This place deserves 12 stars. We had the dinner for two which came with way more food than we paid for and every bite was perfect and delicious. They cater the spice level to fit your palette and the desserts, despite that we were already so full, were absolutely light and refreshing. Sweet customer service and we were tended to so well. It was a lovely last evening in saint Louis and would not have spent it anywhere else. Absolutely if you get the chance to go, stop by here. Dont forget to try their mango lassi! Attempted to place a takeout order from Rasoi on 10/18/21. I placed my order through Grubhub and I received an email verifying that Rasoi had accepted my order and to pick up in 45 min-1 hour. I went to the restaurant at my pick up time to discover the lights off and the door locked. I called the restaurant and no one answered nor were there any signs on the door indicating a last minute closure, etc. According to Rasoi's website, Google, Yelp and the hours posted at the restaurant they should've been open. Needless to say this was very disappointing and completely avoidable if the owners would have updated Grubhub appropriately. Hopefully they work on this in the future. read more

I dined her a few weeks ago with my best friend who was in the mood for Indian food. I'm rarely *not* in the mood for Indian, so I gladly obliged. We stopped in around 7pm on a Friday and there wasn't a wait... we even ended up with a super comfy booth. The service we received was five stars all the way, and our server was friendly, able to make suggestions, and even subbed out my naan with garlic naan (because why not?) He really did a great job. We had cocktails to start but they were pretty sweet... I suggest something off the wine list instead. The vegetable samosas were a perfect appetizer, and I loved the various sauces you get to try with them. The vegetarian sampler was fun because we got to try so many things, and it was so, so good. The chicken tikka masala was just okay, and I wasn't a big fan of the sauce (it tasted like a mouthful of straight tomato sauce.) Overall we had a great dinner here... I've had Indian food in St. Louis I liked much more than at Rasoi, but the nice, relaxing atmosphere was definitely enjoyable for a Friday night. read more

Fuck yes this place is FANtastic. I'd been craving Indian food like no other - my college town had been rife with mouthwatering Indian restaurants, and I'd been feeling the severe lack of paneer in my life. Truthfully, the Yelp atmosphere description that Rasoi is "intimate" turned me off a little - I'm looking to shove as much curry, rice, and naan in my face and you're telling me I gotta bring a date? Thankfully, the bombtastic Food Pedaler service - for serious, use them liberally; they're fast, unceasingly cheerful, and brightly dressed in skintight cycling suits - listed Rasoi as places they deliver from. So I scrolled through this page to look up recommendations - and man, Yelpers are awesome, you all never let me down - and proceeded to order a batch of food that was so tasty and so satisfying that I made obscene noises while I ate. I ordered the paneer tikka masala, makhani dal, methi malai mattar, and an order of garlic naan. HOLY JEEBUS. My new favorite thing is the methi malai mattar, a thick, creamy spinach dish that takes all the best parts of saag paneer and serves it up in an overflowing tureen of slightly spicy, beautifully green taste explosion. The tikka masala was absolutely terrific - creamy, spicy, tomatoey, and with an awesome smattering of perfect paneer. The dal was more soupey than I'd been expecting, but hey, its spiced lentils, and with the right amount of rice, I was good to go. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE GARLIC NAAN. Holy crap on a cracker, is this the stuff dreams are made of. Pillowy and garlicky - man, I'd do anything for a lifetime supply of that particular naan. Rasoi means kitchen in hindi. I think this name describes the restaurant well because walking in feels like stepping into my mother's kitchen. And, the food is (almost) as good as my mother makes. Just an FYI, this is a rewrite (after my second visit) of a previous review. I came for dinner the first time, but this time I decided to try the buffet. The dishes they served were very traditional, with the exception of one beef stew. Besides the raita being a little sweet for my liking, the rest of the food I tried was delicious. My favorite dish was the chicken tikka masala. Their take on this Indian classic was a little different from what I expected. Their version has a little less cream than what I am used to. But I think I like it better this way; it is far more flavorful. As for spice, I did not find anything overpowering. Several of the dishes had a little bit of heat, but they were well balanced. It had been well over 10 years since we ate at Rasoi when it was located in Clayton. We recently dined at Rasoi in the CWE location, with friends and enjoyed it very much. Aside from some mild confusion regarding the reservation, it was a great experience and we will return. Service was friendly and very good with the right amount of attention. We passed on the appetizers for fear of eating too much. Four of