What a find! My husband loves craft beers and he was not disappointed! Liked that they offered to let us try the selections we made first. We really like the menu as well. The bartender recommended the spicy chicken wrap, it was delicious especially paired with the truffle fries! My mother orders the Kung Pao wings, perfectly cooked and seasoned! I give this place 2 stars solely because of the nice beer selection and friendly/helpful staff. If it were based only on the food, it would easily be 1 star at best. Before I continue, I will say that the poutine was tasty; a lot of other places seem to mess it up somehow, but it was good here. That being said, I also ordered the shrimp w/ risotto, crab cakes, Rappourt burger, and moussaka lasagnette (lasagna). I thought long and hard about it, and I can honestly say that, although pretty to look at, the shrimp w/ risotto is probably the worst dish I have ever eaten at a restaurant, and the first to compel me to leave a review anywhere. The risotto was overcooked and mushy, as were the beans it came with, and the entire dish (shrimp, beans, risotto, sauce) were completely flavorless. Not an ounce of seasoning to be found. The risotto tasted like water (which is almost impressive, considering how risotto is made), except with an unpleasant texture. The only thing that led me to take a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th bite was the hope that that bite would be better than the last. I was repeatedly disappointed. The crab cakes had the problem of simultaneously having too little and too much. Too little in the sense that there was nothing (herbs, seasoning, vegetables, or other things usually mixed into crab cakes) inside besides crab and bread crumbs, and too much in that there seemed to be more breading than actual crab meat. The result was a very doughy patty with little flavor and a sickly texture. The lime aioli it came with was fine, but the problem there was that it came with only two blobs the size of a penny. For $15, it would also have been nice if there were more than two crab cakes, seeing as they were not large portions. The moussaka lasagnette, according to the menu, is supposed to come with lamb, fried eggplant, and goat cheese. What we were served tasted fine, but also included only one of those three. Absolutely zero eggplant or goat cheese was to be found. We kept searching the dish for the missing ingredients, thinking maybe there just weren't large pieces. When brought to a staff member's attention, even though we had accidentally eaten much of the dish, he was very kind and took it off our bill in good faith. Unfortunately, the second best dish we ordered was the burger. It wasn't awful, but it was extremely greasy, and fell apart immediately upon taking the first bites. The bun was very plain, and the only topping that could be tasted was the tomatoes. I do realize that not every restaurant is intended to be a gourmet dining experience, and that some places do some things better than others. I am also a big advocate of being understanding when mistakes happen in the kitchen, as it is often very long and grueling work. However, there is no excuse for food of this low caliber. I would have been disappointed even if it were half-off. It is possible that today was a very off day for the kitchen at Rappourt, but I am confident when I say that I will not consider coming here for anything other than perhaps a few beers and possibly a side of poutine. read more

I've always liked this place, but tonight was different. Food was good except for the cold tough tortilla on the shrimp taco. When I wanted to buy over priced to go bottles, i was hassled about my tab, and basically called a liar. I chose not to buy them. When i asked for my tab i was grated with a very rude response. I love their diverse beer selection. They'll have a good number of quality options for any type of beer that you like. I love sours, and they tend to always have about four options that also happen to be very tasty. Their fries are also on point. The bartenders are always nice, even when it gets super busy in here. I think this place is off to a great start! You order at the bar first, then you find a place to sit at community/picnic-style tables. I ordered a Bloody Orange Honey pale ale which was delicious! They had a fantastic selection of local craft beers, I was truly impressed. We also ordered dinner, a BLT and a fried chicken sandwich. The BLT was insane, made with fried green tomatoes, pickled onions, and a fried egg to top off the deliciousness. It was comforting because BLTs are classic, but the added dimensions of the extra ingredients was perfect. The buttermilk fried chicken was cooked PERFECTLY, and was topped with a chorizo gravy which was so good. I thoroughly enjoyed the food! My only qualms are with the bread, and the breading! Both of the sandwiches had pretty unremarkable bread, I felt it was crumbly and didn't really serve a purpose other than delivering the food. I love a good bread with my sandwiches, so that was disappointing. And while the chicken was AMAZING, the fried goodness surrounding it fell off super easily, leaving a very naked chicken cutlet. Regardless, I'm excited to see this place develop, and I think it's off to a great start! Go and try it out, I know I'll be back. read more

