing in front of the toilet doing my business, a rat swam up out of the drain. I had heard of this kind of thing happening, but I thought it was an urban legend. Nope. It can really happen. After chasing him down the drain with the toilet bowl brush, and shoving the brush into the drain to keep him away, I went online to see what could be done. Naturally, I turned to Yelp for an exterminator. I learned a few things; first, the rat did not come from the sewer, it came from the roof and down the sewer vent. That is now covered. Second, the rats were attracted to my bird feeder, which is now gone (sadly). Edgar came out and reviewed the entire house with me, showing me where they were getting in and laying out a plan of action that would eradicate them. I am beyond happy with the work he did. It's only been a little over a week and I can already see a huge difference. I did find out that they had made it into the attic, but they are being exterminated as I type this. Edgar is amazing. I am posting because I just got off the phone with Edward. I feel like these days you rarely experience someone offering advice and recommending that they NOT come out to charge you. I had a strange smell in the attic, and Edward explained cheerfully that it could very easily be a dead rat fallen into a wall, and that the cost to break open areas to find it would be way more expensive than simply buying mothballs and waiting for the smell to dissipate in a few weeks. I got a quote from a different company. They gave a price with no description of what would be done and what was the cause. I then called Rat-Experts Inc and spoke with Edgar. They came out identified the issue and provided me with options to correct the issue. Everything with pictures and explanations. They came as they said they would, did everything and kept me in the loop so I knew what they were doing, and what the plan was. I noticed after they completed the wildlife exclusion as they called it. My allergies were almost all gone. I had them do the attic restoration. This is where they clean and add more insulation as necessary. They gave a 1 year guarantee. The other company was only 3 months. These guys are great! I really cannot recommend them enough. I recently purchased a house and have spent the last few months fixing up all the things the previous owners let fall by the wayside. I had signs of a rat in my house and after trapping him and hoping it was over, I was disappointed to hear what sounded like a huge creature in my cupboards. That's when I decided enough was enough and I called Rat Experts. They came out the same day, did a thorough review/walkthrough of my home, and didn't try to oversell me. They showed me evidence that what I had heard was a raccoon in my crawl space. They told me all the areas I needed to seal up (essentially gaps in the crawl space where creatures were getting through). And set traps for the raccoons. They also found and patched up a small hole in my kitchen that appeared the be the rodent entrance. Luckily, my handyman was able to come out and seal up my crawl space two days later.