us ordered five dishes to share around. We had malai kabab (marinated chicken cubes) that are served without a sauce. They were tender and juicy and delicious. One caution, they are a little pricey for the amount you get. Aloo gobi was typical, but good. We all really enjoyed the methi malai mattar, which is creamy pureed spinach with peas and fenugreek leaf. Excellent. The lamb rogan josh was rich, a little sweet and a little spicy. Very good. The cubed lamb in it was tender and juicy. I always have to have dal makhani which was also simple and quite good. We also ate naan; some plain and some garlic. Both were perfect. Everything was enjoyed with plain rice, that was well cooked. I am really looking forward to returning. They have a large menu with a nice array of vegetarian dishes. I'm not vegetarian, but love the Indian vegetarian dishes. This place is best enjoyed with at least four people so you can try an array of things. We found the spicing to be very good, not heavy handed, although I would like more hot chile (mirch). Main dishes are served in nice white porcelain bowls, rather than the typical small, flat stainless steel platters. Serving sizes for the sauced dishes are good. Okay, so technically, this is the restaurant formerly known as India's Rasoi that lived around the corner on Laclede. They didn't just move, they recreated. The new digs are amazing. Modern & colorful, the decor is completely inviting. The drab has been sucked out and replaced with beautiful color tapestries and tiles. The service is still a little shaky, but that's only because they're so busy. There are some grumpy old people there, but the new guys like Prakash & Babu are great. The white dude that's the host is a little creepy, but whatever, we're cool as long as he doesn't get in the way of the buffet. The food is amazing. I hit the lunch buffet at least once a week, sometimes more - it's just that good. The place is so busy, the food doesn't have time to sit. Everything is always fresh and flavorful. I'm bound to attract a fight from the NYC foodies, but Rasoi's food rivals anything you'd find in Jackson Heights. Especially the over-hyped Jackson Diner. Tried and true! It's been a while since my last review of India Rasoi. Typically, I go to the buffet, which is honestly the best route. However, my friend's birthday was this week, and she wanted to have Rasoi for the first time in years. Who was I to say no? In other words, if you're curious about the buffet, look at my first review. We got a late start on Monday. In fact, I called ahead to make sure that we wouldn't close down the place. Apparently, they are open until ten during the week, so we had plenty of time for some dinner. Sometimes it helps to have fresh perspective on a staple. My friend ordered vegetable Samosa, spiced stuff pastries. I really enjoyed their spicy, potato-y goodness! She ordered Vegetable Chettinad, "mixed vegetables cooked in a coconut sauce tempered with herbs and spices," and I went with my normal Chicken Tikka Masala and plain naan. Rasoi is definitely not cheap at dinnertime. Between the appetizer, two dishes, and naan, the meal ran about $42. However, a price well-paid for some of the best Indian food in town! Also, they don't skimp on the portions and rice, so there was plenty to take home for lunch the next day. The service was fantastic. I know the waiter from lunch time buffets, and he's always good to me. He was also very patient as we did end up closing the place down. In the end, I still prefer the buffet, mostly because it's much cheaper and the options are plentiful. So this has been my go to place for delivery in St Louis downtown area as this is the only place that delivers during dinner hours that I feel has good food. I have been here couple of times and ordered food many many times. The food when your order for delivery or A la carte it's 4/5 but when you go for buffet it's 2/4 so the reason behind 3 stars. I really wanted to give them 3.5 starts if I had option but they are definitely not 4 starts due to the buffet. I'm game for a well-composed Indian buffet pretty much anytime, and opposed to, say, your average Chinese buffet ordeal, every Indian restaurant has their own quirks, certain dishes offer unique twists, spice profiles go various directions, and my naan snobbery always rears its ugly nostrils. Ain't no lie, if the naan is sub-par, it's likely that'll impact the overall tummy-stuffing ritual. Thankfully, Rasoi served up a solid flatbread, which allowed me to really explore every dish. My takeaway on everything else: a Midwestern vegetarian delight. Don't get me wrong, I savored some of the meats, but one after another, the big winners were meatless. Give 'em all a shot. I wish I can give it 3.5 stars for the pleasant experience, but I can't. :[ Decor: I went for dinner on Thursday night and it was relatively empty. The place was dim, dark and almost.. well, romantic/date-ish. The colors were red, black and white themed. I went with a mutual friend, and we were seated in one of the big booths along the side of the restaurant (in the middle of the place are tables & chairs). It was very comfortable. This dish on its own is very plain, no sauces on it, but has a cole slaw