Yay! A new place in northeast Ann Arbor! During their soft opening their beer menu is solid--currently loaded with tried and true good beer to please any palate (except the Bud Light lovers of the world), and I look forward to it becoming more and more expansive as time goes on. The food is also good. The truffle fries were crispy (and for that reason I imagine they'd be awesome in a poutine), and the beet and kale salad was tasty (and as someone who is OCD about salad greens, they were fresh and crisp), the mahi mahi was solid, but the enchilada... holy cow that was the best. The service is great--you can tell this is a labor of love, and they're doing their best to please. I'll miss the Wine Seller, but Rappourt will make those pangs go away fast. read more

They're still open and STILL as good as ever. The wings they have here are ridiculous and we get a different flavor every time. The Brussel sprouts are a must. If you can get there while there are still truffle fries they are delicious. The selection of beer is incredible. Those of us on the north side of Ann Arbor are so lucky to have Rappourt open up! We came here their first week open, and ordered Rappourt burgers and 2 of the different beers on tap. Seating is at the bar or at a long table, similar to a beer garden. The burgers were absolutely delicious, and our beers were both excellent. They have a huge range of beers on tap, and the bar tenders will give a sample if you want to try something to help you make a selection. Service was great. They also sell a great variety of wines. There is a great wine and beer selection at this much needed pub near North Campus. Unfortunately, the food that is dressed up in hip ingredients falls flat. We had all of the starters as well as wings and tacos. Everything was just ok but definitely not outstanding. My soft taco shells hadn't been heated, the slaw was overdressed in a mayo sauce, and the menu should really indicate that the chicken on the tacos is a fried chicken tender. Bleh. The truffle fries had no hint of truffle oil or parmesan, and everything else was just a fried, tasteless ______ (fill in the blank). Even the brussel sprouts seemed fried and blah. This place is new, so I hope they figure out how to make good food. read more

Yes! Finally, a gastropub with emphasis on the gastro; "Chew" is a third of the name anyway... Gutted doesn't even come close to describing the disappointment I felt as I tasted my first bite of the Mousaka Lasagnette. The dish was completely devoid of seasoning; this was especially upsetting because it was such a cool menu idea! My cohort's burgers looked equally unappetizing, and my fiance's Fried Tomatillo BLT was completely ruined by unfathomably thick, stale ciabatta (though the sandwich's other contents were delicious). The beer selection is fair, and if one is to stick to foods from the deep-fryer, then Rappourt is a completely acceptable option. My hope is that the kitchen catches up to the rest of the establishment, soon; the staff is friendly, service is good and the restaurant seems to be pretty clean. Ann Arbor has better options for food, and better options for drink; to master both would make the place a slam-drunk. read more

I visited Rappourt Brew & Chew with my girlfriend and some friends from work for dinner, and had a mixed experience. I'd been meaning to try Rappourt for a while, since it's really close to where I work and has a good reputation. After we parked at the shopping complex, we quickly walked through what looked like a mini mall and entered Rappourt. The environment in Rappourt is very 'hip,' with a mixture of bench seating, wood paneling, warm lighting and a lengthy bar. The crowd seemed pretty young, and most groups were small (no more than five people each). We ordered immediately, and quickly paid at the bar. I ordered a Centro City Grinder, which cost me $11 and comes with fries. We sat at a table, and patiently waited for our respective orders. After literally 40 minutes, we were finally served in rapid succession; needless to say we were famished and irritated. My Grinder was better than fast-food chain versions, but nothing I would write home about. The fries however, were sublime; they perfectly balanced the potato-flavor with seasoning, and I regretted not ordering fries exclusively. Overall, I'd recommend giving Rappourt a try for the fries alone, but make sure you aren't time-pressed during your visit. read more

Note: This review is about the space only. I did not eat here. I just wanted to say that my date and I walked in here on a Saturday evening, hoping for an intimate date-night dinner, but that is impossible here. All of the seating is either at the bar or at tables that seat at least eight people(?). There are no two-tops or four-tops. Perhaps if you're the kind of extrovert who doesn't mind being seated with a bunch of strangers, this would work out. I am not that person. If you're looking for a place with some intimacy, I cannot emphasize this enough: THIS IS NOT THAT PLACE. We took a look around, were instantly put off by the seating situation, and walked right back out. If the food's good, I'll never know, because this place was not built for people like me. If I ever hear that they've changed up their seating so it's possible to get a table for two, maybe I'll give it another try, but not until then. read more

I wouldn't entirely classify this place as a bar. While it serves drinks and has "bar foods" it's certainly more than just a communal place to gather and drink. The vibe is very welcoming and relaxed. The tables have benches as well as stand alone chairs and the bar top has ample seats as well. There are multiple TVs playing sports with volumes on mute as to not interfere with your own concertations. And ample beer selection and and excellent sangria. The best part, there was happy hour. Yes happy hour on a Sunday. I would certainly come back and try food. read more

I am the harshest critic ever. Just read my reviews and a 4 star one is rare. This place is full of great beer and has a quaint, charming atmosphere. A little rough around the edges as it is new so I won't take away any points here. You order at the counter and are given a number for your table (shared, probably, with strangers). As you wait you can sit back and sip on a delicious brew (Strawberry Short's Cake FTW) and anxiously await that BLT. Now, this BLT is perhaps one of the best I have ever had. With a fried egg, a lemon-something aioli, and crispy bacon, I died and went to heaven. I wanted to devour it in one bite. Also tried the fried chicken sandwich with chorizo country gravy which was just ok but the chicken was cooked perfectly and the skin was extra crispy. The fries are a must here. Beer-battered with no need for any condiment, these are fries. These are what fries are meant to be. If you want beer, a great BLT, and the chance to listen in on strangers' conversations right next to you, this is a good place. Thanks, old wine store! I'll be back! read more

I come here every few weeks with friends and it never disappoints. This is a modern looking bar, complete with a loft appearance with visible beams and mixed wood/metal tables. The beer selection is very extensive and rotates pretty frequently. The garlic fries are amazing. Seating is generally not an issue and the waitstaff are friendly. Also, it's the only bar that I know of in the north part of town, which is worth major bonus points. read more

The menu offers a variety of fresh and new inspiring ideas when it comes to food. I had the chicken ciabatta and added honey Dijon mustard to it. It was excellent, I also tried the poutine fries and the risotto balls. All were wonderful. The decor and atmosphere were clearly planned out and reflected a modern theme. This is a restaurant serves beer, I by no means like beer but they had a large selection of cider and wines available as well. Service was friendly and very attentive. Ok, frankly I'm surprised that nowhere here do I see mentioned what seems to be an obvious, huge flaming YES for this place: The beer list is rivaled by only ONE other historic bar in Ann Arbor, and that other bar is Ashley's. That's kind of huge. As soon as Founders released its Watermelon Sea Salt gose beer, Green Zebra? This place had it. They have a delightful method of rotating beers from certain breweries, which can keep things interesting. The Right Brain CEO stout, the most caffeinated espresso stout I have ever tasted (seriously, in lieu of straight coffee, I will drink it and the effect is the same except you also become slightly drunk/it has an analgesic effect) was here. It was rotated out for a different coffee stout the next day but the bartender recommended this delicious, frothy, melt-against-your-mouth ale that tastes like peanut butter, has a chocolate mouth-feel (did I say that the right way, idk, it's incredible) and is 10% ABV and comes in a 10 oz tulip glass per regulations due to its high ABV. I'd asked about the CEO stout assuming they probably wouldn't have it, because I've never been to a bar with CEO stout, and I could not believe they had it until there it was. They have a nice cocktail list and wine selection. Anyway, I've also had the beet salad, which I thought to be thoughtfully and adequately prepared. Got to love beets, kale, and vinaigrette. What I really wanted to say here, though, is that it's about time the North Side of Ann Arbor had a place like this. We haven't even had a neighborhood bar for well over two decades (about the extent of my lifespan, because yes I grew up here), unless you count Guy Hollerin's but my friends, that is inside of a hotel and is a solid drive down Plymouth from where people actually live so that doesn't count. We went in for lunch. The burger was good. The fries were plentiful and tasty. They had a large variety of beer at a reasonable price. I didn't like the ambiance. The bare light bulbs gave off an awful glare and made me want to hurry up my meal and leave. The other disappointing part of the experience was the all the hard surfaces which made the noise level uncomfortably high. To top it off, the tables were long and narrow with bench seating. Not pleasant for most people who want to talk to people across from them and not down at the end of a long table. There is no table service. The food came out at different times for members of our party. Maybe with time things will improve. read more