type of side on it. Without a sauce, this plate would be very dry. Hence, we did what the waiter recommended: get sauces! Oh and it comes with a big bowl of rice, so yay! - Masala sauce: a slight tomato-y tinge but very well flavored. I liked it. - Curry sauce: I didn't like this as much as the masala sauce, but it was very yummy still! My friend and I both got the tandoori chicken entree, but along with the rice and the naan, I was super fullllll and even took some home. SO GOOD PORTIONS! I did find this place a bit pricey. It took ~$30 for this meal for myself only. All in all, I prefer House of India for the food and price (lunch buffet, anyone?) I know Rasoi has a lunch buffet too, so I'll try that and compare the two buffets. But if you want a more romantic, closer atmosphere, and better presentation of the food, come here! read more

I was given a gift card for $75. I placed an order, I came in, and they declined the card. They wouldn't deal with it then and they said I had to come back the next day or call later. All of a sudden the gift card worked. Luckily I had cash with me the night before. Do not buy a gift card from these people. The person who gave it to me said it was a nightmare to get. We went to dinner on a Friday evening, a little early. The interior is quite pleasant and welcoming. The colors transport you out of Saint Louis and into an exotic locale. Many foreign food restaurants have tuned their menu to the local tastes and Rasoi is no exception. They only have sweet (Mango and Strawberry) Lassi on the menu but when I asked the waiter if they had a salty version he was very agreeable to having it made for me! It was a perfect complement to our meal. We decided to try the Rasoi recommendation of the Rasoi Feast - wanting to try a little of several dishes rather than just one. While some might say the meat portions were small, I personally think they were perfectly proportioned. Having eaten at MANY Indian restaurants I can say that the flavors were quite "traditional". Everything was well cooked both tandoor and wet curry. If you like it spicy, please let your waiter know or they will serve it with no spice whatsoever. (They do, however, serve chutneys so that you can spice it up a bit if you like.) The meal also came with dessert - not just one but two different desserts. We could not finish everything but that is always good as it makes a wonderful lunch the following day for someone. ;) They do have a lunch buffet, including on weekends, if you think you want to try a sampling. I kind of regret coming here because I dont live in STL..the food was incredible. And I will very much miss it. I was in a hotel so I ordered to go, very easy to do over the phone. I dont know STL well at all,thankfully this was super easy to get to and park. I believe I talked to the owner, whoever it was was very friendly and attentive. I ordered pakoras, cheese naan, and chicken Tikka Masala. Pakoras were light and flavorful, not greasy at all. Held up well, everything did, on the drive back. They were still cripsy, which can be hard when ordering to go but they were great. Came with 2 yummy dipping sauces as well. The cheese naan was to die for. Plenty of gooey cheese, cooked perfectly, nice and fluffy. Same goes for the rice, fluffy and delicious. I have never had a CTM that was slightly smokey, this was a treat. They use high quality chicken and I was very impressed with how much chicken I got. A lot of places can skimp on it...opposite here. Plenty of huuuuge chunks of white meat covered in their delicous sauce. Fantastic portion sizes of everything for the price, this got me 3 meals. 3 stars for A-OK because it seems like I had a different experience than some of these reviews. The service was fine. The food was just okay, though. We ordered the lobster dosa, fish curry, and vegetable chettinad. The lobster dosa was tasty, but the lobster was impossible to detect and I do not think the coconut sauce/chutney that came on the side was an appropriate temperature/flavor to suit the dish. The fish curry was clearly oversalted--perhaps to obscure a lack of other spices? And the vegetables in the vegetable chettinad reminded me of frozen chopped pea/carrot/corn/green bean mix, because I'm pretty sure that's what it was. Most Indian restaurants have the same fare, so I'm reluctant to return here when the food was less than amazing. read more

I must say that the chefs at India Rasoi are great. This is probably the best Indian restaurant in St. Louis. I liked the food at the lunch buffet even slightly more than a certain downtown Indian restaurant which I consider fantastic. The food on the buffet tastes fresh as if it was made to order. The flavors in the food are the most pronounced I've ever had at an Indian buffet in any city. I've been to a few. The service is just plane rude. The man that sat us the first time sat me this time. Both times I asked for a booth and he was visibly put out. The rest of the time he avoided eye contact even when serving water or delivering the check. The rest of the front of house is meh... All in all you may get better service than I did and if so I think you'd love IR. That said I take a star off gladly for the lack of courtesy. read more
